We stayed 4 nights in Bluebay, and had a good experience overall. The property is vast, with 3 restaurants, a great pool and a pvt beachfront. It is a bit out of the way and far from stone town and other attractions. If you truly want to experience Zanzibar, I would recommend you live in stone town.

Rooms: decently large, with a nice sitout. You cannot use the sitout after evening due to mosquitoes. There was no AC in our room, so we had to ask for a pedestal fan. The weather is very hot and sticky, so ensure you get an AC room. The bathrooms are very small for the quality of the hotel and definitely should be larger.

Food : very good spread at the breakfast and dinner buffets. The dinner buffets have a theme which differs every night, and there is enough variety for all tastes. The breakfast buffet is also vast and good quality. Service is very good, and the staff is especially attentive to the needs of small children.

Facilities : the pool is great, as is the beachfront. They have a plethora of watersports available, as well as organised tours. I would advise you to organise your own tours through local contacts, as they will probably be 50% of the price compared to the travel desk.

Overall, really good as a beach property, however the real taste of Zanzibar is in Stone Town.

This was my first holiday after the 2 year long pandemic.
I had always dreamt about Zanzibar and now it was finally time for my trip. From the minute I arrived to the resort I felt so welcomed and I fell in love instantly with the venue, the wonderful surroundings and the absolute amazing staff.
My villa door/entry was decorated with beautiful flowers and when I came into the room it was so lovely and welcoming with hibiscus flowers on the bed and a breathtaking view from the private veranda towards the beautiful Indian Ocean and the green garden.
The full board meals was delicious and variations in the food selections, catch of the day fish, beautiful grilled, or lovely chicken or meat, vegetarian options and wonderful bread selections and super yummy desserts.
Every evening it was live band entertainment, great music and dance shows.
The evenings are beautiful, the sky is like velvet and the stars are just beautiful.
During the days it was options to participate in water aerobics in the swimming pool, also there was a great fully equipment gym and an awesome SPA salon, I had the best Deep Tissue Massage ever!
The beach is beautiful, pristine sand, but bring sea shoes, so you feel safe in the water, the low and high tide is spectacular, just amazing, when the high tide come in it’s just beautiful to play in the waves.
There is also an diving school, also possibility to borrow paddle boards etc.
Every week there is a beach cleanup, very fun to participate in.
The staff in Bluebay Resort is just so great and lovely, and I mean everyone of them, I felt like a princess for a week, everyone said hello or Jambo in Swahili, many know my name, i love that detail, that the team members put in efforts learning the names of their guests, it makes it feel personal and special. All the staff was so sweet and helpful, also as a solo traveller I was so well taken care of and extra spoiled with attention. I was feeling like one in the Bluebay resort family, I had so much fun, I will totally come back an recommend this African diamond to resort to all my friends and families. Of 5 stars I give Bluebay resort 10 golden stars.
Thank you Asante Sana to the full team of Dass Bangar, you are all amazing!!
See you all soon again.
Best regards from Ann Maria Jangsell Williams

What an amazing resort, just what we needed after a grueling 12-day safari in Kenya and Tanzania!
This place has heart, we felt so welcomed from the moment we stepped into the resort.
All the staff are absolutely fantastic, a special shout out to the resort manager Jonathan, so very helpful! Jonathan was helpful beyond words from helping us get the Covid testing prior to travelling back home, taking 100% care of our friends that we left behind due to travel restrictions.
I would not mind being “stranded” here!
Loved that Joyce always greeted us with a smile anytime she met us, she was a sweetheart.
The garden rooms were beautiful with a ginormous bed and well-appointed with everything one needs! I like how the closets are not attached to the bedroom but on the side so not in view. Housekeeping staff were always ready to provide an extra towel, iron etc…with a smile.
Each night the food, drinks and entertainment were excellent (we had the All Inclusive package if you plan to spend time on the resort)
The grounds and the doorstep access to the beach make this place a paradise. Not to forget the spa, best aromatherapy massage in a long time.

First impressions were really good, resort is nicely laid out & has a real feeling of paradise. However please be aware that although it directly faces the beach you cannot place sunloungers on it, all these are on a narrow sand covered terrace built above as a sea defence wall. Depending on tide times the beach is completely covered by water for part of the day & being a public beach was full of beach sellers, there was also quite a lot of sea weed during our stay.
Our room was quite nice with a large balcony (superior ) but seemed tired looking, particularly the bathroom which was very dated. We were missing a bedside table & lamp which took 2 attempts at reception to get sorted out!
All inclusive board option was probably the most limited we've ever experienced, food from the same restaurant for all meals which got very repetitive after a few days & was often luke warm. Eating at all other restaurants is charged extra but they seemed empty most of the time anyway, Drinks were also very limited , most being top shelf which again were extra & annoyingly everything had to be signed for, even water.
Staff in general were quite friendly but lacked management guidance & service was a bit hit & miss at times with certain nationalities (europeans) seeming to get preferential treatment.
This is definitely not a 5 or even 4 star plus resort which is a shame as has the makings of something really special!

Asante sanna to Dass and his amazing team. We spent 6 nights at the beautiful Bluebay Beach & Spa resort and didn't want to leave. The hotel is fantastic, spotlessly clean, with stunning gardens that are constantly being attended to, so the gardens and beach front always looks gorgeous.

The food (buffet style) was excellent with theme nights each evening, accompanied by entertainment which always included a live band, sometime dancers too. Our last night was seafood night with a whole tuna, prepared shasimi style, grilled calamari and roasted whole fish a highlight.

Rooms are lovely and large (with a 6ft wide bed) and are attended to twice a day, with a turndown service at night. We had a beautiful view over the gardens to the sea. Also important to note that despite having a mosquito net over our bed, we did not get a single bite over the duration of our holiday despite being outside in the restaurant or bar every evening.

The animation team work hard to ensure you have a great time if want to do something other than just lying on a sunbed, and have lots of options to get involved in activities. On a daily basis we did Aqua Gym, water polo, Boccia (similar to boules) and volleyball. This enabled us to meet other guests and enjoy a bit of competitive fun. Thanks to Abuu for his enthusiasm and jovialitity in running all of these events. The coconut class run by Isaac was also a highlight. It was really interesting and could not have been in a more beautiful setting, by the side of the Indian Ocean.

I was lucky enough to spend my birthday at Bluebay. My partner had booked a massage for us both, which was sublime. In the evening at dinner the hotel organised an incredible surprise, presenting a cake which was delivered by a procession of 8 members of staff, singing as they made their way from the kitchen to our table. I was also presented with a beautiful bouquet of flowers collected from the gardens. The band that evening also sang Happy Birthday. I felt truly spoilt. A big thank you to Joyce for all of her efforts.

You can see that all the staff are so happy in their work. They all make an effort to say Jambo (hello) and a lot get to know you by name. This was certainly appreciated.

We had such a great time and very much hope to return to the beautiful Bluebay on Zanzibar one day soon.

We stayed all inclusive for 5 days.
The drinks are fine, they start serving all at 11am apart from water. As all-inclusive, I would have liked to see plastic glasses and
water dispensers available, not all these small, polluting, plastic bottles. Food was average standard buffet, often ran out for 10 mins during busy times, but service was good and the salads and soups were lovely. The grounds were well kept, and there is a diving school and free use of
Kayaks and SUPs, table tennis and pool tables.
The pool was a bit dirty, and needs more attention.
The room was stunning, with wonderful cleaner and a great bed. You have to get pool towels from reception instead of at the pool, which is annoying if you are all ready to swim. All in all though, we enjoyed it.

Hotel was in a great location on the beach, we booked a junior suite, which was lovely, giving us privacy whilst still being close to pool, restaurant, bar, etc. After doing a Safari for 10 days, this was a perfect stop to recuperate. Quality of restaurant meals were good. There is a Spa onsite offering reasonably priced pamper packages. There is a few maintenance issues such as phone in rooms didn't work in rooms and water pressure in shower wasn't great, however these didn't distract from our fabulous stay. I also recommend that they offer the ability to order snacks around the pool (around lunchtime). You could order drinks but not food.

This amazing resort is directly on a long pristine white sand beach (see photo). We had two rooms with breathtaking sea views, terraces opening onto an exotic blooming garden, a few steps to the beach.
Bluebay is both exclusive and friendly, with delicious fresh food (I am French and demanding on food...), and a great diversity of activities available, from active (my husband and daughter found the diving absolutely thrilling and went kayaking to the coral reef, while I enjoyed the water aerobic and meditation on the beach) to having wonderful massages and a great facial by highly qualified therapists at the Bluebay spa.
The rooms are luxurious, large, airy, and appointed with great taste and offer all you need: a giant comfy bed, a variety of free tea/drinks, fragrant local shampoos, conditioner and lotion and... a great private outside shower in addition to the full bathroom with a bubbly bath!
This is a unique resort, offering the ultimate tropical holidays experience in a luxurious yet relaxed way. We will be back!!!

Thank you Blue Bay for ruining our holidays.
Stale prawns at Blue Marlin today have messed up my sons and my stomach; apologies not acceptable; the cocktails were insipid; there is rationed water for drinking in the rooms which incidentally is to be used for rinsing as well; the house keeping sucks; wifi doesn’t work in the loo.
I guess the hotel survives only for lack of competition.

We stayed in this hotel for two weeks as part of my Birthday celebration. The location is stunning, it’s set on a beautiful white sandy beach with crystal blue water. At low tide you can walk out a long way to investigate the reef (remember beach shoes due to sea urchins). There is also a choice of water sports available if you want them. Only downside to the beach is that you are hassled by people trying to tempt you with trips etc. A simple no thankyou usually suffices and they then leave you alone.
On the whole, this is a lovely hotel, the staff are extremely helpful and friendly. A big shout out to Joyce, Adam, Lizy, Dickson, Catherine, Mgeni and Hafidhi, all of whom looked after us very well.
The food is good but the snacks in between meals were few and far between. Drinks also good although you are limited to specific cocktails and have to pay if you want something not on the list. Coffee area is lovely but you have to pay if you want anything other than basic coffee. A sandwich costs $10!!!
There is a really good gym and a tennis court to keep you active if you want it. Nightly entertainment was variable in quality but still pretty good.
The hotel staff sang me Happy Birthday and presented me with flowers and a cake which made my day even more special.
We did three trips which we booked through TUI. You can probably get them cheaper elsewhere (try contacting Fisherman Tours direct). Quad biking is an experience but be prepared to get very dirty from the dust. Prison Island and Stone Town are interesting and Safari Blue is good if you enjoy snorkelling and boat trips. Also included is an excellent seafood BBQ. Be aware the sea can be quite rough so take sea sickness tablets if you suffer. Also expect to get wet on the way back so if you have a waterproof bag, take it! Make sure you take sea shoes.
All in all we had an excellent holiday and would highly recommend you visit Bluebay Resort and Spa in Zanzibar.
