Me and my mum stayed here for a week whilst visiting family who live in Stowmarket and we would recommend this hotel.

We paid just over £260 for a twin room for whole week, which we felt was very good value for money at only £37 per night. The location is very good as it is a quiet area of the town but only a few minutes drive to the local Tesco and 5 minutes drive to the train station or high street. There are a number of restaurants/pubs, takeaways, supermarkets as well as high street and charity shops only a short drive away. For entertainment, the Museum of East Anglia Life and a small cinema are local. A car is certainly recommended as public transport links are poor though trains do go fairly regularly to Ipswich, Norwich, Cambridge, Peterborough and London and stations on those lines. There are many lovely places to visit within an hours drive which are not on a train or bus route.

Regarding the hotel, check in was reasonably quick and the staff were very hospitable and couldn't do enough for you.

The bedroom, whilst slightly dated, was very clean and tidy with a modern TV, and tea/coffee making facilities as well as free wifi. Unfortunately, due to covid-19, we did not have a daily cleaner but as we were there a week, they did come in mid-week to clean and replace the towels, and bed sheets etc. We were told that if we needed anything such as more coffee or replacement towels, we only had to ask and even though staff numbers were limited, we were always able to find someone either at reception or in the bar.

Foodwise, the hotel restaurant was closed due to covid, but there is a separate lounge bar which is open to the public as well as guests. The food here was very good and the staff great though it is a bit expensive for what is essentially pub food. We did have a very enjoyable evening here with family though. We didn't try the breakfast as we did feel £6 for a croissant and drink in a box was a bit steep, but the local pub, the Willow Tree, does some very nice, cheap breakfasts.

Overall, we were very satisfied with our stay and will stay here again when next in Stowmarket.

I would firstly like to comment on the hotel building and rooms, I would not usually write a review like this but feel I want to be really honest. We got an amazing deal and required two nights stay. We were allocated room 12, we made it up all of the stairs, which was not the easiest, my husband has not been well so this was extremely tricky. The room was tired and we found not overly attractive, the thought of having to climb all of the stairs again was not a pleasant thought and we honestly were dreading staying in a room like that.

I decided to pop to Reception just to ask if there was any chance of changing rooms, oh my goodness I could not have asked for a more helpful person on the desk who completely understood the issues I had and if I gave her half an hour she would try to sort it out for me. Ten minutes later she was at room 12’s door offering to help with the luggage to a ground floor room that she hoped would be more suitable.

Room 25 was much more suitable for our needs and we were very grateful. I would however say that this room was on the tired side but was super clean with lovely fluffy towels. I later found out that the hotel are in the process of building, which I presume was halted because of covid. The new plans look amazing and will provide up-to-date accommodation. The oldest part of the building is extremely old and you can tell that by the extremely odd climb to the top rooms, there is not a lift available so I would suggest if you are unable to climb loads of stairs then a ground floor room would be essential.

I would now like to comment on the staff at the hotel, this was the shining glory of our stay. We met the amazing Vikki, who never seems to sleep but is always happy and cheerful, every time we came across her she genuinely seemed happy to see us and was interested in what we had been up to that day and made useful suggestions for the area. We only stayed two nights but on the second breakfast of our stay she remembered how my husband liked his eggs, I almost wished we had stayed another night so she could remember how I liked mine too!

Vikki seems to be everywhere, she works in the restaurant for breakfast, in the bar in the evening and on reception, we were not sure of her job title but she is a real asset to the hotel and we hope that the Best Western hotel group recognise this.

The rest of the staff were also amazing, Chef made some lovely food and also helped in the bar and reception was also extremely happy and cheerful. The ladies that turned the rooms around for the next guest were so friendly and again nothing was too much trouble.

Best Western really have got a great team working in this hotel, whilst we would not stay again, until the new rooms are built, we cannot fault the dedication, hard work and customer service from every member of staff that we encountered. Please can you pass them our thanks for looking after us so well.

Me and my friend stayed here this weekend and the room was nice except it smelt like someone had pissed on the floor, the shower didn’t work and the hot tap was loose!
The woman on reception on arrival was very unhelpful, she was sat on her phone the whole time, she gave me my room key and didn’t know where my room was but I was able to find it myself. The woman who was in the next morning when we had breakfast was very nice and friendly, as was the man on reception on Saturday and Sunday morning.
At 2am Sunday morning the fire alarm went off, we all went outside but there was no staff onsite so we wasn’t sure if we was able to go back in when the fire alarm stopped, it was all very unorganised!
It was cheap enough to stay there so we probably would stay there again in the future

We were made most welcome Denis the new .mascot welcomed our two dogs. had an easy check in our room was on the ground floor spotless very quiet as it was so hot we only had a bar snack one evening this was well presented would recommend the ice creams. Breakfast is delivered to your room in a bag but as they do not have a breakfast chef on this time they did their best.
There is a big car park and loved the owl in the tree at the entrance.
if you do not want the Ritz would recommend this hotel

We've just returned from a 2 night stay at Cedars and had a marvellous time. We tend to have a weekend away in hotels every month or so and normally pay 3 or 4 times as much so were a little worried, especially after reading some of the reviews!
Any worries proved to be unfounded; we stayed in one of the superior rooms [Number 8] and it was more than adequate. We loved the beautiful beams and olde worlde feel of our room and it was tucked away so quite quiet. The only noise we heard was from the people above, mainly squeaky floorboards, which just goes with the character of the hotel.
The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean, which is very reassuring in these uncertain times. Plenty of toiletries, tea, coffee and biscuits and if you needed anything the staff were more than happy to supply it.
The staff were fantastic too, especially Tina and the lady on duty Saturday evening. Nothing is too much trouble and we would not hesitate to stay again.

We booked a 2 night stay with my sister and her husband. The reception and main corridor had a filthy stained carpet and the area had an unpleasant smell of cooking and damp.
The first night we were in room 18. Although the room was clean and well equipped, the 1960s coral pink bathroom suite caused a deal of hilarity. As our stay progressed things went from amusing to aweful. There was one central bedroom light with a dim bulb hardly bright enough to read by. No bedside lights. The bathroom had a central light with an even dimmer bulb. The shaving light above the washbasin had no bulb at all.
The smaller bedroom window had a blind which was broken.
The bed was ancient.
Attempting a shower in the morning I spent 5 minutes trying to adjust the temperature. It was either cold or scolding hot and I eventually gave up. I think this shower is frankly dangerous and the thought of a child or anyone with mobility issues trying to use is quite horrific. There was only luke warm water from the wash basin hot tap.
We asked to move room and the second night we were in room 17 which was very much better. Bright and cheerful and almost everything worked apart from a broken toilet seat and an I'll fitting wash basin plug. We used a hand towel in the bath as there was no nonslip shower mat. Another prehistoric bed.
Those of our group who had a cooked breakfast enjoyed it but the cold buffet was sparse and unappetising.
When checking out I asked for a discount on the basis that on our first night the ensuite was unusable. The receptionist told me that he was only authorised to offer 10 percent and promised that the manager would phone me by the end of the day. I am still waiting.
The hotel is due for major refurbishment. It can't happen soon enough and until then, this is one to avoid. I am really surprised that it is allowed to operate under the Best Western brand. It is nowhere near the standard one would normally expect of a Best Western hotel.

We stayed here, whilst visiting my brother and his family. Our mini break was perfect. Everywhere was spotless, our room was light and airy with everything you need. The staff were very friendly helpful and accommodating, we will definitely be staying here again on our return visit. We highly recommend this little gem, what a find.

Stayed here one night last week and regrettably it was not a good experience. I stay at many different hotels during the year while working I'm a manual worker so do not require the best for my needs but I do expect clean well maintained rooms with bed breakfast evening meal and bar so this is my search criteria when searching and I generally look for prices up to £100 per night.
The Best Western Cedars Stowmarket Suffolk met these requirements as shown by their website however fell well short apon arrival.
On arrival I was told the main door will be locked at 10:30 as no-one will be in duty after this time but was given a door code
The room was very grim with faded carpet and the bathroom needed some repairs
After a shower I went to the reception to ask the direction to the bar and restaurant only to be told the manager has closed the bar indefinitely and there are no evening meals.
In the morning at 7am still no one on reception so walked around looking for breakfast room the coffee supplied was bad from a flask which seemed it had been made the previous day some of my food was under cooked.

I reported these things in a Best Western review the reply was sorry for this sorry for that we have decided just to do bed and breakfast sorry you were not informed beforehand no offer of partial refund on the £85 paid which made this a very expensive b&b of that quality and service

Two days before our stay we were contacted to say breakfast and dinner no longer available (the state of things when we arrived suggests they don't have staff). When we arrived we drove in to the carpark, actually thought we'd got the wrong place as nothing like the lovely online photos, then thought it had been closed down and abandoned. The carpark and walkways were unkempt and in need of weeding. We passed the function room entrance, the window and door was dirty with chairs piled high on the inside of the door. The reception entrance was weedy, dirty and looked very uninviting. The dated desk was sticky and not welcoming. We were directed to our room through a maze of stairs, doors and corridors. The smell in the building was horrible, stale smoke and musty. The room was awful. The bed was sprung coil, no padding, just metalwork. Needed slinging out as not fit to sleep in. The ceiling over the bed was mouldy with a big crack, and a small hole and looked bowed. I would have been scared to sleep under it in case it came down onto us. The window had secondary glazing I think, I didn't want to get too close to the filthy window and frame. The toilet hadn't been cleaned since last used and was smeared in poo. We returned to reception and cancelled our booking. We were offered a booking in another Best Western hotel but declined. Instead we stayed in the local Travelodge which has been freshly carpeted, painted and all new bedlinens and curtains. It was also much cheaper than The Cedars and the staff were wonderful. We now hear Cedars is waiting a refurb. I think it needs a complete overhaul inside and outside and suggest BW close it down and start work immediately. It's very unfair to expect people to spend good money based on online photos, then arrive to this! I note some good reviews. I can't imagine how, as from driving into the carpark the hotel looks terrible and our experience didn't improve one bit.

Stayed here for 2 nights. It did what it needed to do with little choice in the area.

Visiting family after lockdown for a few days and on arrival was greeted with a warm welcome. The staff were all very pleasant and welcoming.

The room as is the hotel is an old hotel needing a lot of TLC as it’s extremely run down. We had the family room as we have 2 children which had double, single and bunk beds which was spacious as the bunks were in a small interconnecting room. The bed itself was extremely uncomfortable with springs pinging every movement and you would lie in bed and roll to the middle. Not sure if it’s as the mattress has a dip in it or the floor is on a slant or a combination of both. Felt like being on a ship when getting up out of bed due to the floor being on such an uneven level.
The room was clean as it could be but is in dire need of modernising or even some paint here and there to make it more appealing

Some of this is due the age of building I understand and a lot is quite honestly the hotel need updated.

We were unable to have a bath as the water for some reason wasn’t working in the bath and this was reported twice to reception but not resolved before we left which was disappointing as it’s probably juts a stop cock needing turned. The shower was a dribble at best.

It gave us the space we needed when visiting family but there is a lack of choice in the Immediate area unless you take 2 rooms.
