Welcome to Penaber Bed and Breakfast where Gary & Mary's aim is to make your stay as enjoyable, comfortable and relaxed as possible. Penaber is a distinctive detached residence standing in nearly an acre of land; It was built in the 1930s and individually designed by a well known local architect. The house is situated on the Morfa Bychan road a 1/4 of a mile from Porthmadog, it sits in its own grounds with a private driveway for safe off-road parking. Penaber had stood empty for nearly 30 years until we bought it in 2002 and had it fully renovated. The house is ideally situated to reach local attractions and places of interest in the area such as Portmeirion, Mount Snowdon, many Castles, slate and copper mines, zip wires a number of narrow gauge railways, and many golf courses, all of which are too many to mention, and not forgetting the beautiful beaches. Activities can include sailing, water sports, golfing, fishing, rambling, sightseeing or just relaxing. The house is a good central base for all activities and attractions Borth y Gest is located a 10 minute walk from the house it is a pretty harbour village on the shores of the Glaslyn estuary commanding views of both mountains and sea. With easy access onto the Welsh Coastal path The busy seaside town of Porthmadog is a 15 minute walk away, it's on the border of Snowdonia and the Llyn peninsula. Porthmadog has an ample supply of eating places from cafes , pubs to bistros and restaurants, It is also the home of the Purplemoose micro brewery Although having few high street names, Porthmadog is an excellent shopping centre with a huge variety of small, independent, locally owned shops, from book-shops to music shops, where you can find almost anything you need. There is a leisure centre (Canolfan Hamdden Glaslyn) and at Morfa Bychan there is Black Rock Sands, a popular two mile long sandy beach, with views of Harlech and Criccieth castles. Penaber has one twin and two double rooms, all the rooms are en-suite and are tastefully decorated, the house is strictly non-smoking. They have tea and coffee making facilities and a 32 inch television with a dvd player and also free Wi-Fi is available The rooms are priced from £75 per night inclusive of Full Welsh Breakfast depending on seasons. Ideal for long or short stays

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Booked the Penaber off the back of TripAdvisor reviews. So glad we did. Gary & Mary are truly wonderful hosts and so suited to this line of business. On arrival (20th Oct) we were greeted with a sincere warm welcome. Gary very kindly took our bags up to our room. Mary provided us with coffee, with Welsh cakes made by Gary. The Penaber B&B is absolutely SPOTLESS and I mean SPOTLESS!!!!! We had room 2. A very spacious and light room with a super king size bed and mold free en suite. So rare to see nowadays. Breakfast was plentiful. Choice of cereal, coffee or tea. Breakfast was 2 rashers, 2 sausages, mushrooms, tom, baked beans and fried potatoes, toast and OJ. Next day opted for the continental. So glad we did, it too was fantastic. Croissant, ham, cheese, strawbs, grapes, yoghurt, toast, OJ, coffee or tea. The grounds are maintained to a very high standard. If you get a chance, have a look at the photo album outside of room 2 to see the works taken. We cannot speak highly enough of Gary and Mary, they have all the time in the world for you and keen to ensure your stay is as great as great can be. Thank you both and we will definitely be back.

I can honestly say this is the nicest B&B we’ve stayed in, Gary & Mary are such a nice, kind and helpful couple & nothing was too much trouble. We were greeted with tea, coffee & Welsh cakes, our room was fabulous so big & bright with so many wardrobes. Breakfast was the best ever. We were only staying here 2 nights & wished we could have stayed longer. Will definitely return. Thank you

We stayed for a week in September 2023. Penaber is a delightful property within walking distance of both Porthmadog and Borth y Gest. Our room was much larger than many of the b&b's we have stayed at across the country. The whole property is very pleasantly furnished and the breakfasts were absolutely gorgeous. Gary and Mary are excellent hosts and made us feel very much at home. Also Gary makes the most delicious Bara Brith and Mary provided free lessions in Welsh pronunciation We look forward to returning.

Mary & Gary are excellent hosts. They can’t do enough for you. Everything was splendid. A real superb holiday, made extra special by staying here. The breakfasts are out of this world and any request was catered for. We loved Gary’s famous homemade bara brith cake the best in wales. We are looking forward to our next visit. Pauline & John

We have just spent a lovely few days at this fantastic b & b. Gary and Mary were the perfect hosts, where nothing was too much trouble. Our room was very airy and light. The bed was extremely comfortable. We enjoyed the full welsh breakfast and the continental breakfast. The Penaber is situated a short walk away from Porthmadog and within easy driving distance of Snowdon, Port Merion and the Isle of Anglesey We would certainly return for another relaxing break. This guesthouse had been recommended to us by friends who loved it so we looked on the website and thought it looked beautiful so we wanted to try it. The house is set in its own well-maintained grounds, and there's plenty of parking. The room we had was fantastic - very large and bright and beautifully furnished. The breakfasts were gorgeous - very well cooked and presented. Gary and Mary who own Penaber B&B are so welcoming and friendly. We would definitely recommend this guesthouse and would love to stay there again.

My wife and I stayed for four nights at Penaber in August. Gary and Mary treated us very well. The house is in a very nice, quiet location, but with easy access to amenities. It’s modern, comfortable, clean and very well looked after. Breakfasts were great.

We had a very nice stay at Penaber for my husbands birthday weekend. We were warmly welcomed with tea and cake on arrival, the rooms were really great and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was very good indeed and very well presented too. Gary and Mary were friendly and helpful and we will definitely go back again.

I copied my google review because I think this place deserved some credit on trip advisor as well! "One of the best places I've ever stayed at while traveling. Great location, big rooms, spotlessly clean everywhere, quiet and very well maintained. There's also a very beautiful garden. The owners were incredibly friendly, welcoming and helpful without invading your privacy."
