Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We arrived in an out of season Chatel late one April evening with nowhere to stay and were very fortunate that locals guided us to Emmanuel who kindly opened the doors of La Fleche d'Or, even though it had been closed for the season.

The room was well-designed, spacious with a double bed and bunk beds, kitchen/dining area and bathroom with separate toilet - all spotlessly clean. The shower was a dream and we woke to a glorious view of the local mountain.

We are frequent visitors to Chatel, skiing in winter and walking in summer not only because of the glorious countryside but also due to the kindness and generosity of spirit of the locals. Thank you Emmanuel!

We've just returned from a fantastic ski holiday, staying at the fleche'dor. The Rubin family and staff we're so welcoming and couldn't do enough for us. The food in the restaurant was first class and they went out of their way to cater for my daughter who is vegetarian. The hotel is in a great location close to the new lift system and only a short stroll from the village. The rooms are a really generous size and very well equipped, we will be back next year!

Booked via Sunweb.
Hotel is 2km north of Chatel in the small village of Vonnes on the main road up the mountain pass to Morgins in Switzerland (it is open in Winter). The road is therefore quite busy thoughout the day and early morning. There is a skibus stop outside which takes you to Superchatel gondola (50m walk uphill from bus stop) or the Chatel bus station where you can connect with all the other ski buses to the three other local lifts (Pre de Joux, La Linga and Petit Chatel).
Loads of car parking.
We were allocated an apartment in the residential apartment block next door fron the hotel. Functional but traffic noisy as it faced the main road. Had a balcony.
Food in restaurant in hotel was very good quality. Breakfast was ample.
Pool was good.

We booked a year ahead (for a family weekend skiing in February 2016) but this week, 7 months after receiving confirmation of the booking from booking.com (and with flights booked from the UK), I received a 2 line email in French from the property basically stating that they would not accept our reservation because they did not want to sell a weekend stay during school holidays...

No apologies - no explanation as to why they had sat on the confirmed booking for 7 months and then cancelled out of the blue - no suggestions as to what we should now do or alternative options...

All of this was subsequently confirmed by booking.com (who give them their due were suitably apologetic and tried to help).

I have had no reply to my email response to the property sent over 3 days ago questioning the cancellation and pointing out that we have flights booked for the trip.

They have basically hung us out to dry...

Why they couldn't have said something soon after the booking was placed - at least then leaving plenty of other options open to us - is a mystery to me.

If our experience is anything to go by, the property appears to have little regard to confirmed bookings if they think they can make more money cancelling and rebooking their rooms to someone else at a later date...

I can't comment on the quality of the accommodation (other than to say we were looking forward to our stay until they cancelled on us) but I would caution anyone considering placing a booking given our experience!

(and I hope the property chooses to comment on this review - I would like an explanation and apology at least - even if they won't communicate with us directly...)

I really understand you're mad at us but the thing is we never opened the booking for the next winter before september, Booking had it in their system without telling us anything. We were wondering how did you get any prices and a week end during french holidays because first of all they had no prices availaible for this winter until september and we never do short lettings during the french holidays, only saturday to saturday. We sent an e-mail via booking because we don't have your email adress but apparently you didnt get it So of course we totally understand you re angry about this, and we apologize but this is a system mistakes Hope you can understand Sincerly RUBIN R.

Very inflexibel, quite arrogant personell. One bed was not ready at night since there were no blankets, but upon requesting we were told we could get it the next morning. So one of us had to sleep without blankets.
The food was oké but far from original. I would not recommend this place.

Apartment 9 was cold, no radiator, just underfloor heating which did not work. The toilet in this apartment is so small that you have to shut the door once you have sat down, then the door is right in front of your face. Building regulations do not seem to apply here it was the most claustrophobic loo we have ever had to use. The rooms are basic which is alright but not overly clean, which is not alright. Breakfast was poor, to make a cup of tea or coffee you use a vending type machine and the water was not very hot therefore tea disgusting. We only had breakfast in the restaurant 1 day, the rest of the time we did it ourselves in our apartment.
The jury is out on the evening meal, if you are on a package deal then you have to choose your weeks meals on the Saturday evening when you arrive. After 2 out of the 3 of us contracted gastroenteritis from where we don't know we weren't so keen to be eating there again.
Would we return here, NO !!

This place is great when you are skiing - rooms are warm, water is hot and food is hearty.
They are very friendly, particularly the English speaking ladies - good fun and patient with us
It's within walking distance of a the chair lifts but the bus is frequent if you don't want to walk

We booked this back last year under the belief it was on the lake when we got to chapel we discovered it is now on the main drag. The apartment was very small and the shower door broken as was the shower bracket, the fridge smelt and the towels smell of cigarettes.
We were asked for a deposit and told on checkout subject to it being clean we would get it back. The food is not freshly cooked as the kitchen is too small to cater for the number of residents hence some food preparation is done in the bar (not very hygienic), you have to choose your evening meals for the whole week on arrival which seemed strange but you soon realise why because its mostly pre cooked and just reheated
Overall this is a cheap and badly run hotel would not stay again.

Cosy, rustic, no frills apart hotel in outskirts of Chatel. Suitable for a family skiing holiday. Plus side: good food, and enough of it, cosy bar area, Carole the boss is great, free spa area, comfy beds, big balconies, fresh orange juice at breakfast. Minuses: we were 5 people in an apart for 4-6 people - it was very tight, tiny toilet, no shower curtain so water all over bathroom floor, difficult to dry towels and ski clothes, gloves etc, ski boot heaters in short supply when hotel is full.

Couldn't say enough wonderful things about this hotel and it's staff. We were a large party of two families with small children and teenagers, staying over New Year's Eve, and absolutely everybody loved their time here. Carol was such a wonderful hostess, and went above and beyond. The food was outstanding - authentic, home-cooked and so much of it (we never managed to finish it all!), and the pool sauna area was a great addition after a day's skiing. Everybody thoroughly enjoyed the New Year's Eve party, which was equipped with live music, alcohol and a six course meal! We will most certainly be back in the future. Thank you for a wonderful trip :)
