Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We needed somewhere to eat on our way home from South Wales so we pulled in. A fascinating old building, we found our way to the main entrance to a very warm welcome from the host. The people eating seemed to be enjoying themselves. We chose from a respectable menu with a fair range of choices at reasonable prices. My wife chose the scampi, I had the pie. The food arrived in good time, was piping hot and delicious- and generous! I was gong to score it 4 because the hanging baskets were desperately in need of water but decided that was a bit mean. The reception, the food (and the beer) couldn't have been better. Well done!

Booked for two nights and enjoyed a sunny, smart, south facing room, The owners have taken on the continuing challenge of renovating this beautiful medieval hotel and are excellent hosts. A very good breakfast is served in the refurbished restaurant; and dinner can be enjoyed there or in the traditional bar areas. Menu choices excellent and food much enjoyed.

We stayed at The Rhydspence Inn for 1 night. We were made to feel very welcome by hosts and all staff. Enjoyable evening meal with an excellent cheese board. Delicious breakfast, full English with poached eggs cooked to perfection, scrambled egg with smoked salmon very tasty. Rooms were lovely and clean with good toiletries provided, nice large bath towels. However we felt room 3 was in need of a new mattress and room 8 turned out to be noisy with the kitchen fan, this did go off when kitchen closed, but of course started up again early morning, throughout the night there was water pipe noise.

Fabulous old 14th Century country house, great views excellent food.We were in no rush so took our time and re-visited a venue last visited several years ago. Such an atmospheric place. Good selection of ales and a very comprehensive menu of food you would like to eat! As we were only lunching we chose light meals, but hey, tasty! The side salads were fresh, crispy, excellent dressings. Dog friendly in the bar. Lovely staff , very good service. Definitely will call in again.

We have been to the Rhydspence on many occasions for a drink and a chat or for something to eat. We also recommend it to any visitors that we have staying, and they always return singing the praises for the food and the ambience of the place. We have always had fantastic food, friendly helpful staff and the warmest of welcomes from Mark and Lowri.

Held the wake for my mother at The Rhydspence and it was faultless. Fabulous buffet for approx 50 people. hot and cold dishes which kept being replenished as people ate and enjoyed the food. Mark and Lowri were excellent hosts, the staff were attentive and discreet. They did my mother proud, and I would certainly book any future parties there.

I’m staying here on business. I wouldn’t ordinarily choose a hotel like this for work, however as it’s just for one night, thought I’d give it a go. I paid £109 for my room. I was told on arrival breakfast started at 8am. When I said I’d be leaving before they refused do do my breakfast any earlier. It didn’t say on the website I booked re the times they serve breakfast, nor their own website and for what I paid for my room, I feel let down that they’ve refused to do anything about it. The noise coming from the bar below was unbearable and when I asked to be moved, was told they have no other rooms available and had no earplugs when I asked. Irons and ironing boards don’t come as standard in this hotel and the bathroom would still look dated in my dated great
