Very popular with business travellers in the energy industry this hotel is located right on the river. There are a number of restaurants in close walking distance.
The best thing about this property was they kindly upgraded me to a large apartment. The second best thing is the proces are extremely reasonable if you’re on a corporate rate.
As for the opportunities for improvement, it was strange that they only give you one towel for your bathroom. I called reception to ask for a 2nd one and was told it’s not possible. So I waited until later and spoke to reception a 2nd time, explaining a needed 2 towels - again it was clear this was not something they do. That in itself earns the hotel a 3* review.
They also only supplied three flat pillows and I only got the 4th pillow sent up on 2nd request.
The other annoyance was the internal heating. When I arrived my room temp was 27C. Only after I shut the heating off, and open windows (-10C outside) could I get the temp down to a level where it was comfortable to sleep. Maybe it’s a cultural issue but the heating is set way too high.

The other area for improvement is in food service. If you order a meal don’t assume all items will arrive at the same time, as you would expect.

Only one of the two lifts were working causing delays during bus6 periods.
What I liked was good little mini bar in reception area and nice spa with very inexpensive massage service.

Nice location right next to the river. Rooms are clean and reasonably quiet. I stayed in one of the apartments on the 9th floor. Room was ok, but the airconditioning was clearly not up to the job and the room was pretty hot. Breakfast is ok with a decent variety of sweet and salted choices. River Palace is certainly not the best hotel I ever visited, but id does the job. The rooftop pool is amazing in summer, and the bar & restaurant up there is overall ok

stayed here on business for a few nights in September. I had previously stayed at Hotel Kazakhstan, but this hotel was much better and only a few euros more per night. The hotel building is combined with offices, so it feels essentially like an office block. However, within the hotel corridors there is a more pleasant environment, which feels quite cosy and very clean. The room was spacious and the internet was a good speed. The shower was a nice size and water piping hot. Breakfast is good too, nice coffee (not nescafe) and a wide selection of hot and cold food. The best bit about the hotel is the gym and pool, although the staff insistence that i wear a silly plastic cap to swim was a bit weird. I ate pizza one night at the hotel - it was ok. All in all, for the price, the level of comfort, and in comparison with other hotels in Atyrau i would say this is an excellent option and will definitely stay here again.

Hotel with awful service. Being a regular visitor of the gym and restaurants of this place, security very rudely didn’t let me literally yesterday when I wanted to go to to the restaurant from the main entrance where I USUALLY enter and had no problems with that previously, I was kicked out from the lobby, and was asked to enter from the backside.

Please note that I used to visit this hotel every freaking week before.

Hotel claims itself as 5 star hotel. What a joke.

I stayed at this hotel several times during my travels in Kazakhstan and found it quite comfortable and well served. I was fully satisfied in all my needs with taxi, restaurant and room. During my last stay I had a window with a pleasant view of the Ural River; hence don't miss to ask for it.

1: The first thing noticed and over time depending how long your stay is, is the irritating and frustrating loud music played everywhere in the restaurants and bars and numerous times guests and residents have requested this be turned down.
2: Security camera's are everywhere and on every hotel level and behind beams where you feel your every move is being monitored and tracked by the number of security personnel. Gives a distinct feeling of a lack of privacy and freedom.
3: Drinks prices are the highest in Atyrau. A complete rip off. A jack daniels and coke will set you back about 2,800 tenge (about 14 USD). There are many outside garden bars and western pubs (Guns and Roses) with permanent happy hours around 6-8 at a fraction of the cost. So go there as the hotel doesnt offer anything. Also, there are the local shops which are cheeper than the big Ramstore, and careful selecting will save you significant monies. Need to get a taxi?....the hotel will order you one anytime and they have selected users with radios and is a safer bet than the local 'on-the street' cabs.
As with any forgeign country, common sense prevails. Get drunk and show it in public and you could be arrested or in jail. this is serious in Atyrau. Do not wander the streets alone at night after visiting any bars etc. Get educated with basic russian as most dont speak english except in the hotels and it will pay dividends. Most locals are freindly and helpful.
4: Roof top pool restaurant and bar is a good venue and gets busy at the weekends with live music at varying levels where you'll see some people not drinking or drinking water, but you wont see many buying rounds etc. Hardly suprising. At the summertime, the hotel also raises its drinks prices to further rip off guests and the increased visitors, something that most residents comment on as stupid and arrogant.
Pizza'a are excellent and they have an excellent selection via the menu's.
5: The hotel is Itallian owned and managed, and therefore has a distinct and unmistakable iItallian theme.

Hotel is good for the value, a bit worn but for mid range price it's OK. Food is so-so, except pizza and you can not get iron in your room((. On a positive side it has excellent swiming pool at the basement and summer bar with a pool on the roof.

The room was more of a suite with a small kitchenette and living room. The bed was giant and comfortable. It was a little annoying that hot air was blowing out of the vents even when the HVAC was OFF, so I opened the window through the night which was pleasant. The bath products were above average and the place definitely has some charm. I would recommend. The breakfast was OK, despite the lousy coffee.

This hotel has bars (either roof bar in summer, cellar bar in winter), couple of restaurants, nice rooms, friendly service and good gym with decent pool. So long as you like simple Italian food then the restaurants are fine. For the man alone the hotel also benefits from good time girls being freely available in the bars and therefore it is easy to take them to your room without any hassle. This is very convenient; perhaps why the Italians love the place!

I have been going on business to Atyrau for the last 15 years and always stay at the River Palace. When it was first built , byt the Renco company, it was known as the Renco. Call it the Renco and people know you as a regular visitor. There is now much more competition in Atyrau with good to excellent standard Western hotels. But in the summer I just love the roof top pool, bar and restaurant which has a party atmosphere. Service is varied, sometimes good sometimes disinterested, which is somewhat typical of former Soviet Union countries. Even after over 25 years the client is not yet king!
