Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I had to travel to Newtown on business and was looking a cost effective option that allowed me to prepare my own meals (I am a fussy aspiring vegan with occasional lapses for ice cream and cake) . Penygelli met my needs very well. It was clean and comfortable with lots of lovely hot water. It’s quiet and feels very secure. I will stay again

Great little apartment in Mid-Wales, ideal for a work trip or solo / couple travelling. Loved the range of goodies left for breakfast including homemade bread. Good wifi, comfy bed, what more do you need?

Myself and partner stayed at penygelli guest house for 2 nyts in October as we were attending a local party with family who stayed just down the road.

We had an amazing stay. Zoe and phil were pleasant and very warm welcoming.
As this was a dog friendly house, there were 2 lovely dogs who wandered about outside, they were so friendy we could of took them home with us.

The room had 5* standards with king size bed, large tv and sky package.
Sky sports was a great hit for my partner which he enjoyed very much lol.
The room also had separate kitchen and bathroom. Kitchen had all amenities eg. Tea, coffee, sugar, bread, milk, water. Was just that Little extra mile that was excellent.

Would definitely stay here again in the future.

Thanks again to Zoe and phil.

We stayed here as a young couple whilst visiting the area. On arrival both owners were very welcoming and informative. Being just out of the town, the property was secluded and very quiet, whilst only being a mile from the town centre.

We were blown away with our lovely apartment and couldn't have asked for more. I loved the fact there was a complimentary decanter of Port in the room on arrival and my boyfriend was especially pleased with having access to all of the Sky Sports channels.

Having stayed at other places in the area there is nothing that we have found that offers a full studio apartment for this quality and price.

The owners made themselves available to answer any of our questions throughout our stay and we cannot thank them enough. We will definitely be recommending this to family and friends and looking forward to visiting again in the future.

We had a lovely time on our two night stay at Penygelli. The apartment was clean, modern, spacious and we were greeted by towels shaped into swans while in the apartment kitchen was fresh bread, milk and biscuits! The owners Zoe and Phil were very welcoming and accommodating (as were their two lovely dogs). The apartments are dog-friendly - we travelled with our Collie-cross and he loved it!

The location is within walking distance (20 min) of Newtown but also far enough away to feel like you're in the countryside.

Penygelli is a real hidden gem in beautiful Mid Wales.

The suite we stayed in was GORGEOUS, with everything you could conceivably need for a stay away. The bed was huge and extremely comfortable, and the view we woke up to was lovely.

Zoe and Phil couldn't do enough for us and there were some really nice touches in the suite (like fresh bread, butter and milk for a lovely breakfast and full sky and wifi which really works!).

If you're looking for a beautiful retreat with kind and helpful hosts, this is the place. We will definitely be coming back...soon!

As you drive up to the house first impressions are not all that. The house looks nothing like the picture. It looks very scruffy gardens needed cutting fire pit was nothing but a hole in the ground with 2 rotten seats on with broken solar lights on. The bedroom was bright and airy but needed dusting the fireplace and bedside tables were dusty. The equipment in the cupboard were all mismatch. Diff wine glasses no cereal bowls and the utensils were thick with dust. Inside the oven the tray was dirty. The owners were very pleasant and the fresh bread and prosecco was a nice touch but the overall appearance of the place really let's it down.

Oddly enough I was waiting for a review from the both of you as we had already received a review on booking.com. We are sorry that you didn't enjoy your visit with ourselves especially as we knew it was your anniversary and provided you with complimentary prosecco, port and fresh flowers in your room. We also saw you both several times over your weekend break and asked you if everything was ok and you confirmed that everything was great so I was left a little confused by your online review(s) as this was not the impression you gave during your stay. I will try to cover some of your points: 1) House looks nothing like the picture – I was a little confused by this comment. I can only assume that the lick of paint it received this summer, when we changed the house from white to light yellow is where your confusion lay. I will ensure that new images are taken as soon as possible. 2) Scruffy gardens – On booking.com you were a little more specific about this and stated that you didn't like the length of grass - we cut the grass every Sunday as this is a quiet day for guests and doesn't impose on their weekend stay (A ride on lawn mower and strimmer can be quite noisy) So I can only imagine that the grass had grown to a level which was unacceptable to you between the Sunday and the Friday when you checked in. 3) Fire Pit – A traditional fire pit is a hole in the ground and images of this (on our 46 images on booking.com where you booked) does quite clearly show this so I am sorry this came as a surprise. There is modern garden furniture in and around the fire pit, and signs are put in all apartments and a big notice outside your apartment informing guests they could give us a shout if they wish to use the fire pit so we can set this up for them. As it rained for the entire weekend you stayed with us I am unsure whether this comment means that this was a facility you wanted to use? if so, we would have also provided umbrellas upon request. 4) Dusty & No Bowls - I can assure you that the rooms are well cleaned and dusted prior to each visitor’s arrival. I can only imagine that having the windows open or maybe when your dog was tearing up our toilets rolls this created extra dust in the room. If you had let us know about your dust issue we would have been happy to re-dust your apartment for you. Upon reading your review I immediately checked whether there were bowls in your apartment (which there were) If you had mentioned this at any time during your stay (when we had spoken a number of times), or upon your departure I would have been happy to show you where they were, in the cupboard, next to the plates. 5) Mismatching Wine Glasses - Servicing the apartment upon your departure, we noticed that you had decided against using our recycling boxes and so I got the task of sorting through your rubbish for recycling. Upon doing so I noticed that not only had you broken one of the wine glasses and had decided (for whatever reason) to throw away some of our cutlery - this can lead to then a mismatch when things are broken and thrown away by guest and I am often doing full replacements of kitchen equipment. I hope the mismatch in wine glasses didn’t affect your enjoyment of the complimentary prosecco which we provided. 5) Oven tray was dirty and utensils – Unfortunately I cannot comment on this as both the utensils and oven have since been used and we clean each apartment after each guest checks out so I would of liked to of known at the time if there was a cleanliness issue. We have won the luxury apartment award for serviced apartments 2 years in a row and take cleanliness very seriously We appreciate all guests taking the time to review our property and I hope we have covered all of your points. We wish you all the best in your future holiday choices and hope that you find something more suitable in the future. Kind Regards Zoe

A warm welcome and comfortable bed other than that the whole place needs refurbishment. Upon arrival the outside left us feeling we had arrived at the wrong place. The grounds were very untidy and the house delapidated.

Thank you for your review, I am sorry that we did not meet your expectations particularly regarding the outside of the property as both apartments have views over the garden and surrounding welsh hills and has been well received in the past. I am unsure of your comment of "dilapidated" as although the house was built in the 1860's and still has many of the original features, we are always making improvements and upgrading where we can and have won the luxury travel awards for serviced apartments 2 years in a row, a Certificate of Excellence from Tripadvisor and a 9.0 score on booking.com. We pride ourselves on the offering our guests a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere which is often reflected in our review comments so we're pleased to hear that you also received a warm welcome and had a comfortable nights sleep. Kind regards Zoe

Second visit here. Love this place. It's peaceful, scenic views, well equipped kitchen, comfiest bed I've slept in and handy for supermarkets to self cater. That said the hosts are very welcoming and provide a well stocked continental breakfast and all you need to get by. Freshly baked bread and scones, the little extras are super, drinks, milk and juice in fridge. Love this place. Thank you.
