We’ve stayed here 5 times now, it’s starting to feel like home! In fact I wish it was. Clean, comfortable. With plenty of amenities. (Wish it was cheaper - but hey, would it feel as good if it was?)
Staff are great. Location great. Châtel is warm and inviting - even when it is -3 all day! We’ll be back!

We've travelled extensively throughout the Alps and other ski locations, so we hope this gives you a realistic and accurate view of our opinion of the chalet and resort.

The good points:
* We travelled in late Jan 2015, so the prices were good
* The transfer time from Geneva airport was very quick compared to some resorts (1.30 - 2hrs)
* The apartment was well equipped with all relevant utensils and items you may need for cooking (including such things as kettles/toasters/coffee machine/oven microwave combo).
* We stayed in a one bedroom apartment (myself, my husband and our 1 year old) and requested a good balcony view as I would be staying in the apartment for most of the holiday with our baby. This was provided.
* The size of the apartment (e.g. bedroom) compared to many resorts we've been to in the Alps was of a good size.
* My husband enjoyed the Porte de Soleil ski area and apart from some parts with too many button lifts (he's a boarder) he said he would return to the region again.
* Chatel is a pretty little (bustling) place as its not high rise.
* There is a regular bus service from the chalet to other areas including Linga and Chatel Centre
* There is a lovely (genuinely heated) pool, childrens and adults, along with jacuzzis, steam room and sauna.
* There is an onsite spa and the full body massage I had was really good.
* We needed to see the doctor (Chapelle Phillippe) in Chatel Centre for our baby and he was excellent and well priced.
* We booked our private transfer with Magic Transfer (and return was with Ski Ride) - great drivers who were extremely friendly.

The not so good points:
* The chalet has very strict rules compared to many places (e.g an itemised list they make you sign when you arrive and check all items including how many cups/saucers/glasses etc.when you leave, a list of clear instructions on departure, including fines for not stripping bedding yourself or taking any rubbish out of the apartment). Its such a shame that a quality establishment like this feels the need to be so prescriptive when the significant majority of things you expect a 'well behaved' guest to do anyhow.
* The chalet is not particularly geared towards english guests, the staff tried but struggled with understanding basic questions such as 'where is the bus stop to Chatel? Can we get a taxi to Chatel Centre'. Instructions for things such as the oven/micro combo are in French. We speak basic french so we managed to get by but if not you may find it harder.
* To get to the super Chatel lift from the chalet you had to really get a bus (otherwise 20min walk uphill) and then walk up a couple of slopes. Buses leave from outside the chalet for both the Chatel Centre (3/4mins) and Linga (8/9mins) every 20mins or so.

Some top tips we would have found useful before we travelled:
* There are a number of supermarkets in Chatel... if you have a car there is apparently a large supermarket not far from Chatel, but we didn't and found the better prices at either the Intermarche (get the bus to Linga and its one of the stops along the way) or Sherpa (up in Chatel centre - just follow the signs). We found the Casino to be more expensive.
* The evening bus service is poor (starts at 6pm and finishes at 7.20pm) so unless you are happy with the walk up/down a very steep 800/900m un-paved quite busy roadway - with no short cuts, it was difficult to get out after dark. We found ourselves eating out at lunch and cooking in at night which fitted well with us.
* The bus stop is directly outside the hotel. You just stand on the other side of the road to the bus shelter to get the bus up to Chatel centre and stand on the side of the same side of the road as the bus shelter to go down towards Linga.
* If you fly to Geneva, remember its swiss Francs.

In summary, we thought that overall the chalet d'angele was a really nice place to stay with good facilities, but that it was a bit far out from the town centre to be somewhere we would probably come back to, but it was lovely.

I hope this helps any future guests.

The location of the apartments is OK, a little bit too far from the town for some perhaps (it’s about a 15 min walk up hill) but we didn’t find it a real problem . Chatel has two main ski lift stations at Linga and Super Chatel, both are served by a regular ski bus which stops right outside the reception every 20 mins. Super Chatel and the Swiss sector has lots of drag lifts but is far quieter than the Linga area, but its worth putting up with the crowds for the superior skiing
For Après, Chatel is relatively low key, but has a few bars and a good selection of restaurants, overall a good choice for families rather than party seekers. The apartments (we had a 2 bedroom sleeping 6) are great, clean and well presented. They are organised into blocks A, B and C all adjacent to the reception (I would try and get one of these if going again) and block G (where we stayed) which is accessed rather bizarrely via an underground carpark. I will be honest and say the access via the carpark was a real problem for me when we first arrived, the sign posting is absolutely appalling and the layout baffling ….once you get your head around the layout, after half an hour or so of walking round in circles up/down lifts ( etc) it actually isn’t too bad. Top tip, the ski lockers for blocks A, B and C are far more convenient than G in terms of getting to the ski bus. If you are in block G it is easier to exit via the underground carpark than the front reception which is a right faff. The spa on site is superb and well worth using. Overall I liked this place, good choice for families prepared to use the ski bus or drive.

We booked this apartment for Christmas 2014 and from the pictures on the web site we used it looked fantastic. We were extremely disappointed as the apartment was not as advertised. Luxurious is not a word I would use. Basic and functional. The apartment was so small the bedroom doors did not close in either bedroom. The en suite has a curtain. A door would not have fitted and it had the great advantage that you could wash your hands while having a shower. However we did have to wait 10 minutes for the temperature of the water to heat up. It was freezing in the apartment as the heaters are on a timer. There was no satellite TV. The cooker was a microwave /cooker combination and there were no instructions on how to use the oven in English.
The sofa, in the 6 person apartment, pulled out into bed. It was a two seater sofa and there is only one other chair available for relaxing in the evening.

If you plan to use the swimming pool bring your own towels as only towels for the apartment are provided.

Having booked at Christmas we paid premium rates for the apartment and were very disappointed by the standard. This is not a family apartment. It is more suited to student accommodation.

We have been to France a number of times for Christmas and there is much better value and more up market places available.

The apartment we stayed in was very comfortable, it was spacious with a balcony which gave a nice view overlooking the mountains. There were two bathrooms which was definitely a plus and the beds were alright too. The fact that the reception (or anyone to call if you had a query) was only available at certain hours was sometimes quite annoying. For example we arrived at about 10 in the evening and found out they hadn't given us sheets or a duvet for the 5th bed, as the reception wasn't open we had to wait until the next morning. That was only a minor thing however in an otherwise fantastic stay. The pool they had there was also amazing, they say pool but it was more like a spa. There was a hammam , a sauna, a pool, a jacuzzi and even a fitness room all of which you could enter for free if you were a guest at the hotel. The pool/spa was amazing and was really nice to relax in after a long day of skiing.

Firstly, dont be put off by my summary. This Self Catering complex is beautiful. Top of the range kitchen area, nice plates/cups etc. We had a room for 6 people (although only 2 of us in it) which was great as had a spare bedroom and a large lounge area. The views into the valley are very nice (email them to ask for this ahead of time), otherwise you may get one looking into the courtyard of the 3 room blocks. The location of Skiset in the hotel itself was ideal and they had a large ski locker room there too.
The wellness area was beautiful. We went to the Jacuzzis every night (2 very warm ones!) and used the Steam Room which was really nicely designed. The pool was gorgeous too.
Unfortunately, the location if a bit frustrating. Its ideal for the bus stop (right outside), which takes you to the village square/bus station as well as Intermache at the bottom of village (2min drive away). However, they stop at 7pm so if you want to go to village for a drink/meal at night, you have to walk back along the curvy road (not heavy traffic though). It's all down hill (from village back to hotel) so not too bad after a drink-just make sure you get a bus into town so you dont have to walk uphill). Buses are every 15mins till 7pm) and free to just hop on/off.
The hotel does not offer a safe!!!! I was annoyed with this, as being self catering, we had more money on us than normal, as well as passports. So, not having a safe was v unsecure.
Also, they dont replenish your towells AT ALL!! After 4 days there, I asked for new towells and was advised they would be 10euros each! I had to go back and wash them in the sink. Bit annoying considering how much we spent! (Also, English in Chatel is quite poor...unlike Avoriaz and bigger areas etc).
Other than lack of safe, lack of clean towells and the location, this hotel is beautiful. If going back to Chatel, we would stay there. Chatel itself is lovely - nice church, wooden shops and a lot bigger than I thought it would be (lots of restaurants/bars.and a few shops too.

Spacious, warm, extremely comfortable and well equipped.

5 of us shared a 3 bedroom apartment with lovely views up the valley to the slopes at Linga. The overall presentation of the building, facilities and apartment were very pleasing and well done. We liked the décor. We had a two sided large balcony with table and chairs.

The living room had good seating for 6 (or even 8). With large coffee table for games/books, etc.
The residence has only been open a few weeks and they are still sorting English channels on telly - it was no big deal.

Long dining table worked well with 8 confortable chairs. Kitchen area was spotless and all the equipment was brand new. Loads of everything, plates, glasses, etc.

Beds were very comfortable. New, spotless, bedding.

Ensuite was great. Main bathroom had a small bath with shower above in main bathroom. Both had super duper towel heaters. There was a separate loo.

We were given two free wifi access codes. Wifi speed was ok.

Leisure area stayed open until 8 and had lots of pool side loungers with good views up the valley (if you turned them to face out). Loads of sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi space. Nice pool. It would be even better if they did an hour slot from 8 to 9 without little screechy kids (to be honest they weren’t a problem).

Front desk were friendly and helpful. Order baguettes, pastries, etc for next morning delivery. Ask them for directions to the larger supermarket a mile or two from the apartment. Allternatively there is a lovely patisserie and a pokey casino supermarket in the town which is about 10 minutes fast walk up the hill.

I wanted the heating to come on early in the morning. No problem, the receptionist reprogrammed without a fuss.

Boot room worked well. reasonably easy to understand once you get started. Bus stop outside apartment Terre Noire. Fairly regular 15 mins or so. (1) take bus up hill to Chatel for super chatel lift or connections to Prez or Petit Chatel or (2) take bus down valley for Linga.

Easy to park outside for free - or - pay to park inside. There was lots of snow during our stay and we could not drive to ski lifts because we did not have snow chains.

minor negatives - It is too far to walk to lifts in ski boots - no ski hire on site - no restaurant or small shop (yet?)

On leaving, we only had to strip the beds and give the kitchen a clean. Check out was easy.

Overall - excellent find and brilliant value for money.

Booked this self catering apartment for Christmas stay, so spent the extra money to have a nice 4* apartment to spend Christmas day in. Highly disappointing apartment. Small and pokey under the eaves, freezing cold as one small night storage heater to heat the whole living space and there is no carpet or rugs so even in socked feet on the freezing tiles your feet are always cold. Kitchen badly appointed. The oven that was promised is in actuality a microwave which appears to have a fan heater option but our Christmas dinner took hours to cook in there. The hob has a touch sensitive panel to control the rings, except they turn themselves off, and you have to reset them constantly. It's a long walk to the town uphill, need to drive really. The included garage space that is cited in the apartment services is actually at a charge of 60E per week. The internet bombs you out every hour, but whilst you are connected it is a good connection - probably the only winning feature. The bed was two singles pushed together - common in France, but these were highly moveable beds and not conducive to anything but totally separate sleeping. If there were four of you in this apartment you would really struggle, there was nowhere to dry wet kit as the tiny night storage heater was behind the tv, there is only a small sofa in the lounge so you couldn't all crash out after a hard days skiing. The only other positive I can think of was the really large balcony. All in all we were disappointed for the money we spent, we expected a lot more. It really isn't worth the spend.

We had a 2 bedroom apartment which was very comfortable and well equipped for us (2 adults + 2 teens). The fact that the ski bus stops outside was great, the bus was never too crowded and the location of the ski hire shop within the complex was another plus.
The location is a bit too far from the town for the evenings. This did not matter to us as we drove in but this would not be a good location if you were without a car.
I would recommend this accommodation highly and we are likely to return.

We rented 3, 2 bedroomed apartments (each sleeping 6 with a sofa bed) with 4 sleeping in each apartment. The apartments are brand new and really lovely - beautifully furnished, very comfortable and warm, with 2 bathrooms (one en suite) and a separate loo. The open plan dining/kitchen/lounge was well equipped but the oven was nearly impossible to fathom and there were no instructions on how to work anything. The hob also took a bit of messing about with. Apart from that slight niggle the accommodation was lovely with fab views, etc.

The apartments are obviously still being finished off (there is another complex still being built just above) and the side entrance to our apartment was a little "unfinished" but overall everything was good.

One BIG moan, however, was the reception opening time. We arrived just after 12 noon on a Saturday and the reception (and it seemed the whole hotel) was shut until 2pm. There was no way to get into the complex, no telephone number to ring - nothing to do but wait. The building is set a little too far from the centre of Chatel (about 15 minutes uphill walk) and we had heavy suitcases with us. Luckily we found a door that had been wedged open and left our cases in the laundry area (with fingers crossed) Not a good start.

The next day we discovered that from Monday to Friday the reception shuts between the hours of 11am and 4pm. Nobody answers the phone and the whole place is locked up, so if you arrive during those hours in the week you are totally stuck. In addition, there is nobody at the spa (which I tried on several occasions due to a stiff back) and nobody answered the phone when I tried to ring. Very irritating and slightly alarming if there was some emergency. I know that the French tend to close for lunch during 12 and 2 but this was on the first Saturday of the half term and I think an 11-4 closure is absolutely ridiculous!

For breakfast you order bread and pastries the day before you want them (before 7pm if you're lucky enough to find reception open) and they forgot to order our breakfast one day. As the nearest shop is a 15 minute walk up the hill this was a bit irritating.

Overall a pretty nice place but they need to make some changes before we would stop again.
