an absolute delight staying home- our host couldn't have been more welcoming and attentive. So many extra little personal touches such as extra hair appliances, lovely fluffy dressing gowns for us both. The bathroom had also the toiletries requires and both rooms were so beautifully decorated.. breakfast was perfect- and our host attended to our every need- she prepared a beautiful fruit yoghurt with strawberries and blue berries, as well as us both having a delicious vegetarian breakfast - nothing was too much trouble- lots of information about local area too in our rooms, as well as our host giving us some useful tips and directions

This was my third stay at Gwynfa and it was pleasing to find that the host Beryl is maintaining her very high standards. The standard of cleanliness is impeccable with an attention to detail which ensures that all guest needs are catered for. The breakfasts are excellent with god quality ingredients and will be tweaked to meet the needs of guests. It is located close to the centre of Porthmadog and is very convenient for the local preserved railways which are 10 minutes walk away. But the real star of this B&B is Beryl whose caring nature ensures that it feels like home from home.

Like a lot of other people I recently took advantage of the good weather and went to North Wales . I aimed for Porthmadog as I intended to visit its three railways and nearby coastline and managed to find accommodation at this delightful B&B.
Beryl ( The Co Owner ) greeted my “ cold call “ with a friendly smile and I booked in for a few days.
The Family Room I had for three nights was of a good size , very well appointed and spotlessly clean. The Bathroom was kitted out to a very high standard and the breakfast I was offered each day was both large and varied.
I swapped to the other room a Twin for day four and although smaller it was equally well appointed and spotlessly maintained.
Beryl took time to enquire as to my plans each day and offered a wealth of insight into the area pointing out the places to aim for and those to give a miss to.
I very rarely do anything on the spur of the moment and having Gwynfa in Porthmadog as a base made the break.
Highly recommended , 10/10.

Whilst seeking B&B accommodation in Porthmadog North Wales, I had the fortunate opportunity to make contact with Mrs Beryl Barwell who ownes and operates the GWYNA B&B, Penamser Road, Gwynedd LL49 9NY Mobile No 07581314484 E-Mail b.barwell@yahoo.co.uk
This indeed was the best B&B I have stayed in during my 80yrs Life Time. The room out performed many of the 5* Hotels that I have stayed in. It was very homely, Extremely Clean, Beautifully furnished with every luxury amenity that you could wish for.
The food was very well presented in a lovely and very clean dining room cooked to perfection and plentiful in content.
I have no hesitation in recommending this accommodation which quite possibly is the best B&B in Porthmadog at 2024.
Beryl is defiantly the “Hostess with the Mostess” and her husband is also a very nice and considerate gentleman.
My kindest Regards goes to Beryl and Her Husband Barry, along with my sincere thanks for there friendship and compassion that was shown to my partner Tessie and my self during our stay with them in June 2024, Tony, Lord Lewis. There is also “off road” car parking right outside the premises and it is very easy to find being situated right opposite the Aldi Supermarket!.

The welcome was warm, room was well stocked (fridge provided) and Aldi/Lidl across the road with Tesco in town. Loads of space in the room (double bed with a single), large bathroom and beautiful Welsh wool blankets were on the beds in addition to duvets to give a wonderful cosy and local feel.
Beautiful Welsh breakfast every morning (with help yourself cereal option). Partner had full Welsh and I had vegan alternative. All was beautifully cooked and soy milk provided for me (advance notice was given of my dietary preference). Nothing was too much, Beryl just wanted us to have a lovely time and enjoy our stay. Beryl was a joy to discuss the day and local events with prior to departing on our adventures.
Port Meirion and Black Rock Beach are only a couple of miles walk (or short drive) away. Loads of nice eateries and pubs within walking distance of property. I cannot recommend this BnB highly enough.

Absolutely fantastic experience at B&B GWYNFA in Porthmadog! We arrived unannounced, ringing the doorbell in search of a one-night stay with our dog, and ended up staying three wonderful nights. The room was delightfully quirky, filled with charming nic nacs that added a personal and intriguing touch. Every convenience was provided, from a private bathroom and toilet to thoughtful amenities like a hair dryer, body lotion, and even a face mask. They didn't forget about our furry friend either, with a doggie water bowl ready and waiting. The breakfast was simply delicious and generously portioned, setting us up perfectly for each day's adventures. There is free parking up front, a supermarket across the street and it’s a short walk to the city center and harbour. Highly recommend this gem for a cozy and memorable stay!

This is a B&B of the kind I learned to know back in the 1970s, very British and very nice. Such real B&Bs are increasingly hard to come by nowadays. Search for B&B on the internet, and many more hotels than real B&Bs pop up. Gwynfa, though, is a real old-fashioned B&B, occupying half the landlady's house. The unique charm of a real B&B comes as a huge bonus added to excellent standard and quality. Many kinds of breakfast are available, even vegan, but of course we went for the Full Welsh, which couldn't have been better. The landlady even had the courtesy specificly to ask whether we wanted the blackpudding or not. The landlady, Beryl Barwell, is most friendly, perfectly balancing small talk against the guests' need for privacy. It was quite an experience to hear her speak her native Welsh in the telephone and to locals. And who would expect to get a hug and a kiss from a B&B landlady upon departure? Porthmadog is not a big place, but still Gynfa's central location counts – in a quiet road close to High Street with its pubs, restaurants and shops, and almost as close to the departure station for the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Heritage Railway, which no-one should miss. Name any feature, and I would rate Gwynfa «excellent».

Last minute trip to Wales and found this little gem!! Needed a b&b close to what we wanted to do and dog friendly, lucky enough to be able to stay here, and Beryl was a perfect host, went over and above for us. Not only made us feel instantly welcomed to her place, but we felt as if we were going home to visit family. This beautiful home was peaceful, spacious, and homely. The sort of place you would kick your shoes off and sit and relax with a cuppa. The bedroom was spotless and spacious. All amenities you would need? Beryl certainly had thought about everything you would need. Plenty of tea/coffee, hair dryer/ hair straightners. Towels, medicine box, slippers and dressing gown. The shower was hot and fantastic pressure of water. Breakfast was hot and filling again we felt spoilt and at home. Beryl was a lovely lady, chatty and knowledgeable of the area, parking is available for 2 cars and safe to leave opposite Aldi and a camping shop. Would definately stay again, felt like I was leaving an Aunty's house. Highly recommend. When saw the reviews and there were loads giving 5/5 then noticed one giving 1/5 thought take no notice as will be one off!! Ignore bad reviews this place is a gem!! Thank you Beryl and Barry of course lovely man. See you again x
