We've been visiting Le Darnetal for more than 25 years. The rooms are quaint and cosy, clean and comfortable, if a little quirky. At 50 Euros per night (plus breakfast 6 Euros each) they are cheap. The service by Lisa and Jean Paul is friendly and helpful, and it is always a pleasure to stay with them, and to eat...

There are two pages for Le Darnetal, we have commented elsewhere about the food, but we also stayed the night in one of the two rooms which were all it seems to have available at present. I think there are another two, but they were undergoing some renovation when we were there. The rooms are fairly basic, quite French, powerful...

Well worth the journey, with a genuinely warm welcome, and outstanding traditional French food and service. We have been coming here as a family for some years, and this is easily our favourite restaurant in France. Our youngest daughter absolutely adores the frogs' legs...

I am really undecided about my review for this restaurant. My starter of snails was very much lacking in flavour, my husbands whisky flambéed gambas, was delicious, we then shared chateaubriand, which we both agreed was one of the best we had ever tasted. Dessert was ok, Creme brûlée and cheesecake. My gripe was the service, there seemed to be...

We arrived early so we're the first diners of a Sunday evening and joked about the 'crush' but within 45 minutes the whole place was full - good job we had booked. The Madame speaks English well but is kind enough to be patient if you want to use your French. Every dish we chose was spot on, the cote...

We went with friends in late October, and were pleasantly surprised. The hotel is small, quaint and rustic, but the rooms are spacious, clean, warm and comfortable, with a lovely view (as above) onto the square. The stairs are steep, however, so unless your footwork is sure, it could be a problem. Our hosts made us more than welcome, and...

The welcome was warm.....the food was great , much better than we would expect to find in a small town. The Chateubriant was perfectly cooked, and truly delicious. Lots of British folk there....some of them were very noisy!

yet another excellent visit to the Darnetal. We have been coming here for well, over 25 years, when Lisa and John Paul were just employed as waitress and chef. Have things changed? Oh yes. Every time we visit there are subtle changes but how can it get better and better? The dedication of the now long time owners shows great results....

We were taken by friends to this excellent restaurant. Beautifully cooked food, oysters in champagne sauce, prawns in whisky, fish, a wonderful cheese selection and excellent service from Jean Paul and his most welcoming staff. We had a superb evening.

This was a return trip - for very good reasons! This time we were even more impressed by Jean-Paul Vernay's cooking, which seems to have gone up another notch (and he'd set the bar very high before!). In these days of sterile hotel chains it's wonderful to spend time in one of the oldest buildings in Montreuil. The bedrooms are...
