In August 2020, I traveled down to the Loire Valley to escape from stuffiness of the city (booked on booking.com). The hostess Suzanne and her husband Robert were wonderful and welcoming, they offered to pick me up at Saumur train station. The grounds are quiet and well-cared for, it was a perfect getaway, and was exactly what I was looking for. I was quite concerned about my safety in midst of this covid crisis, but there I realized I was worried for nothing, as I could see how careful Suzanne was in this matter. During my stay Suzanne was my mom and travel guide.. As I did not have a car, she drove me around to nearby attractions like the many chateaux the region is famous for. I stayed in two different rooms, Saumur and Richelieu. Saumur, which is on the second floor, was spacious with high ceiling and a roof window, in cream and blue theme. There is a bathtub so I enjoyed bubble baths! You can get a good view especially of the sunrise. Richelieu, downstairs, is cozier and cooler, in tones of violet. Both rooms were very clean and tidy, and Suzanne fills them with various teas and chocolates. You can really see how dedicated she is to the estate from the diffuser she puts everywhere around the house, which comes from a nearby chateau-jardin. You are first welcomed by a beautiful tea set and a cake from a local bakery. Every morning you'd find the dining table packed with fresh food, all together with bread she picks up every morning in town. I was always stuffed after Suzanne's breakfast! Suzanne is also a yoga and meditation instructor, so I took this opportunity to get a glimpse into these practices. The yoga studio is breezy with soft sunlight peeking in, and Suzanne was a more than perfect teacher to guide me in. I think I miss this the most! Whether you are looking for somewhere quiet and peaceful or a base for your exciting trip around the region, La Chabotterie would be the perfect destination. I would definitely go back soon! PS. If you are planning on visiting the most famous restaurant in Loudun, Le Ricordeau, DO make a reservation ahead of time. Very popular and very good!…
Great welcome from hosts Robert and Susan, fire, tea and fruit in the sitting room, wine peanuts and fruit in our fairy-tale bedroom with an incredible attention to details, making you feel very special and in a very personal and special place. Very large bedroom, high beam ceiling, Robert and Susan going out of their way to make us feel welcome. Great breakfast, they made us feel very welcome and very welcome. Tea or coffee always ready, fireplace on, all in a beautifully restored 16th century farm. A great experience in itself. We'd recommend la Chabotterie to any traveler looking for a special place, great hosts and incredible experience.
Stayed in the gite at La Chabotterie in early July for a short break, we were thoroughly spoilt by Suzanne and Robert who had taken such care to provide us with a lovely place where we could relax and unwind, the gardens are so peaceful and we both had a treatment from Suzanne which was a great end to our holiday. The Jacuzzi was wonderful and very relaxing and we found the gite a great base for exploring the surrounding areas. We would definitely recommend staying here its a perfect place to relax and unwind.
A beautiful tranquil place. Suzanne and Robert are amazing hosts who make you so welcome and do everything to give you the perfect stay. The rooms are spotlessly clean and comfortable. There was champagne chocolates and fruit in our room and we were greeted with tea and cake on arrival! The breakfast was fantastic. Would highly recommend
A gem 💎 of a find. Been to this area many times, and a new discovery. Love that. A beautiful quiet venue, warm and welcoming hosts. The most amazing breakfasts. Can stay here as bed and breakfast or in the gite. Varied and beautiful gardens. Will enjoy another visit as soon as we are able ❤️
