The Bildeston Crown is a 15th century, former coaching inn set in the Suffolk village of Bildeston, one of the historic “wool towns” and just six miles from Lavenham. Known for its stylish yet relaxed accommodation, the inn has 12 en suite doubles, a 120 seater restaurant, private meeting room, bar area with open fire and a courtyard and terrace for al fresco dining . Food is an integral part of The Bildeston Crown experience and Chef Chris Lee, who owns the business with his wife Hayley, has an excellent reputation for his signature, innovative style. Quality produce, sourced primarily locally, is used when in season and diners can choose from a range of menus: Classics which features regular favourites, Select which changes with the seasons and also perhaps the ultimate dining experience – Chris Lee’s Tasting Menu.

The Crown is a beautiful building in a pretty village. We took our son and family for lunch - our table was by a roaring fire - very cosy. We were served a plate of wonderful home made breads and the best huge olives I’ve ever tasted. We all chose the Sunday roast Which was delicious, my son has celiac disease and the chef prepared a perfect gluten free meal, including to my sons delight apple crumble! The service was impeccable, efficient and friendly. We shall be returning soon.

My husband and I have been visiting this wonderful place for years. The food is consistently excellent, the bedrooms gorgeous, and the team always provide a lovely warm welcome. We visited for the third time this year in Sept 2020, staying for two nights. and took along our new puppy, knowing that it is a ‘dog friendly’ kind of place. We couldn’t have had a warmer welcome. We were able to bring our puppy along with us for dinner in the bar (not the restaurant, but the bar is just as nice). It was no trouble at all being let out at 0400 for a puppy night time wee (shout out to Sylvie the night porter!), and I’m not sure the puppy has ever had more cuddles. Can’t wait to be back again!

We spent a week in Bildeston and visited the Crown almost every evening. Mostly we just stopped in for an evening drink - the bar is nice, there's a nice range of beers and I'm told the house white wine is excellent. Had dinner on the Tuesday evening. The service at the Crown is really spot on and the food arrived without the sort of delay that all diners hate. Fish & chips, steak and a tortellini all perfectly cooked and delicious. Almost all the starters are highly recommended and the chips are fantastic. If you're lucky enough to get some decent weather, you can do worse than sit out in the courtyard or the nice but small garden area. More of a restaurant with a bar than an actual pub I'd say but a cracking find nevertheless.

Beautiful setting, friendly attentive staff. Felt very covid safe one of the few places that I've been that actualy use the track and trace system. The food was disappointing, not the standard I would expect for a 3 rosette restraunt. Fruit pastels at the end of the meal where not set properly and the coffee was very very bitter, I finished neither. £19 for a sunday roast I would expect to receive sirloin not rump that was difficult to cut and rather tough. For the price I would give this a swerve, although the staff where great, the cooking was not.
