As an elderly couple (80) with one suffering severe mobility/accessibility problems, Room 3 proved to be perfect - warm, spacious, with an excellent wet-room. The provision of reserved blue badge parking close to the room was a bonus. The food was excellent with a surprisingly wide ranging dinner menu during a slack time of year - we dined in on five nights out of five and were able to ring the changes across three courses. All staff were friendly and attentive, with outstanding service from Robin. We often stay at rather isolated places but having a town centre hotel with covered parking was a real treat. Although a long way from home in the New Forest we would be keen to stay at the Royal Sportsman or it's sister hotel the Caerwylan at Criccieth - the owners clearl know their business.

Just spent a fabulous three nights at this lovely hotel. Robin, the hotel manager could not have been more accommodating and helpful. The staff are all really friendly, professional and make this place a delight to stay in. The breakfast included in the price is excellent. Don’t expect super luxurious rooms but you will find first rate cleanliness, warm comfortable beds and a good en suite bathroom with a hot shower. The bar and restaurant areas have been tastefully redecorated. There is free undercover parking and the hotel is ideally located for tourists in North Wales. I shall be back!

Great and friendly staff. Dining of a high quality, loved the art deco decor. Rooms basic but met our needs as we used the hotel as a base to hike up Snowdonia. Highly recommend the hotel and would consider using again.

Having stayed at the Royal Sportsman on a number of occasions it feels like home from home. The staff are friendly and helpful, the restaurant excellent for both breakfast and dinner coupled with a well stocked bar. The car park can be a bit of a pain when full as one then has to drive around local streets to find a space to park. A deal with Tesco to use their car park would be ideal but such does not exist at present. A downside for some would be the lack of a lift so make sure you book a courtyard room - everything eaisily accessible at ground level.

Room Tip: Beware the car park - it fills quickly and then you are at the mercy of local roads.

Thank you so much for your lovely review. It's always a pleasure having you to stay and we're delighted you feel like we're a home from home. Parking in our car park in the height of the season can occasionally be difficult as you pointed out, but there is very rarely a problem finding free parking on the nearby streets. Tesco do offer parking through the YourParkingSpace app and there is always the pay and display car park about 300 metres away. We have specific requests from guests for all our rooms - some guests like a quiet room, some like to be on the top floor, some like to overlook the high street and some like to be in the courtyard. We always endeavour to match the correct room with the guests' specific needs. Our courtyard rooms do indeed make everything accessible at ground level. We look forward to seeing you again in a couple of weeks.

A very friendly hotel and the food was excellent with a varied menu our room although said to be refurbished but quite small. Our stay was unfortunately cut short due to ill health and the management were very caring about our difficulties and allowed us to leave early without financial penalty A touring hotel to be recommended.

Many thanks for taking the time to review your stay with us. We're glad you enjoyed your stay, albeit cut short. We hope your wife is now on the mend. You were in standard, refurbished double rooms but unfortunately, due to the age of our building, there's not a lot we can do about the size of the rooms. Should you decide to stay with us again, may we suggest you opt for our large doubles or superior rooms which have also been refurbished and are very much bigger. We look forward to welcoming you again when you next plan a visit to Porthmadog.

We stayed at the Royal Sportsman Hotel for 2 nights in room 12. The room was very spacious, clean and comfortable. The food was really good. Plenty of choice at breakfast catering for all needs. We ate in the restaurant on both nights and the food was delicious and good sized portions. Prices are similar to a lot of the local restaurants/cafes. The only very small thing I would mention is the choice of deserts. If you like chocolate/coffee flavoured deserts then that is fine but as I prefer things with fruit in and more plain there wasn't a lot of choice. The alternatives were ice cream or blackberry & apple crumble which was ok but I would have preferred another choice such as vanilla or raspberry cheesecake or fruit salad. Other than that which is only a minor thing, we had a lovely stay and the staff were friendly too. The location is good to get to places like Black Rock sands & Criccieth. We also visited a small slate cavern mine near Harlech which was very interesting. We have stayed at the Royal Sportsman previously about 7 years go. It has changed hands since and been modernised and the bedrooms refurbished. Enjoyed our stay there.
