Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A wonderful, cozy B&B. Mark and Aby are superlative hosts - very helpful and welcoming. Breakfast was a particular highlight (do NOT skip the Mexican porridge - it more than lives up to previous glowing reviews!). Location is perfect for exploring Tarbert. Be advised - rooms at the front overlook a working harbor, but the double glazing works very well at minimizing noise. We're looking forward to staying here again in future.

Absolutely the best! My partner and I stayed here for 2 nights and couldn't recommend the place more highly! We were doing a bit of a cycle trip and Mark had no problems with us bringing the bikes inside for safe keeping. The room was really well decorated and had a great view of the habour. The beds were so comfortable and everything was super clean. Its obvious they really care about the place as there's so many nice extras, like fresh milk, nice scents, local paintings ect. Breakfast was amazing, particularity liked the Mexican Porridge. We were coming late off a ferry one night and Mark stayed up to let us in (as we hadn't taken our room key) even though it was close to 11pm which I thought was really accommodating. Nothing seemed like too much trouble for them. To finish it off Aby and Mark gave us a delicious slice of cake as we checked out which was well needed on the ride back home!

Excellent B&B on the harbourside, 2 minutes from the ferry terminal to Portavadie. We were cycling. Marc and Aby were very welcoming and didn't mind storing our bikes in the breakfast room. Nice touches like fresh milk for tea and chilled water. We had a private bathroom, not en suite but bath robes were provided. Breakfast was delicious: no dried out buffet here! The perfect place to rest after a hard day's cycling.

Struan House was very cozy and welcoming. Our hosts were friendly and accommodating and made a delicious breakfast. Our room was comfortable with all of the necessities, plus a TV we never used because the surroundings were so pretty. The house has a great view of the harbor and was within easy walking distance of many stores and sights in Tarbert.

We stayed for a night here in April. We were waiting for the ferry on the slipway at Portavadie and realised that we wouldn’t make the last ferry to Lochranza, so made a booking on Booking.com to stay at Struan House, intending to arrive about one hour later. Mark, the owner phoned me a matter of minutes later to check that we were coming to Tarbert, Loch Fyne and not to the other Tarbert (on the Isle of Harris). We were heading for the correct Tarbert, but it was a thoughtful gesture, as many tourists could get confused and end up in the wrong village, on an island: with a hotel booking 6.5 hours drive, plus a ferry ride, away. The B&B is right by the harbour side. Tarbert is quite small, so it isn’t far to walk to any part of the town. There are some good restaurants in Tarbert. We were in a very comfortable room facing over the harbour and bay, with an en suite shower room/toilet. The room was clean and well decorated. The bed was comfortable, with good pillows, duvet and mattress, toiletries were good quality and we had plenty of hot water for showering. Tea/coffee making facilities and biscuits were available in the room. Breakfast was superb. Mexican porridge (think porridge with honey and the spices of a chai latte), followed by a great selection of hot items for a full Scottish breakfast, including homemade potato rösti. Everything was cooked to order and high quality. A selection of other cereals was also available. There was homemade jam and marmalade on the table. The marmalade was particularly good. Mark has worked in catering and it shows in the quality of the food. The breakfast room is bright and quirky, and comfortable. Mark and Aby were excellent hosts, ensuring that we wanted for nothing. They took the chance to engage with us, chatting and sharing experiences. They were also knowledgeable about Scotland, giving directions and recommendations to other tourists. We hope to make a short trip later in the summer to explore further up the west coast and, if possible, we’ll use Struan House as our base for this.

Made us feel very welcome from the start. Helped us get an evening meal by booking a table at a local restraunt. Spacious and clean room with lovely view of the harbour and fresh milk for our coffee!! Mexican porridge to start breakfast a must. Delicious, as was the home made jam and marmalade. Highly recommend!

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Struan House. Marc and Aby made my stay just perfect. There is plenty of roadside parking on the quiet Harbour Road. A 100m walk into the village where there are a dew restaurants and bars. The single ensuite room was very comfortable, and the large shower was extremely good. Breakfasts were amazing, freshly cooked, and good conversation with the wonderful hosts. Recommended.

I loved staying here. We received such a warm welcome from Mark when we arrived. The rooms are gorgeous with lots of lovely personal touches. I had a very comfortable nights sleep even although I wanted to stay up late appreciating the beautiful harbour view. The breakfast was exceptional. Fresh fruits, yoghurts, full Scottish and that’s all after the house speciality Mexican porridge. Strongly recommend.

Struan House B&B is a lovely place to stay in Tarbert with beautiful views of the town and harbour. They helped us out with a room when we were struck trying to get home from Islay! A friendly welcome, hearty food and a warm cosy bed. Thanks v. much!

This was a stopover on our cycling route along the Great Glen Way and it ticked all the boxes. Extra-warm, friendly welcome from Mark and Aby. So reassuring to know our bikes could be stored safely within the house. Clean, comfortable room. Aby's Mexican porridge was the best porridge I've ever had - I've tried to copy it at home every week since our stay! And when forgetful me left behind a jumper, Mark quickly posted it back to me - and wouldn't even take the P&P money. How kind. Many thanks all round for a great stay.
