Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Went to a surprise birthday for a friend and have to say I am totally stunned by what happened. We arrived as planned but unfortunately due to no fault of the organisers a few members of the party did not turn up, instead of having a quiet word the owner thought that it was fair to come to our table and have a moan at us despite half of us not even being imvolved in it. We brushed it off as wanted to celebrate and have a nice time. It took 40 minutes just for our food order to be taken, when the food arrived it came in stages so some of us had our food a good 7 minutes before the others. We ate our food and then had to wait ages for our table to be cleared which meant we weren't even sure we had time for puddings. However, we did eventually order puddings which was yet another

Visited for two nights during our stay nearby. Pub was very busy on both nights. Staff were extremely helpful, beer reasonably priced and good value food. Baileys cheesecake at the end was to die for.

Great place to stay - we really enjoyed our visit. Staff were lovely - professional, helpful and friendly. The food was very good, both breakfasts and evening meals. A very clean and well organised environment for our first stay away this year. This is a perfect base for exploring the Marches countryside, hills, local gardens, Hay on Wye and more.

After having having the most amazing stay pre covid at the Rhydspence we thought we would re visit now they are open for food and drinks in their beer garden...which I hasten to add is perfect for outdoor dining with the marquees and diligent social distancing. Mark and Lowri are the most accomodating hosts and the food is to die for. Real home cooking, the chicken stuffed with black pudding with a stilton sauce is a dish I have never had but will always go back for. Overall, the Rhydspence is a place for good food, friendly banter and great memories...cant wait to go back.

I arranged to meet friends from Wales for a social evening before their Lockdown. My 2 companions and I arrived there before them and were pleased to hear the pub had two of our favourite local Real Ales on. We ordered two and a half pints but when they arrived they were off. The waitress told us there was nothing wrong with the beer and that everyone else was drinking it but we know the beer well enough to know how good it usually is. She refused to exchange it and said we could have the other one but would have to pay for that as well and refused to give us our money back. We asked to talk to the Landlady who was rude and said' there's the door' As locals we have frequently enjoyed evenings at the pub but won't return. I also appreciate the effort it is to keep pubs

Stopped off for lunch with a work colleague after a morning on the Brecon Beacons. Very nice welcome and strict adherence to the Covid restrictions, A lovely meal, nice coffee and impeccable service, A nice end to a lovely day.. People really need to appreciate the effort it takes to remain viable in these trying times and think hard before posting negative comments (See below!)

Beautiful spot with so much potential for a good time. Needs improvement from management: bad communication, unprofessional behaviour and rudeness. Left after felt so unwelcome and disrespected. Visited only the pub and left after finished my drink.

Really friendly staff, very dog friendly and lovely food, stopping in a local cottage and have visited twice in a week, the first time we sat in the gorgeous beer garden which has lovely views and the second time we ate in the bar, I am vegetarian and it was really nice to have a choice of meals which weren't the standard veggie options( veg lasagna, brocolli bake!), think there was a goats cheese and pesto risotto, veg balti, a tart and sweet potato and black bean chilli .I had a veg balti which I really enjoyed and my husband had a steak pie which he really also enjoyed, would definitely go back, staff were really nice and the beer garden and building are worth a visit
