The Z Hotel Zanzibar is a beachfront haven that garners praise for its sophisticated atmosphere and stunning views. While guests appreciate the variety of amenities, including diverse dining options and a well-maintained pool, some find the rooms to be on the smaller side and not quite worth the price tag. The hotel's staff is often lauded for their friendliness, though there are occasional reports of slow service. While cleanliness is a standout feature, noise levels can sometimes interrupt the peace and tranquility expected by visitors.

I stayed at the Z Hotel for during this past holiday season and of the four hotels I stayed at in Tanzania my experience at the Z was the best bar none! We checked in relatively late on December 23rd but none the lest the manager immediately came out to greet us. We had planned to spend a few days in the Serengeti and although we had a hotel we didn't plan for a driver (something that is absolutely needed in the Serengeti). Keith, the manager, immediately took it upon himself to make sure we had a driver to pick us up from the air strip and take us around the park during our stay. That level of customer service is something we all need when traveling to a foreign ciu try. At the Z hotel, the accommodations were comfortable and perfectly detailed with local decor down to the shampoo, conditioner and body lotion that are all made on the island and are the best I've ever used. The good at both restaurants was amazing, the pool is perfect for the social media influencer looking to spice up his/her page with great pictures and the sunsets on the rooftop bar are what we all dream of. I had no complaints and encourage everyone to stay at the Z during their visit to Zanzibar.

Firstly I picked this up as a late booking and stayed in one of the roof top King Suites, yes a wee splash out but stunning.
Every picture you will see and the genuine reviews of this hotel in my personal view are very accurate and deserved. It’s an amazingly well run hotel with some of the most amazing staff I’ve ever been fortunate enough to meet in my travelling years.
It’s a truly a beautiful setting with well-manicured surroundings that gives you a real tropical themed environment.
The Cocktail bar on the roof top is lovely, bar stewardess (Funny) is the essence of what the whole place stands for and was a delight to lift you’re day.
The breakfast and other eating areas where gorgeous, but again magnified by the ever professional and helpful staff. A special mention here must go to the Z hotel Ass F&B Manager who im sure has 50 lookalikes in the hotel as he pops up everywhere and is beyond helpful and welcoming.

I believe in leadership in all we do, so the General Manager of this beautiful place is a Mrs Julie Hind, helpful to the tenth degree and goes that extra yard to keep the likes of people like me pleased, contented and comfortable. I will be back, sooner than you will believe. Thankyou team Z Hotel. 😊

Hard to find better location than this in Zanzibar. The beach was amazing and we swam at high and low tide. The rooms were nice and quite spacious. Our room was on the ground floor so the night lights were a bit annoying at night. All the restaurants were very good and we enjoyed daily lobsters with good wine and the rooftop cocktails. I also had massage and it was quite good. There was a well equipped gym which was totally empty! This comments is not about the hotel but a warning to people not to use snorkelling outlet located on the left of the swimming pool near the entrance to shopping street. They took us to Mnemba island snorkelling (which is another touristic trap) in very rough weather on a small boat - we nearly died! Use hotel services instead

After 8 days of safari we came to relax for 5 nights in Zanzibar. The hotel is located in the north side of the island. Long rough ride from the airport/port, but it is here where the nice beaches are. It is also perfectly positioned to enjoy the sunset every evening, even more so if you make use of the happy hour at the Roof Top bar. Simply amazing views and ambience.

There is a small private beach which can be used only by hotel guests to sunbathe, but as soon as you leave the segregated area, be ready to fend off the locals trying to sell you all sort of things (tours, fruit, drugs etc). This is an issue around all touristic areas in Zanzibar, so the hotel is at no fault here.

Very clean place and friendly staff all around the premises, all ready to help out as best they can. Nevertheless, there were considerable delays with each order of drinks/food throughout the day by the pool.

We dined a couple of times at the hotel restaurant, one of which was given to us complementary as we were celebrating our honeymoon. In all honesty, expected the food quality to be of a higher level but was very good just the same. One thing which could be definitely better is the breakfast options. Would have preferred more juice options or yogurts rather than chicken stew or chili con carne!

Overall, its a great hotel offering you the chance to relax and enjoy long walks on one of the cleanest beaches I have ever been on.

This was planned luxury at the end of a month long arduous overland trip through East Africa. It surpassed my expectations. Well run boutique size hotel on Nungwi beach at the northernmost tip of Zanzibar. Small footprint in a landscaped garden with infinity pool, choice of formal restaurant on a deck over Indian Ocean and casual bistro dining in Cinnamon. Rooftop sunset bar for cocktails literally tops off the offering. We had a deluxe garden suite which magically had a peek view of the sea from its balcony. There are also cottages, sea view & penthouse suites. Was very happy with our room. Extensive buffet breakfast is served on the beautiful deck overlooking the sea. Julie the British General Manager’s influence is evident in the efficient well cared for accommodation & facilities. It was good to be in a British owned & run hotel after our earlier experiences through Kenya, Uganda & Tanzania. All staff were friendly and very helpful during our stay which reflected well on management.

Relaxed 6 days in this nice Hotel after a week of safari and had one room with sea view and one with garden view, we can recommend the sea view. All rooms where light and clean, with balcony.
With half board you can choose between 2 restaurants with meal a la carte for dinner (or even have dinner at the beach) and for breakfast from a rich buffet and warm meals from a breakfast card. We rarely had lunch in between since the meals were quite big.
We can recommend the rooftop bar with a Happy Hour for cocktails around sun set.
The pool area is clean and nice as well as the beach directly in front of the hotel. A part of the beach is private, so no selling beach boys allowed. The beach is very clean, with white sand, water temperature was perfect and you can go for snorkeling directly from the beach (if you want to see bigger fish u need to book a tour). If you leave the private zone you will get offers for various goods and sightseeing tours. However, they are not too pushy, one can politely decline and it’s fine.
The area around the hotel is lively but not too crowed. Close to the hotel are several possibilities for diving (and snorkeling) such as East African diver or Spanish dancers diver, that offer tours to several diving spots that we can recommend, sight was very good for us.
A special highlight for us was the staff, especially in the pool area, the restaurants and the SPA (had treatments and massage): everybody was very cordially and making any efforts for excellent service!
Overall we felt very comfortable and can fully recommend a stay at The Z.

I have just returned home from 10 days at the Z hotel in Nungwi, Zanzibar.
What an all round fantastic holiday i had, all down to the hotel and the team at the Z Hotel.
From check in and seeing my suite for the first time it set the tone for what was one of my best holidays in 5 decades of travel.
The Z suite i booked with the help of the operations team and Helen was one of the best suites i have stayed in anywhere around the world, large nicely decorated and two fantastic terraces with pool and fantastic sea views.
The gardens and pool area where just amazing, well kept gardens and a pool with a view to die for.
The beach is just a few steps away with its fabulous white soft sand and crystal clear green and blue sea.
Im sure anyone reading this review will maybe think they have been somewhere like this before! trust me i have stayed at many top hotels including Sandy Lane in Barbados, this boutique hotel stands out from the crowd.
Also a massive thanks to every single member of staff who did everything possible to make the stay so memorable.
Everyone from the housekeeping staff to the front desk and bar and restaurant staff always on hand and nothing was to much trouble.
To many people to mention, but the names i remember are worth mentioning, Nancy, Rhoda, Will, Yassin and Sam, Omar and Kissimmee, and not to forget the F&B manager Maryam nothing was to much trouble and worked tirelessly with her team to make the stay superb.
While on holiday i met one of the owners of the Hotel who was there Keith, he was always on hand in the day and was happy to take feedback and help improve any areas that could be improved on.
All in all if you are thinking of visiting Zanzibar please try this hotel, i can assure you you are in for a unforgettable holiday.
Thank you Keith and your hole team for making the holiday so special we will be back as soon as we can.

After reading all of the reviews, my husband and I were looking forward to starting our honeymoon out here. There was a mix of good and bad at the hotel which is why I gave it 3 stars. Let’s start with the good. First, the hotel is beautiful and very peaceful. The pool area was clean and inviting and the beach area was well-maintained. The rooms were always spotless and cool when we wanted to hang out in there, and we really appreciated the turndown service at night. Also, we loved the spa. Happy gave me two massages and they are some of the best I’ve had anywhere in the world.

Now for the bad. Every talked about how wonderful the service was and we found it to be the complete opposite. I understand being a bit slower than I am used to or making mistakes from time to time, but this service was some of the worst I’ve experienced anywhere in recent memory. To start with, 2 of the 4 days at breakfast we couldn’t eat breakfast because it took too long to prepare and we had excursions planned or had to the leave the hotel. On the second morning it took over 40 minutes from when we sat down to get our hot breakfast delivered and there was no one else in the restaurant because it was early. The final day, after one hour we had to leave with no breakfast because we had a plane to catch. We asked multiple people multiple times about our breakfast and we watch multiple tables get their breakfast, but they never delivered ours and they didn’t seem to understand what the problem was. Also, after a full day tour, we ordered room service but they delivered our dessert served with ice cream first. There seemed to be no logic to their service. For this kind of hotel, I expected better service especially after most other reviews talk about exceptional service.

We spent a week at the Z-Hotel in Zanzibar and still think back to that time happily and contently.

Our room, the view, the pool and the beach are simply fantastic. We had booked half board and can only confirm that the food is excellent. The breakfast is also really good and the open restaurant area by the sea is a real highlight.

We felt extremely comfortable, the service was always great, all the staff are polite and courteous.

As we were there during Corona time, therefore the hotel was not fully booked, so there was always enough space everywhere. The hygiene rules were always respected, there was disinfectant at the entrance to the restaurant and at the pool. All the sunbeds, tables and railings were also disinfected early in the morning.

Actually, I wanted to write this review immediately after our return, but as it often is, time passes so quickly. However, since we keep thinking back to our wonderful time at the Z Hotel, I would just like to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU again for a great and relaxing week.

I had booked at Z hotel on 14th of August 2021 for a weeks stay starting on December 11th 2021. I had booked a ocean front cottage and there are only 2 at the Z. On December 8th 2021 I got an email from ISMAEL KORONGO at the Z hotel informing me that reasons out of our control we will not be able to accommodate you in the Oceanfront Cottage room category for the first 2 nights and therefore we will have a rooftop suite available and you will decide if you want to keep the rooftop suite or move into the Oceanfront Cottage for the remaining 4 nights or Stay at the rooftop for the 7 nights at no extra cost. We also had an incident during our stay and the Z reimbursed our cost without questions. Excellent hotel to relax. Hotel is so close to the beach and has excellent choice of restaurants onsite. The rooftop suites was a Devine. Service excellent. Best thing was you could walk straight from ocean water into the well managed swimming pool. It was the only hotel with a partial private beach. At times it got little noisy since the there was curious market next door. True Review by Ashok and Sandhya from Huntington Beach California

Dear Esteemed Guest Thank you for the enquiry. Unfortunately, we have a hotel policy of not accommodating children under the age of 16 years old. I would be most grateful if you could kindly advise the platform as well as the booking name you used so that we can follow up on how you were able to make this reservation. Thanks in advance.
