We stayed for a week in a top floor ocean view room. Ours didn’t have a balcony, so I would recommend getting a room that does because it would have been nice to relax and hang wet towels/clothes. The rooms are simple, clean, and beautiful with ceiling fans and AC (although we barely needed the AC). The housekeeping was excellent and the staff went the extra mile to make me feel very special for my birthday by decorating the bed and leaving a sweet note.
Service of nice loungers right on the beach, big beach towels, and a great bar right on the property was perfect. We were given a free welcome drink and I chose a nonalcoholic mango juice that was beyond delicious! There were non pushy beach vendors who I bought fruit and snacks from every day and the location was perfect for us. Very close to town but not noisy at all.
It was our first time in Holbox and definitely won’t be our last! We loved biking around to the beautiful beaches and hanging out in the town square watching the locals play volleyball and soccer. The al pastor tacos near the center were amazing as well as the fresh churros.
We opted to pay for the full transfer service from Cancun and were very impressed with how efficient and seamless it was. I would highly recommend this hotel for couples who want the beach access that is also close to the action of the town. Rent a beach cruiser and enjoy your stay in paradise!

We just got back from 8 days staying at La Palapa. This was a return trip to Holbox and we decided to give La Palapa a try after reading reviews. We were so glad we did. The property itself is in a great location and so well taken care of but to us what really made it special were the people working there and the other guests we met. We had a storm one night and had dinner in the restaurant which was closed up to keep out wind and rain. The staff there kept the restaurant open late and gave us all a drink! Sergi, Fecundo and the other staff working in the restaurant were kind and attentive throughout our stay. The food was excellent.....the Motulenos and Fish Nachos are amazing. The front desk staff also took good care of us. Issus at the front desk was always smiling as well as others whose names we did not get. Basically - we didn't have one unpleasant encounter there. Last year, we didn't have opportunities to interact with any other guests at the hotel- this year we met several other wonderful folks traveling . When a storm blew in a mess of seaweed, staff worked tirelessly to clean up the beach as much as possible. We just were so impressed by the care given to the hotel and it's guests.
My only word of caution- the location is right in town so night life thumping music does amp up especially on weekends.

We just got back from 5 nights at Beachfront Hotel La Palapa. The rooms are small and simple but very clean and the staff does a wonderful job of maintaining the property overall. The location adjacent to the main square is ideal as you can get to all of the great restaurants within a five minute walk. The restaurant serves a tasty and convenient breakfast and pours decent cocktails in the afternoon.
Please do not misconstrue my 4/5 rating (I do not think 5/5 stars should be achieved as easily as other reviewers on this app seemingly do). We visited almost every other hotel on the island and where this hotel falls a little short compared to the other (more expensive) options are in a couple of areas: 1) the small beach gets hammered by seaweed and when the tide is high, it becomes a problem. They do their best to alleviate this problem but I think that management should consider making a significant investment to somehow improving the beach are 2) lack of a second restaurant/bar option. They should consider installing something on the underutilized (beautiful) roof deck. It would be perfect for sunset.
Listen, I understand that the value here is in the location and being a less expensive option than some of the other hotels. That said, I wanted to share my honest opinion about how they could elevate this hotel and perhaps charge closer to what they do at the other hotels with more amenities.
Overall, awesome stay and would return. Holbox is quite the getaway. Some of our favorite bars/restaurants were Big Fish, Roots, Luuma, Salma (looks like a scene out of The Beach), Arena Bar, and Coquitos for lunch.

We appreciate the advice, everything that makes us better is more than welcome; but speaking about it, there are some federal laws regarding the seaweed that keeps us from doing much, mostly because is federal territory, though we try to do our best, as for the roof top we've been considering opening up a second bar up there during sunset so thank you for supporting that! We spent 3 peaceful and amazing days on Holbox Island at Beachfront Hotel La Palapa. I did quite a bit of research before going and decided on this hotel. I am very happy I didn't pay attention to some of the negative reviews as I found the property to be in a privileged location with beautiful views, comfortable rooms, good amenities, and an outstanding group of people with great customer service skills. Our room was a large beachfront balcony room with 2 beds and a nice size bathroom with nice locally made products provided (soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion). The beds were on the smaller size specially for tall people like my husband and a little firm but nowhere near "Thailand-FIRM" so not a deal breaker. The included breakfast was amazing and you had so many options to choose from (from local to healthy to European) and including delicious fruit juices. Speaking of juices, the drinks made at their bar were just WOW...pricey but sooooo amazing and worth every penny particularly the passionfruit ones. As I said, the service was excellent, we were made to feel welcome from pre-arrival communication with front desk to always being acknowledged by restaurant and bar staff (they were wonderful...Henry I believe was our regular waiter). One morning we were waited on by the Restaurant and Bar area manager, a native of Barcelona, and got to talk to him. He was super friendly and courteous and has an obvious wonderful rapport with his staff with whom he works side by side with. We absolutely loved every minute of our stay and were already planning our return the day we left the island!

We had been planning this trip for at least two years. Ever since a coworker mentioned Isla Holbox we couldn't get the island out of our heads; and every time we did research on where to stay, we always came back to Hotel La Palapa. And we're so thrilled we did! Right off the bat, the staff were extremely communicative. We received several lengthy emails describing in detail what to expect, what pertinent information we'd need to know, how we'd be traveling to and from the hotel, etc. When we reached out with questions, they responded swiftly and with the same level of detail (attention to detail being recurring theme throughout our stay). We chose to have the hotel set up our transportation and boy are we glad we did. Despite flights being combined, times changing, and the unpredictable nature of customs, immigration, and baggage claim, our driver was waiting right where he was supposed to, with a clearly marked sign, and he whisked us to Chiquila right on time for the ferry. Once on the island, a taxista was waiting with another sign to take us the short drive to the hotel. When we arrived, road-weary and jet lagged after nearly 13 hours of travel (Holbox is worth it!), Hotel La Palapa welcomed us with open arms and we were made to feel so comfortable and relaxed within mere minutes of arriving. The hotel itself is gorgeous, with constant cooling breezes, gentle crashing waves, and unobscured views of the stunning water right outside our doorstep. The pictures we saw couldn't prepare us for how stunningly beautiful this place is; it oozes character, and couldn't be more charmingly designed or better maintained, yet it was comfortably laid back, and exceeded every expectation. Every day spent at the hotel was well spent; every meal eaten at the beach bar was shockingly gourmet, every drink refreshing and strong, and every staff member exceptionally friendly and accomodating. Our room was stunning and simple, with a gorgeous ocean view that was so close to the water we could practically touch it; the bed was wonderfully comfortable and the room was cleaned to such a high standard everyday we almost felt badly for walking in and messing it again. Nothing was overlooked, no detail was too small at Hotel La Palapa; everyone there seemed to really care and it showed. We can't leave this review without a personal shoutout to Augustine, Enrique and Sergio, for providing such incredible service with a smile every day at the beach bar and restaurant, as well as every other employee we interacted with. Everyone at La Palapa was kind, thoughtful, and friendly, and worked tirelessly to ensure a perfectly relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable stay. This review is very long, and if anyone reads it, we applaud you; if you haven't, take away this: Hotel La Palapa is worth it, in every aspect. It is, without a doubt, the best hotel in Holbox. The staff at La Palapa was lovely and always went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. The room was simple but clean, and of course had a lovely ocean view. The food and drinks from the adjacent small restaurant were terrific. Only a couple of issues - on Saturday night nearby bars played loud music until 4:30 in the am. This wouldn't keep us from returning, but we wouldn't stay there on a weekend. And don't shower at the same time as the rest of the guests getting ready to clean up from the beach and head to dinner - water would get cold at that time. I just adjusted my own showering schedule. Other than that, really a lovely deal on a beautiful island with great bird life and turquoise blue ocean to gaze out upon.

This was my second time to Holbox after a year + due to COVID. And of course decided to book LaPalapa again!
This time my stay was for 7 days, all which were amazing. You can’t possibly go wrong w this hotel. From greeting you once you arrive, to all the hotel staff which are super friendly and greet you with a smile every time you cross them on the hotel grounds.
Beach is amazing and seaweed free, the bar/restaurant is great at anything you order here, from breakfast to drinks to snacks. Few tables at the location, so try to be there early!
Rooms are always clean and spotless, AC worked flawlessly. The water pressure and sometimes hot water can be an issue, but we’re on a small island. These things happen. No TV in theses rooms, but why would you want one if you have paradise at steps from your hotel room?
Internet and WiFi are the biggest issue on this island , no matter where your go. Make a note of it, you won’t be posting any videos on your gram here. It just doesn’t work. Pics, maybe, and with delays.
Please be aware that the mosquitoes here are ruthless, they attack early mornings and just about sundown (also after a rainstorm) PLEASE be prepared, Off! Deep Woods is ideal.
You got a major bonus here, the restaurant next door, Las Panchas. Great seafood everyday, just go. ( I think they are closed on Mondays) Also downtown Holbox is just 5 minutes away. Bring cash since most places don’t accept credit cards.
This hotel is great, it’s the closest to the beach and downtown Holbox, great sunsets from here too! Don’t miss them!
Remember this is not Cancún, or Miami Beach, this is a very laid back island , to relax and chill. Wake up early and enjoy every second of it.
Don’t come for one night, it won’t be enough, 3 days at the least. There’s so much more to this island. Rent a golf cart, book a boat tour to isla de la pasión. Eat at all the local restaurants, if you see one that’s too fancy, skip it. Small portions and big prices. Small family run restaurants are the real deal here.
So start making your plans to isla Holbox, try to keep it a secret between us and enjoy your stay. And book with no hesitation at LaPalapa!

What a fabulous place! We stayed in a beachfront room on the 2nd floor & the water was literally a stone's throw away! The grounds are meticulously maintained & groomed each morning & the room was spotless. We loved the quiet privacy of this small hotel. No TV's or phones in the rooms - a perfect way to relax & unwind. The balcony includes 2 chairs & a table - great place to have a cocktail, listen to the waves & watch the gorgeous sunset at the end of the day!
A delicious, full breakfast each morning is also included with your stay. And the location can't be beat. You are walking distance to everything! I would highly recommend visiting this little piece of paradise!

We stayed at Beachfront Hotel La Palapa for 6 nights after a 100k race in America so wanted somewhere that was perfect for relaxation and recovery and the hotel ticked all the boxes. We arranged our transfer with them from Cancun airport which was competitively priced and reliable on both journeys. We stayed in a sea view top floor room which was lovely and spacious. The shower was sometimes quite cold but nothing that posed a massive problem, and was probably just down to several people in the hotel showering at the same time.
The location is perfect and right in the beach and just a few minutes away from all the main restaurants in the village. We only had breakfast at the hotel once (it’s not included in the price, but you get a 10% discount if you’re staying in the hotel) as the choice was quite limited for vegetarians but that’s a minor criticism as there were some great breakfast choices in Holbox.
The staff were wonderful and couldn’t have been more helpful. We’d highly recommend Beachfront La Palapa for a perfect stay in Holbox.

The food at the Bar is at a gourmet level. The service is also very good and attentive. You won't find it in other restaurants in the island where the service is pretty inconsistent. Try the breakfast options that will give you an idea of the quality food you can get. Then be adventurous and try the dishes they offer for lunch, the food is Mexican with a twist of international taste. Chef Mario and his staff are an amazing crew. If you reserve a room make sure that you include breakfast since it is totally worth it the money, you can enjoy your breakfast at the beach avoiding the long lines at the few restaurants that offer breakfast in the town. The hotel is very clean. The staff is always ready to help you with a big smile. The hotel is in a central location where you can have an easy walk to bars and restaurants this characteristic makes it also not very quite. It is a small beach front hotel meaning that the beach is very small, not the best you can get in the area. The hotel is perfect for couples, Friends or Solo travelers. My recommendation is enjoy the cleanness that the hotel has to offer, the amazing food and drinks at the bar, the central location but take your every day walks discovering other good beach spots that the island has to offer.

There are no pets allowed at the hotel. The island discourages dogs/ pets to help preserve the island. With that being said, the Isla does have it's " stray" dogs that roam.
There are more places to choose from in the Holbox Island area.
