My husband, 9 year old son and I recently enjoyed the most wonderful stay at Waiorau Homestead. We initially booked for a few nights and decided to extend due to it’s perfect location and the hosts, Anne and Blyth. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they certainly went out of their way to accommodate our needs on more than one occasion. We stayed in both the self-contained Studio and guest rooms inside the house, which were spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated. We particularly enjoyed sitting by the fireplace with a lovely glass of Cardrona Pinot Noir in the living room and around the fire pit outside, toasting marshmallows. The Homestead is situated quite literally at the bottom of Cardrona, seconds from the road up the mountain for skiing. There is a gorgeous pub and general store two minutes drive up the road and lots of trails. We highly recommend it and feel it suitable for all travellers. We will definitely be returning!

We loved our stay in Wanaka, so much so that we extended our one night stay to 2 nights. Wanaka is a lovely town with breathtaking hikes and delicious food places, enhanced by our idyllic location staying at Waiorau Homestead on the outskirts of the town. Blyth’s vast experience in the hospitality industry is evident in the sumptuous meals we enjoyed in their beautifully decorated, comfortable home.
He is also a wealth of knowledge about the areas in which he worked and lived.

We were able to enjoy a glass of wine on their patio and in their beautiful, extensive garden after our busy days activities.
Don’t miss an opportunity to have a Dinner cooked by Blyth which was further enhanced by Ann’s attentiveness throughout the meal and the beautifully set dining table.

We stayed for 2 nights in February with friends and absolutely loved it. The location is just as other reviewers have described - very peaceful with lovely views all around, and especially from the terrace. The rooms are very comfortable and Ann and Blyth made us feel most welcome in their beautiful home. They looked after us in an attentive but understated way. Blyth's cooking was fabulous - we had dinners on both nights as we didn't want to drive into Wanaka - and were very glad that we did. A great area for walking, which was much needed to work off at least some of the food and wine consumed. Enjoyed meeting other guests too.

Would highly recommend.

The property is beautiful, and the home is well appointed. The host is a chef, and breakfast was extensive. Our bathroom, although across the hall, was private, spacious, stocked with plenty of towels, and included both a large shower plus a Jacuzzi bathtub. Additionally, outside was a hot tub for the guests to use, and in the appropriate weather, the pool would be available. The proprietor thought of so many details to make stay more comfortable such as water and chocolate in our rooms, and in the common area coffee and tea and cookies available 24/7 in addition to a nice bottle of red wine for the guests to partake. It was by far the nicest place we stayed touring the South Island of New Zealand and the nicest bed and breakfast I have been in any of my travels.

Upon reflecting our 3-week tour of beautiful New Zealand, Waiorau was our absolute favorite. It is in a peaceful location, is beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. Ann and Blyth are the perfect hosts and offered us such a warm welcome to their fabulous home. After a long day of driving, sitting outside with a chilled glass of wine overlooking their acres of property, hearing the sheep bleating in the distance, was just heaven. After reading other reviews, we had requested dinner cooked by Blyth on our first night. Do not miss out on this opportunity! Blyth is a talented chef and after eating out every night at some fine restaurants during our vacation, we both feel that the meal at Waiorau was our favorite and most memorable. The spread at the breakfast table each morning was amazing and in addition Blyth offered a cooked breakfast. Ann went out of her way to be helpful in our daily planning and exudes warmth and friendliness - the perfect combination of host and hostess. You are number one in our opinion!

Ann and Blyth were such gracious hosts and their home is beautiful and relaxing. It's a ways out of Wanaka, but i think that's one of it's advantages. It's maybe 15-20 minutes if you want to drive into town, and by being out in the valley you get to experience peacefulness. We were lucky enough that our one night there was on a clear night and we were able to get out and see the Milky Way, something we don't get that many chances to do. Blyth's dinner was beautifully prepared, and he went out of his way to make sure that we had meals that we enjoyed. Breakfast was awesome and the local honey he served was scrumptious. We also enjoyed our interactions with the other guests.

An attractive home set on lovely acreage which manages to incorporate a forest entry, a stream, an orchard, extensive lawns and magnificent deciduous trees.
We were blessed with blue sky and striking autumn leaves for a picture-postcard scene during our brief stay.
Our room (Kahurangi Room) was very nice with mountain view and seperate access available via a sunny patio.
The lounge-room with it’s glowing fire was a special treat.
Blyth was a genial host (wife Anne was away) and the breakfast spread was top-notch
Highly recommended.

A perfect place to relax in this wonderful homestead. The house is beautiful, the guest lounge with its log fire and superb views, a haven to enjoy a coffee or glass of wine.
Ann and Blyth are wonderful attentive hosts. Breakfasts are delicious and dinner cooked by Blyth is very special - a top class chef.
We loved our 3 night stay in the Cardrona Valley and hope to return some day.

The most gorgeous, relaxing stay was had at this property. The hosts, Anne and Blyth, could not be more accommodating. Breakfast was excellent and I highly recommend having dinner here - one of the best meals we had in Wanaka and Queenstown (thank you Blyth!). The homestead is tastefully decorated and kept impeccably clean. It feels like you're staying in your own house in the middle of wine country with a bit of snowboarding thrown in for good measure.

I'm a travel agent and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property to clients. It would be perfect to book the whole house for a group of friends or large family. Excellent value for money and conveniently located at the base of Cardrona.

Thank you Ann and Blyth.

My wife and I and another couple spent three weeks on the South Island and spent three nights here - we loved it! It is located south of Wanaka with beautiful views of the Cardrona valley.
One day we hiked on the Meg Hut Pack Track which provided beautiful views of the valley and surrounding hills. We ventured into Wanaka one day and took a guided boat trip to Ruby Island. One evening we had dinner at the local Cardrona Restaurant.
Ann and Blythe are great hosts. We thoroughly enjoyed a meal prepared by Blythe - it set the standard for all meals on our trip. We also enjoyed our chats with them about New Zealand and current events.
We highly recommend Waiorau Homestead and hope to return some day.
