I was suckered in by the idea of a few cool nights sleep, however the AC is set at 27c or 80F, so it's actually much cooler outside with a lower temperature and a breeze. I guess if you sleep outside, you miss the smell of 6 people sleeping in a tiny unventilated room with a heater on in Costa Rica. The first night nobody was around to turn down the AC, even the security guard was missing. The next day, I asked very nicely if they could turn it down, but they just said yes and did absolutely nothing about it, so night 2 sucked as well. Stay somewhere else so you aren't disappointed.

Great place to stay at. It was in a good location and close to good surf spots. Good walking distance to restaurant, bank, stores. The people that worked there were really cool and recommended surf spots.

The first thing you notice is the welcoming managers Josephina and Vanessa that takes care of you during your stay. They fast become your friends and help you out in everything from calling a taxi to managing excursions and shuttle service etc. Don't know something - ask these wonderful ladies. The hostel is in a very good location - close to shop, restaurants, cafes and most important to the beach. It's possible to rent a surf-board and also arrange surf lessons if needed. Each morning you get freshly baked pancakes with fruits, but if want something else, the kitchen is fully equipped so you can prepare your own meal. Only distraction could be the dust from the road, but it's the magic of Santa Teresa you can't escape if you want to travel there. Rooms were cleaned each day, but if you don't take care and come with sandy shoes in the room, of course, it's going to get dirty fast. Anyway, would definitely recommend this place for solo travellers, backpackers, couples and friends who want to enjoy a great atmosphere. For me, few days stay turned out in two weeks because of the people I met and place itself.

Great staff, location, and accommodations. Can’t be beat! Stayed in private dorm and the hostel had A/C, surf boards to rent, and connections with all local companies to book anything else you can imagine. The staff is extremely helpful and always available when you need them. One of my best hostel experiences.

A mate and I spent 4 days in Santa Teresa/Playa Carmen and had a blast surfing, yoga, eating and drinking our way through the beautiful sunsets. The only downside of this hostel is it's at the south of the town so a fair walk to SOME of the nightlife. But its fun, free breakfasts are pretty good, the beach is close, board rentals and surf lessons with Micky really really good (i'm intermediate and have never had a surf teacher with so much experience, enthusiasm and who really observes and helps you get better - really passionate and fun guy!). `Vanessa was really helpful, thank you! We stayed in both shared dorm and private room, both great for the price. Security guard all night was good for peace of mind though we never had any hassle in the town.

Micky is the in-house surf instructor and by far the best I’ve had. Even better if you have a car he’ll show you the best spots for your ability around the coast! He also knows every single person in town so always feels like your in good company! Cheers Micky.

I stayed at Dos Monos North (there is two of them in Santa Teresa, north and south) for four nights in a dorm. Dorms are nice with AC and warm water shower and the floor is cleaned every day as the whole hostel is. In addition they serve every morning small breakfest. Kitchen could have one more stove for cooking and they could have signs for people to understand to clean after cooking. Moreover I would personally appreciate if all the trash would be separated and recycled as well as possible. They also rent surf boards for decent price and have surffing lessons.

Amazing location, friendly staff and great environment to meet people. Heading to Costa Rica, you can't expect much, but they definitely exceeded expectations. Santa Theresa will always be a place I dream of returning to.
