At the end of Nov 2019, we were 3 couples that visited Zanzibar for our 25th wedding anniversary and stayed at Diamonds Mapenzi. From when we got there, the staff welcomed us and their service was really very good. Everything around the resort was explained as well as the detail around what was inclusive.

The rooms were the best. We reserved the beach villas and it was the best thing ever. Right on the beach, with beautiful ocean view in front of you.
The rooms were lovely and spacious. The bathroom had a great double shower and never had any issues with hot water etc.

The food at the resort was good, well prepared and a good selection. Not a lot of meat, mostly fish and chicken, but still plenty to choose from.

Many days we just had lunch at The beach restaurants and that was just as good, but you do have to book in advance.

The poolbar was great, adequate drinks on the menu. And it didnt taste like watered down drinks as I have experienced at some “all-inclusive” offerings.

The local traders can become a bit of a irritation but resort sorts them out quickly.

We went walking along the beach and into the shallow water for kilometers. Used a local guide and learned so much of the local sea life.

The rock restaurant was disappointing, extremely expensive and the food was rather bland. I don’t recommend that at all.

If you want to do an outing , do a seafari Blue snorkeling trip. Ot was snorkeling was awesome.lunch on one of the islands where much better than The Rock..eat as much as you like crayfish, prawns, all types fish and veg and fruits.

I can definitely recommend Diamonds Mpenzi

Wow what can I say about this place! We just come back from here after arriving on the 12/12/2019 and staying for 23 nights for our Honeymoon.

This place is breathtaking, the Staff are totally amazing, from Tobias the General Manager, to the reception staff, to the chefs (victor) and the rest of the staff Said, Mareweb, Hassan, Tiem, Rachel and all the others, nothing was ever a problem and they are always happy and will go above and beyond their duties. Treat them with resepect as ew saw some Russians didnt and were very rude! but again thats Russians for you!

We stayed in room 124 and was beautfiully decorated on arrival with wine, fruit etc being Honeymoon. We arrive 2am local time and they greet you with a refreshing drink and cleansing towel.

We had a view of the beach and sea and I could wake up to that view everyday of my life if I could.

The cleanliness of the Hotel was right up there! Just perfect all the time.

It was a nonour to be with the staff for Christmas and New Year and boy did they work hard to put on the amazing banquets and entertainment.

I could go on and on raving about this hotel, but one thing I will say is that they made us have so many special memories for life.

I would recommend this Hotel in a whisper to anyone thinking of going to Zanzibar!

It was paradise and very sad to be home now.

So the managers to the staff! well done! you have an amazing Hotel!

Absolutely stunning resort with great views of the indian ocean, endless palms, white sands, great food and a team of fantastic welcoming staff. Christmas eve and Christmas Day were ones that we’ll always remember including my 4 and 9 year old. We easily got use to singing Christmas songs poolside contending with over 30 degrees of heat!! The children loved the pool, beach and animation activities, led by Hassan, Siad, Shuma or Rachel - all were great with children. They picked up some of the language with help from the waiteresses.
The resort does cater for everyone including those with small children, the grounds are substantial and safe, we were happy for the girls to walk by themselves to get a drink etc.
Food was plentiful and varied, Victor was so kind to make special bits for the kids and always made time to come and say hello to the guests.
Superior Room was fine for us and was cleaned everyday with flowers on the beds inc, a cute HB message for my 40th.
Only minor complaints from us but nothing that the resort can control, is the amount of seaweed present in the ocean and number of hawkers on the beach front. Getting approached numerous times as soon as you got onto the beach, did put you off going onto the beach but in fairness you only have to say no once and they do leave you alone..

Zanzibar, you are a gem of an island... we can’t wait to return!! 🏝

Arrived really late and welcome was ok but just wanted our rooms. They had put fruit and sandwiches in the room which would have been better for me had it been gluten free and the hotel was aware of this gf need. Not an issue though.

Our beachfront villa smelt musty and damp as if it hadn’t been used for a while, but it had been locked up without much ventilation. After a day or so with wide open windows and patio door open, this smell disappeared.

The shower grout was shockingly dirty and we mentioned this and had it deep cleaned at least three times. It ended up not perfect but better.

One of the photos I took also showed that we had mushrooms growing in the room but these were removed.

Location wise, we were close to the beach restaurant and on front line and we couldn’t complain about where we were with views over the ocean.

Food was fine, there was always a choice although like most AI hotels, it does become a bit ‘same as before’. Victor; the executive chef offered his services to make gf food or provide gf pasta and everyday he would acknowledge me with a thumbs up or walked round the restaurant to make sure all was well.

One of our party is a dessert lover and everyday she had a great choice to tempt her palate for sweet stuff.

I’m not one for the entertainment that is usually provided in hotels and here was no exception. I’m sure they meant well, but it was generally loud, unfunny ( even if they thought it was ) and banal. They low point if I had to choose one was the bingo night, although it was so so bad, it almost became funny.

Cleanliness wasn’t an issue anywhere ( other than in our room to start with ) and our room was cleaned well daily with fresh linen and towels provided.

We’d taken gym stuff with us and the gym near reception was equipped with sufficient equipment to allow for small circuits providing it wasn’t too busy.

Mention is made of the hawkers on the beach and these could be annoying, but just don’t give them a name as they keep coming back. I did venture to the sea when the tide was out and it is a long walk ( I seemed to think about 1/2 mile ) with two of the hawkers and the star fish they found in the rock pools, I don’t think I’d have found, so in my case it was worth the hassle.

For its shortcomings, the positives more than outweigh them and I would return although it’s very unlikely as there are too many other places to visit.

On check out day, we paid extra to keep a room on and this was another beach front villa, so we had to move four cases and all our hand luggage from our original rooms. This room unfortunately had a leaky air con machine and we had to use towels from the gym to soak water up from the floor in the room.

When we visited the diamonds Mapenzi in November 2018 we knew this was the right place to bring our family and friends for our destination wedding!
The staff are exceptionally friendly, always smiling, the food is fresh, varied and we loved the themed dinners around the pool and Africa night on the beach.
The kids loved the pool and the entertainment area which included a pool table, table tennis, as well as a PlayStation and wii, and it was in close proximity to where the adults might enjoy a post dinner drink so they could run freely and safely.
The beach is stunning, and our beach villa was perfect!
The diamonds accommodated ourselves and 52 other guests, and all u can say is they went above and beyond for us all to ensure our wedding reception was nothing but perfect, fun, entertaining and filled with delicious food and drinks, the effort they went to was outstanding and I can especially say Ester and chef victor put in so much amazing work for us.
I would highly recommend this hotel and we will be back!!

With 105 detached villas and duplexes, Diamonds Mapenzi offered us the perfect blend of solitude and services. After a very long trip from the US, we were greeted by gentle, funny, kind locals who whisked us to a beautiful view of the Indian Ocean. We broke up our visit with a few nights in Stone Town and day trips that Victor, the amazing, over-qualified guest services manager facilitated for us without snags. My daughter and I dressed modestly in town, but at the resort you can sashay around in your bathing suit if that is your thing ;-) The excellent meals are served buffet style, but if you crave solitude you can arrange meals a la carte for a few extra dollars at the beach front bar restaurant.

I highly recommend the East Coast for its amazing rock free sandy beaches where, at low tide, you can walk out a mile to look for starfish and other shy creatures. At high tide the swimming water is warm and clear right up to the stone steps.

I had been looking for a smaller resort but needed AC for my adult daughter’s allergies. This turned out to be the perfect balance for us, since we even extended our stay.

There are Masai and a few beach boys who pass by on the beach but they never step up the three stone steps to the hotel property. I hate saying no, and most are innocuous and take no for an answer, so this was good for me. One day a beach boy annoyed us during a long beach walk and Victor sent staff out to clear the beach for us the next day!

The resort is very popular with German, French, and Spanish tourists, several of whom brought young children along on a multigenerational school break trip the week we visited. They were never overwhelming and co-existed with groggy honeymooners at meals just fine! Definitely a barefoot, relaxing vibe.

Both times we visited that week we took standard rooms, which offered private verandas and entrances with ocean views. We peeked at a neighboring resort and were disappointed to see low rise motel type structures the norm there. Not here!

Zanzibar’s Mapenzie beach hotel is beautiful! Never have I seen such a beautiful beach/ocean, absolutely priceless. I have just been once but I can assure you that I’ll be back. From the food to the hotel staff it was just perfect. It catered for everyone all couples, families and friends could sit back and relax in paradise. All the local Masai’s are also just as friendly taking you out to the reef when the tide is low in the early morning for around £2, there is also a huge range of different tours and activities you can do provided by the hotel making it a holiday I will never forget.

We went to zanzibar on our honeymoon. This hotel is beautiful with an incredibly friendly staff! We felt very welcome, and everyone went out of their way to make the guests happy. They have theme-nitghts every night, and we espesially enjoyed the african dinner at the beach which was held once a week. There was also local african dance, drumming and acrobatic show, which we enjoyed. During the day they offered aqua arobics at the pool, volley ball tournament among other activities.

The food is amazing and you have a lot to choose from at every meal. The chefs Victor and Vinoth was really helpful to adjust the meals to my glutenfree diet.

The rooms were clean and the bed was decorated with flowers every day. This gave the room a tropical feel and was a nice toutch.

My husband had his birthday during our stay, and several members of the staff congratulated him on their own initiative. There was a congraulation-note on the bed from the room cleaners, and they decorated our dinner-table extra nicely.

Since this was our honeymoon, there was a dinner at the beach included in our stay on a night of our choosing. This was beautifully set ut, and a night to remember!

Some minor things to mention that could have been better: There were often missing something when they restocked the room during the daily cleaning. Such as one towel missing, not restocked sanitary items or such. It also said that bathrobes were included, but the hotel didn't have any i turned out. The bathrooms are a little dated and could use a fresh paint. But these are just minor things, and we are very happy with our stay!

Dear Sverre, Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed review. We are very happy that you enjoyed your stay at Diamonds Mapenzi Beach. It was a pleasure hosting you and being part of such a special trip. We do agree with you, dinner on the beach with the African Dancers is a memorable experience. The food prepared by Chef Victor and his culinary team is definitely the best cuisine on the island! Noteless to mention the Aqua Aerobics does come in handy and encourages you to get some exercise in :-) We will pass on your comments to the whole team as they all take pride in providing our guests with a memorable experience. We are very happy that we could celebrate not only your Honeymoon but also your husband's Birthday with you! We also would like to thank you for your constructive feedback and have passed it on to the necessary departments. We value all feedback and do it constructively onboard. My husband and I stayed at Diamonds Mapenzi Beach for 6 nights for our honeymoon, and we were not disappointed. The hotel is in a spectacular location directly on the beach with beautiful Caribbean rivalling waters. We stayed in one of the beachfront apartments. The room was modern, stylish and very clean. The beach front location was perfect with stunning views and it allowed us to privately sunbathe whilst having the luxury of our apartment being so close by. The all inclusive food was amazing. The best all inclusive we've ever stayed at. There was plenty of variety and it was so fresh. We were also treated free of charge to a wonderful seafood meal on the beach for our honeymoon - it was perfect. The staff are incredibly friendly and go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and relaxed. We'd like to especially thank Victor for all his help. Victor organised our honeymoon meal and was understanding of the fact our marriage certificate was still caught up in Italy. We also had some issues with flight changes. Victor spent an hour on the phone to the airline ensuring we got on an earlier flight, saving us so much stress and worry that we may miss our connecting flight.

The only slight negative we had was the beach sellers. They wonder along the beach everyday trying to sell you tours and gifts. However, this didn't deter from the wonderful time we had. We would highly recommend Diamonds Mapenzi Beach to anyone. We had the most incredible experience and we'd love to go back! Thank you for such a pleasant stay.

We booked a room instead of a villa and there was no TV there. However, in some web pages I've read that villas have TV. As far as I remember, there is also a TV in a place near reception. However we didn't miss TVs in Tanzania, so much beauty outside :)))) Wifi was very weak inside the room but strong in reception, swimming-pool and beach bar. It is a very good WIFI and you can watch streaming content in those places.
