Stonefield Castle Hotel is an outstanding example of Scottish baronial architecture. Built in 1837, the Castle stands high on the famous Kintyre peninsula, commanding spectacular panoramic views over Loch Fyne. In keeping with its unique location and character, many of the original period furnishings have been retained to complement the timeless ambience that is Stonefield Castle. Guests can relax in the traditional elegance of wood panelled lounges with fine corniced ceilings, unwind on leisurely walks through the sixty acres of woodland grounds, or simply enjoy a leisurely pace of life far removed from the stress of city living.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Loved the whole place. Not modern and flash but we loved the stately decor of days gone by along with modern facilities. The view from the Dining Room window is amazing. Staff friendly and helpful. Room was comfortable and again with a great view. Will return again.

Really welding and friendly hotel, nothing was too much trouble. Comfortable and clean room. We had dinner in the bar area with friends as it was dog friendly. Great for dogs socialising. Breakfast was lovely The grounds had great walks for the dog, the trip to the island when the tide was out was a dream come true for Jett.

We arrived at the Stonefield Castle Hotel at 11pm after an awful 24 hours of delay-ridden travel; the warm service and comfort we were met with more than cheered up our weary group. We were shown to our comfortable rooms and informed that the hotel whisky bar would be kept open late solely for our benefit. After a very long day we were able to enjoy a lovely nightcap, and excellent conversation with the two fellows on duty who treated us like friends, before retiring to our cozy rooms.

We stayed here 23 years ago when we got married in Lochgilphead— and decided to return. Happy to report that it’s just as charming now as it was then. The staff is gracious and friendly. The living rooms downstairs are cozy places to hang out and read. The numerous fireplaces are lit on chilly days, and the darling bar is well-stocked with many whiskies. The dining room has stunning views over Loch Fyne; it’s where breakfast is served. It also is the best place around for dinner, so we ate there all three nights. It’s a place in the country, so put away expectations of flawless decor; it’s well-lived in. But it’s the warmth and charm of this place that matters most! While we were there, they won Scotland’s Best Castle Hotel award for the fourth year in a row. Tio #1. Like seemingly all Scottish hotels, dogs are allowed. There were lots of dogs staying. If you are allergic, I think you can request a dog-free room. Tip #2. Get a room with a Loch view. Totally worth it. Tip # 3. We were midway through a long vacation and needed to do laundry. The hotel has no laundry service, so we found a great self-serve launderette 2 miles away in Tarbert. It’s next to the main harbor office. Costs just 4.50 to wash, 2 to dry. Nice, clean little facility.

As a lone traveller who was staying in Tarbert to get the ferry on 17th, the only restaruant in Tarbert was full. The alternative being a chippy- I went exploring and found the Stonefield Castle Hotel. There were a lot of cars outside sdo I was not thatb hopeful. Success- the staff were truly great, foubnd mr a window table in the restaurant- stunning views and dinner- Great Langustine, salmon fillet, ice cream and coffee. A bit thank you to everyone at the Stonefield and nexct time I'll stay there.

Second visit to this wonderful wee gem. Before I start, know this, it's a wee bit tired. It is also however very clean, staffed by people who quite clearly take pride in their castle hotel, the rooms are very comfortable, the food is absolutely tremendous, the setting is wonderful and the views from the dinning room are quite frankly absurdly jaw dropping. The gardens in summer are also quite magnificent. The sitting rooms downstairs take you back to a time when the world was just a bit of a better place and the ambience of the place is pretty hard to describe.....in a good way. I've been very blessed to have been to many amazing places in my life and fortunate enough to have stayed in many lovely places and this, on paper should not figure.....but we don't live our lives on paper and the Je Ne Sais quoi of Stonefield makes it my favorite place, it really does. Particular shout outs to Issac and the Aussie lad at dinner. The reception lady (Italian?) and the lad from Ayr who showed us to our room. All of the staff are an absolute credit th the hotel. If you are of a "Flash Harry/Flash Harriet" disposition, probably best pass on this place. It's really special and only really for people who "just know" :)

We so enjoyed reading your comments. We've been debating between ourselves lately over the special ingredient that makes Stonefield work and appeal to such a broad spectrum of guests from all over the world. As you said, we're not glitzy or in any way flash but we too think there's something very special about our old castle. We also came up with the answer Je Ne Sais Quoi or as Marica, the young lady you mentioned, said,Non so cosa, exactly the same meaning in Italian. It just works! Hope to see you back in Bonnie Argyll sometime in the future

We had a wonderful experience staying at this stunning castle! We loved the ambience, the bar, the views from the dining room, the dinner, the breakfast, the grounds ! The staff , as has been often mentioned in previous reviews were so friendly and engaging. Special mention to Isaac for his bar service and morning service, to Marica for the pack of cards and to Grady who we hoping will be appearing at the Edinburgh Fringe soon on account of his sense of humour! Would love to visit again!

Exceptional. This is a lovely hotel in a quiet location with fabulous views over the loch. Our room was beautifully decorated with a comfortable bed and high quality linens. There was a large shower room and this was the one and only little disappointment- I love to soak in a bath after a day walking so I would make a plea to the owners to retain at least one bath as they renovate the bedrooms. Staff service was first class. Every single member of staff went out of their way to be helpful , welcoming and courteous. The food was excellent. We had great seafood at dinner. The brownie was delicious. Breakfast was also delicious with a great choice. The grounds are also beautiful with lovely woodland walks leading down to the loch. The hotel’s USP is its welcome for dogs. There were dog treats on the reception desk and water bowls here and there. Dogs were offered a sausage for breakfast. The dining room is dog free apart from assistance dogs but other dogs can go anywhere else including the bar. We had a wonderful stay and would definitely visit again. Next time I will book well in advance in the hope of securing a room with a bath.

Everything about this castle hotel was completely on point. The room, the location, the food, the staff and the overall ambiance was just sublime. It was pure escapism at its very best. We stayed in a principle room that was beyond all our expectations. We have travelled extensively and I can honestly say it doesn't get better than this. I would thoroughly recommend anyone to stay here and soak up all that it has to offer. Absolutely stunning in every regard. Thank you to all at stonefield castle, it is a very special, romantic and fascinating place to stay. The island opposite the castle which you can access is an adventure in itself and the walk to nearby tarbert was just beautiful. Go and experience a Scottish castle at it's very best and lose yourself in all that it brings. Johnny and Natasha

Got to be one of the best hotels I’ve stayed in. Staff were amazing from start to finish, beautiful interior, food was fantastic, dog friendly with great walks onsite. Dinner & Breakfast were both delicious. Staff couldn’t have been any friendlier, even took out bags to the room and showed us inside to make sure we were happy. Loved it, hopefully be back sometime soon.
