This is Haltwhistle’s most historic building. The oldest part of the hotel was a Border Reivers' Pele Tower, dating from the 15th Century. Later it became a Manor House, Excise Office, Coaching Inn, Post Office, Temperance Hotel, Pub and Cafe. In 1997 we completely refurbished the building, finding many archaeological and architectural features - many of which have been included in the presentation of the reborn Hotel. The result – a combination of modern comfort & Tradition. We have a total of 12 bedrooms, all individually designed many with original architectural features. All have private bathrooms and are equipped with TV, radio, direct dial telephones, hospitality trays and hair dryers. We have a secure car park at the rear of the hotel with direct access to the rearSo, there is something for everyone, but most of all a warm welcome with a relaxed style and atmosphere to make you feel at home.

Very unique room, ours had a sauna in the it. Staff were so friendly. We brought our dogs and when we had dinner, scraps and leftovers were brought in for them. Food was great and when we had breakfast, the chef brought in sausages for our dogs. Very thoughtful and friendly staff and lovely stay in a fabulous hotel. Thanks!!

Booked onto small group holiday, stayed here for 5 nights. Had room 1, which was very spacious and individual, with large bathroom. Separate lounge available on 1st floor as well. Meals were fantastic- huge helpings of beautifully prepared and presented food. The breakfast menu covered traditional, vegetarian, vegan and continental...so much choice. Highly recommended.

Superb stay, quiet suite, dog friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Breakfast was fresh and delicious and coffee was plentiful (essential!). I come up to Haltwhistle to visit friends and will definitely be booking in here again. Thank you.

Stayed here for two nights. The room was really nice, new bathroom, great shower, pure white towels. Tea, coffee, biscuits etc. Huge bed. T.V. and wifi.

The breakfast is varied, we had the traditional English. If you're not a big eater have the small one. The Garden room is pretty and the dining room is intimate and cosy.

The staff could not be more helpful, getting us train times, later check out if we needed it. All in all a lovely stay for my husband's birthday.

Would we stay again? Definitely.

Staff are fantastic and couldnt do enough for you, very happy with customer service. Breakfast both days was really well done, good variety & replenished often.
Evening meal was a bit pricey so would recommend eating out.
We had one of the lodges, which are pretty small and the bed wasn't the best, but it was nice all in all for a base for exploring Hadrians wall. less than 10minutes drive to Vindolanda, Roman army museum, Housesteads & car parks for Sycamore gap

I arrived in Haltwhistle in the late afternoon without having any accommodation booked. After a couple of unsuccessful attempts to find somewhere to stay, staff at the pub I was at suggested I try The Centre of Britain hotel across the road.

A very pleasant young man at reception said there was a room available (#8, facing the courtyard/parking area. It had a couch, TV and bathroom on the lower level and the bed on a mezzanine floor accessible via a fairly steep staircase. I had a comfortable nights rest and enjoyed the included breakfast. Free on-site parking was a bonus. I’m happy to recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Hadrians Wall or the associated forts and walks.

Booking was by friends who were travelling on a road tour in my vehicle. There is an off street enclosed parking area at rear for guests with rear access to the hotel. This hotel is very tastefully decorated and appointed. We made use of an upstairs residents lounge for part of the evening which was very comfortable. Did not have an evening meal so cannot comment but the reason for eating elsewhere was nothing to do with this hotel - just fancied sampling another establishment. Breakfast was in a lovely room and was good and well served. My double room was very comfortable with a very spacious en-suite. I could see the parking area for my vehicle from my room. The hotel is in the centre of Haltwhistle and it is a very easy walk to shops, fish and chips next door and pubs (some of which have local character). Would definitely stay here again if the occasion arose.

My brother and I arrived at the Centre of Britain Hotel with our bicycles as part of a 3 day trip along the Hadrian's Wall Cycleway.
Kirsty on reception was nothing short of brilliant. Warm, welcoming, efficient and well informed. She made storing our bikes so easy, and also cooked the most amazing dinner later that evening. What a star!
The girls serving were great too, friendly but unobtrusive and efficient. And the food was fantastic.
We had Room 6, out in the coach yard, part of a converted stable block, I think. It was amazing. Brilliantly cozy space, with underfloor bathroom heating and the beds on a little mezzanine floor. Really funky and different.
Breakfast was outstanding. Quality ingredients and perfect service. Again, great professionalism from the staff. The lovely blonde lady in charge that morning (I didn't get her name 😬) was equally helpful in the dining room and helping us again with our bikes, giving us a lovely personalised send off.
In short, an utterly brilliant hotel, hiding its light under a bushel.
We will be back with the first excuse we can get!
Top, top marks on every front.

We stayed here for two nights as part of our holiday walking along Hadrian's Wall. Our room was above a shop a couple of doors along from the main Hotel. The accommodation was spacious, clean and functional.
The highlight of the stay was the generous and delicious breakfast and dinner. The host was very friendly and gave helpful information and suggestion's about the best places to visit along the wall.

Clean and very spacious rooms. I found the beds and pillows really comfortable. Staff were incredibly helpful and attentive and helped with every question and request we had. Lots of choice at breakfast and the portion sizes were very good.
