Hotel's Favourite
The Best of Africa + The Best of Italian Hospitality = Emerald Zanzibar. Pampered and very well looked-after during a glorious stay at Emerald Maldives back in February 2022, it was only too easy to be enticed by the newsletter announcement that Emerald Zanzibar would open in December 2022. Presto! The booking for our New Year's celebration was quickly made. And what a blessing has it been, indeed... The Emerald brand is relatively new on the international luxury travel scene, however it already stands out for its commitment to quality in the experiences it facilitates for its guests. From the moment we set foot outside the new Zanzibar airport, we have been carefully looked after with attention to detail and painstaking dedication. The resort is top-notch in terms of its all-inclusive formula, which includes anything you would need; not just food-and-drink-wise but even experience-wise: free snorkeling equipment and trips, multiple open-air jacuzzi pools available throughout the resort, free ice-cream and open-bar at all times, including during the night dancing sessions. And I probably forgot to experience a few perks in the offering, as our stay was regretfully just 8 days long. This brand-new resort enjoys a perfect beach-side location, facing Mnemba island with its pristine waters for divers and snorkellers, also the picture-perfect background for all those Instagram shots. Furthermore this is the only resort on Muyuni beach, making the walk on the extra-fine white powder even more enjoyable: just 2 minutes away from the resort leaves way for a quiet, almost remote location - giving us the ability to experience "castaway-level privacy" but without any of the hassles. And what about those lovely tiny birds nesting near the sand, with their image mirrored by the water receding on the shoreline: incredible memory literally on our doorstep :-) The legendary smile of the local African staff, masterfully coordinated by the experience of the resort managers, makes for a perfect cocktail of hospitality. Truly notable are the 24/7 gym, with a trainer on-hand to provide personal coaching sessions at no extra charge; or the spa facilities, with private pool, sauna and jacuzzi also available at no extra charge (whereas massages were to be booked and paid for, but excellent value when compared to London). The value-for-money of the inclusive offering is unbeatable! We visited as a couple, however I trust that this resort would also be ideal for families with young kids, as I noticed that they have a super-large baby-center open until 22.30 offering amenities such as PlayStation and pool, foosball etc. Also cool for young people looking for a bit extra fun on the dance floor, or adventure in the many excursions all around the magical island of Zanzibar. Our other friends have just basically loitered for a whole week on the expansive infinity pool overlooking Mnemba, basking in the sun, ticking all their boxes simply by being pampered with drinks and food pool-side while enjoying the luxury laziness, with all service included and at no extra charge. On the other hand, when compared to them to be honest we wanted a bit more action: so we threw in a spice-tour and visit of Stone Town, plus extra diving and snorkelling, and of course the outstanding "Romantic Dinner" artfully arranged on the beach with an exclusive setting. Unforgettable! To each, their own. I believe anyone can find something to their taste of food, with four restaurants serving any type of food, from fresh local lobster to Italian "Sardinian Pig" which was above and beyond what we would have expected of such a remote tropical location. The rooms were huge, much larger than a resort room, more like luxury suites: specifically, we booked a Jacuzzi Suite and my only regret was not to have spent more time enjoying it, as there was so much to do elsewhere - but the shower was as large as I have ever seen, and the Jacuzzi itself with a direct view of Mnemba island and cool lighting was nevertheless a worthy addition to our holiday. Every day a different band would play live at dinner, with a local masai market arranged on one night or a jazz concert on another night, plus of course the glorious new year's party featuring our own fireworks. Here's to a great 2023 in the wake of Zanzibari spirit, thank you very very much Emerald Zanzibar. Asante sana!

We stayed at The Mora for 5 days and we were well looked after from the moment we arrived to our last day. Sadly our daughter felt sick from the second day and to our relief a medical team was on standby within the complex, headed by Dr Marco Gamel. The Dr service was 24hrs and we were treated to allow us to also enjoy the holiday whilst receiving treatment. As a parent we were reassured to be in goods hands and medicine was provided for and sound advice! The Customer service team were all aware and triggered to support when we needed - thankyou Mr Ajay and the full Customer Suport team. The facitlities were excellent, great Kids club which we used every day. Free Ice cream all day and amazing selection of food and restaurants which varied everyday. Ensure to try the chinese resaurant, the food was great! The staff were all helpful, happy and very positive to provide an all round great service for our holiday. We'd definately look to come back again.

The place was beautiful and had everything that a family with young kids would need. Also accommodating for adults with a few nighttime activities and bar. Overall the experience was well worth it and we would definitely return. A huge thank you to the entire staff at the resort who were so friendly and helpful. Our family isn’t easy to please but everyone exceeded our expectations by far. The beach bar staff were the highlight: Ibrahim, Glory, sausazan, Hassan. The night pool bar a big huge thank you to Peter for his impeccable service and care for my husband and I. Andrea as well at the night shift pool bar area played with our two young boys the woffle ball. Again, we appreciate all the hardworking staff and the beautiful memories we made.

We greatly enjoyed our last hotel in Zanzibar, and a very good all inclusive with a great selection of drinks and food available throughout the hotel. We had a lovely welcome with snacks and drinks, and were told about the app we needed to book sitting for the meals. We were shown to our room, which was on the middle block on the first floor, just note there isn’t any lifts. Our room was a garden view, all the surroundings are beautifully kept, and we were a short walk from the garden pool, which had its own pool bar, and the staff were very good at bringing you drinks and helping with beds if needed. All the restaurants were down the gentle walk down to the main pool and down steps to all the restaurants, this wasn’t adult only so there was parents having to carry pushchairs up and down the steps and where it’s very hot, this I,m sure is a task in its self. We visited the restaurant by the beach, where they serve lovely pizzas, and a good selection of lunch options, and drinks and cocktails were very good, with a choice of wines available that are included. We found the food manager to book our evening meals as the app didn’t have any of the times available at all for our stay, which she took our choices and booked us in, job done. The steak restaurant was our first choice, however a little strange as you have half buffet to get your chips, salad and other sides, so some of this wasn't particularly warm and then you order your steak, this was ok. The oriental restaurant was much better, good choice of starters and mains very good, so we choose to eat here twice. The beach restaurant which is open for lunch also serves pizza in the evenings, but with less options than during the day, which we thought was strange. Daytime buffet was also good with a nice area which was air conditioned, which is a relief from the extreme heat. An amazing selection of foods from all over the world, fresh pasta stations, loads of choices too much to mention, but all very good. In the evening the was an outside bar with an area which is covered in case of the occasional downpour, with a pool table and table tennis to amuse the kids. The service I would say could be a little better in the evenings as orders were given, and took ages to come, so as a tip just order and wait at the bar, much quicker. The quality of the cocktails were average, but on the whole it’s good value for money. For the beach, again this hotel is affected by the tides so the water goes a long way out, but when it does come in, it’s so lovely and hot for swimming and nice and clear to swim in. Sunbeds are available all along the beach, but loads of towels left on them, so not always sure which were free? The beach guys will help you out, buts it a long stretch of beach chairs. And when you do venture out onto the sand for a dip, you’ll be immediately approached by the beach sellers offering boats trips and everything else under the sun, they are very persistent but will eventually leave you alone if you keep saying no, otherwise you’ll need to barter well to get the prices down. Overall we really enjoyed our stay here, great value for money and good service.

We visited this resort for one week at the beginning of March. We know Emerald from the Maldives as excellent resorts. However, we cannot say the same about Mora and therefore the former Emerald. This is an average resort with average services. Although the facilities are new and everything is nice, the other things were disappointing for us. The food is average both in quality and variety. Many times unsubstantiated basic things. No branded water. There is an additional charge for branded drinks. The wine offer is varied, but two or three types of white wine were actually available. And when something appeared such old wines from 2020. Why do you have a wine list? The sea and the beach cannot be compared with the west side of the island. You mostly bathe in algae. They are also on the beach. For swimming, it is necessary to track the time when there is no low tide. Despite this, we spent a nice vacation at your place and got to know the new hotel. Thanks to everyone who made it pleasant for us.

Dear Simplytravel2015, Firstly, thank you for taking the time to leave a review of your stay. We sincerely regret the inconveniences you experienced during your recent stay at Mora. We acknowledge your feedback regarding the average quality and variety of food, as well as the lack of branded water and inconsistency in the availability of certain beverages. In regard to the beach the tides are natural occurring and is something we encourage guests to explore for themselves to see interesting sea animals on the shores. Please know that we are committed to continuously improving and enhancing The Mora, and we are currently in the process of rolling out various initiatives over the next few months to address the concerns raised in your review. This includes refining our food offerings, ensuring consistent availability of branded beverages, and taking steps to improve the beach and sea conditions for our guests' enjoyment. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to elevate the Mora experience to meet and exceed the standards expected by our valued guests. Thank you once again for your feedback, and we are grateful for the opportunity to serve you.
