The ZANZIBAR MAGIC BOUTIQUE HOTEL is set right on the spectacular white sand beach near Matemwe village on the north-east coast of Zanzibar Island. Eco-friendly and small-scale with only 19 rooms, the hotel’s design is inspired by traditional African and Zanzibari architecture. It is built with the unique skills of local craftsmen using local materials like palm leaves for the thatched bungalow and bar/restaurant roofs and mninge, the local hardwood, for the carpentry. The hotel is set on the always pleasantly breezy east coast of Zanzibar Island. The location and special design assure you can enjoy your stay, whether you choose the beachfront, our bar and restaurant or the spaciously comfortable rooms. All rooms include spacious wooden terraces, magical views of the white, palm-fringed beach and turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean.

Stayed in this lovely hotel for 2 days as a part of a 14 day trip in Zanzibar. The hotel itself is amazing little gem, eco place with very nice styled rooms ( we also had an amazing sea view from our room), great swimming pool that is also not too deep which is an advantage, situated on the beach itself so you could hear the waves from the see each morning and enjoy the coffee on the nice balcony.
Food was pretty decent, we had dinner there as well which was quite good for the price. Breakfast was also plenty and good choice served to you from a menu. Beach is the typical for that part of the island, so you can see both high and low tide here which was quite interesting for us.

Hotel is situated very close the famous snorkelling spot Mnebma island so we used one of the beach boys just outside hotel to organize trip for us – Waziri, trip was really good. You can do that through hotel as well.
In overall this place is really magical and definitely worth visiting. It is away from the crowd in Nungwi and really relaxed atmosphere with beautiful setting. Thank you for all the team that made our stay so unforgettable.

We stayed at Magic Boutique Hotel for 6 nights in August. Overall we had a nice stay. The beach is clean and swimable in high tide, rooms are stylish/clean, food is amazing and staff is very helpful&friendly (special thx to Robert and his friends at the Bar!). Things to improve:
Road to the hotel is VERY bad
You pay 5% fee if you pay the hotel by credit card
We did our reservation 2 months ago and realized that they made a discount to room prices later on. We kindly asked if the mgmt can offer the same discount to us but they said NO. Not nice! In hospitality business you are supposed to reward your early bird guests...
Overall, we had a nice stay but I don't think we would come again

Amazing place. The hotel is fully comfortable, the rooms are very neat and clean. However, what captivates - the hotel staff - first of all competent, friendly, full of commitment. In the case of staying with children, it gave us a great sense of security. We cannot forget to mention the meals served - delicious, always fresh, varied and prepared from the highest quality ingredients. I definitely recommend it.

Stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks. There’s 20 rooms, two of which are separate bungalows close to the beach. First impression was good, sea view, and fantastic white sandybeach that you could safely walk along. Ideally we found more restaurants on the left of the hotel. Downside to the hotel, there is no A/c in the rooms, which are built so that the outside wind circulates around the room ie stone decorative lattice window opening (with mesh to stop bugs entering) so there is actual no privacy between bedroom and bathroom. The first night was unbearable with the heat, and with nothing to block out the sun 6am it made it even more difficult to get a good nights sleep. We did ask for another fan but alas this did not cool the room it just circulated the air. Also we did think the the room smelt musty. Food was just ok, the same choices served almost everyday so, for those reasons we ate out a lot. Staff were very pleasant but there just wasn’t any ambience in the place. The room was cleaned daily with change of bedding/towels everyday. The owner drinks in the bar most nights he seems friendly and talkative however, he does not appreciate comments on the overcooked rubbery octopus! Overall, the hotel is in a beautiful location, staff are very friendly but the rooms definitely need A/C.

I'm a bit ambivalent about writing this review as the hotel had its ups and downs. The good things first... a very nice beach front area with the garden, swimming pool, deck chairs, and the bar/restaurant. The staff were very courteous and helpful throughout. There were kayaks and bicycles to borrow, which I recommend doing.

But then the biggest letdown were the rooms. The website boasts comfortable 35 m2 rooms. In reality they are pretty cramped and, if you stay on the ground floor, very dark. They are nowhere near the advertised 35 m2 unless you factor in the bathroom and the veranda in the equation.

Then the food... we only had a few meals here as we were on B&B but it was hit or miss. The seafood was very good, but then we had a couple of different chicken dishes that were below average. There's really no reason to go for a full board plan as there are numerous lodges and local shacks within walking distance that offer excellent dining options.

All in all the hotel was not bad to stay at, but we got the impression that the "boutique" part of the name was slapped on for being able to charge higher rates than are motivated by what is on offer.

The hotel, the bar and restaurant look very good. It's just what you expect from a resort. But they are a bit overpriced for what the offer and all seems rigid. This should not be understood as a critique, it is my opinion. It is just that a in such a calm, chill location, I was expecting something more laid-back.

The hotel is very quiet, clean and charming; its structure suits perfectly the nature around it. The view is wonderful, with the white, soft sand lying just in front of you. The hotel offers also free activities such as yoga three times a week. Even bycicles are available in front of the reception. The quality of the toilet products is excellent and the food is very tasty. All the staff, expecially the receptionists and the barmen, are extremely professional and friendly. Thank you very much to Anja and all the managers.

Spent 5 nights in this peaceful lodge and it was amazing.
Located right on the beach, splendid sunrise, very clean hotel, good food, great atmosphere, super service (thx to Mahmoud and team) and very welcoming owners.

Highly recommended, we went there with our 2 kids (10 and 2 years old).

There are a nice corral reefe where we walked out on the middel of the day and spotted fishes and colurfull seastars. No problem to find places to swim were ther is sand botten when the tide is high. Use shoes when walk out on the reef, takes about 30 min. Have a chatt with the local fisherboys out on the reef and let them show the catch of the day
