Detailed Reviews
The room was up to high standards, apart from that it was way too hot. With the AC running, and curtains mostly shut, I still had 28C in the evening. I had a room on the sunny side and it was a very sunny day but this was in May so I hesitate to return here for the true summer months.
The swimming pool and sauna was excellent, I was lucky enough to share it with just one more guest. The steam room was closed, at least the door didn’t open.
Breakfast was very good. Scrambled eggs and bacon was served, although fried eggs are even better and their bacon that morning was more fat than meat. The had one of the better levain bread I’ve gotten on a hotel breakfast, but lacked some more full grain bread options
I stayed away from the hotel dinner options.

Nice welcome, great service, good food. A pleasant surprise in the Norwegian mountains. Classic furniture and a great view, smiling staff and good food. Try the sauna on the lake, it was great. The Hotel offers padel, canoe, boats and a lot of sports. We will be back.

We stayed at the gaustablikk resort for two nights. First impressions: You are in the middle of nowhere, you are welcomed by friendly staff, the rooms are all identical and pretty small. But step by step: The resort is really in the middle of nature. So it´s not a good idea to think about going to rjukan for dinner ... so better have dinner at the hotel ... which is an excellent buffet including high quality seafood. we had booked the rooms including dinner, found out on arival that you can also book room and breakfast. But if you like a really excellent buffet: Stay at the resort for dinner! Rooms: Well ... the hallway floor looks like twothousand skiboots used it recently - some modernisation / replacement would be necessary. The rooms are relatively small - double bed, small sofa, small table - not much place to enjoy some sparetime. Bath is even smaller ... but enough. The stay is pricy, and i don´t know if they separate in rooms with a view (gaustatoppen) or not (parking lot / ski mountains). my recommendation: go for the rooms with the gaustatoppen view! what we also liked were the little paths / walkways starting directly at the hotel. In winter they are used for cross coutry skiing, in summer it´s just nice for a nature walk before and / or after dinner. summary: nature retreat, great dinner, rooms have room for improvement.

We received great service from the restaurant and reception! During the day we got engaged on Gaustatoppen. We had dinner at the Blikk Restaurant during the evening. The reseptionist let use the shower facilities, and arranged to drive us home after our dinner.

Brilliant views. Great food. Spectacular nature. Luxurious hotel. The saunas down by the lake are wonderful. There are hundreds of cabins, lodges, and hotels all over this area. Excellent service and employees who speak a passable english.
But what do they do in the winter?

The hotel looks amazing, the layout of the social areas is perfect. We also booked the saunas on the ice, and that was an amazing experience. The service on the hotel was impeccable.
Not a single bad word to say about the hotel. Also great location.

Gaustablikk hoyfjellshotel is situated in one of the best parts of the norwegian mountains, facing the beautiful mountain "Gaustatoppen".
We stayed at Gaustablikk for a weekend last desember, and we know this place from a few visits over the years. The problem is - nothing has changed in Gaustablikk - its the same furniture, curtains and painting as in 1970!
We are sorry, but this is not a hotel but more like a worn-out mountainlodge.

The hotel is about 40 years old, and is a traditional norwegian mountain resort hotel.
The rooms are a bit old, but clean and well maintained. Nice reception/bar/resturant area with fantastic view of the mountain Gaustatoppen.
The staff in the reception were very nice and welcoming. The staff welcoming the guest at breakfast was a bit grumpy.
The breakfast itself is very good with a great variety of food, including "make your own waffels"-service. Didn't try the dinner.
Some of the rooms are facing Gaustatoppen, some are facing the mountains the other way. You can rent boats and canoes. Very nice area around the hotel. The skiarea is just across the road.

We stayed for 1 night at Gaustablikk høyfjellshotell in july because we wanted to go mountain haiking on Gaustatoppen. We had a small appartment located in a separate building close to the hotell. The location was great, close to the mountain and great scenery. The appartment had the right size for two people with a kitchen that was ok equipped. It was also bed sheets included in the price. The room and bathroom took us back to the 70's though, and was clearly needing renovation. The shower floor was so rotten that it felt like you were just about to step through it. Wallpaper coming off and a type of carpet that is very uncomfortably and stingy to walk on. The prize was low, but I would rather pay a bit more to have a better and upgraded standard.
