This was our 2nd ski holiday staying in L'Escale and we enjoyed just as much as our first trip. This time we staying in a room with a balcony, which would recommend, with lovely views over the valley. Meals were excellent with good choices. Staying here in the morning you step out of the large boot room onto the piste, so ski out and ski in. The L'Escale is a slice of tranquility on a mountain, you do not feel shut off from the village more privileged to be in such a beautiful location. The staff were very friendly. The rooms were large and quite basic but had everything you need. A magical stay at L'Escale.

Just had a fantastic week at the L'Escale. There is something magical about being far from the madding crowd up a mountain, which falls silent at 5pm. Then it is just the piste bashers and quiet, ideal for the kids to toboggan or just sit on the terrace and admire the view. The staff are incredibly friendly and hard-working. The food was excellent, a wonderful spread for breakfast and dinner was also excellent. We had lunch on a couple of days as well, with a varied and large menu. If I had to come up with a criticism, it's that the Wi-fi basically does not work and for some reason the 4G seems not to work well, either. The rooms are a little basic, but that's not what you're there for. They are clean and comfortable. You can ski, quite literally, out the backdoor and apart from the fellow guests, the only others at the bar in the evening are the pisteurs. We will be back, for sure. A massive thank you to Sarah, Johanna and the rest of the team for making it such a pleasurable stay.

Superb location, excellent & friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble.

We were a party of four friends, sharing a room and knew we'd arrive late. The hotel organised a skidoo trip to get us up the hill and had food waiting for us.

The hotel were able to organise our lift passes, had options for discounts on ski-hire and all sorts.

The food was superb, many thanks to chef Olivier!

Great food and service. The staff were totally attentive and we were looked after really well. The view whilst eating lunch is spectacular. They do the best Berthoud and they looked after my Gluten Free requirements. A really great experience.

My two children and I spent four amazing days just after new year at this super place. We stayed in a triple room which was simple and basic but spotlessly clean and comfortable. The bathroom was basic but again it was all we needed.

It wasn’t luxurious but we weren’t expecting luxury and the room rates reflected that.

The Hotel is located next to the top of the Super Chatel Gondola. For keen skiers you couldn’t ask for a better location. It really is ski in ski out. And you have access to a boot room with sofas in it :)

Every morning we skied down before the lifts opened or just as the lifts opened and enjoyed half an hour of the slopes all to ourselves. Fantastic.

We ate every meal in the hotel - breakfast, lunch, afternoon crepes and dinner. Food was fantastic. The staff were friendly, welcoming and good fun. We were really made to feel at home and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

With two children it was great to be able to ski back to the hotel and have a couple of hours break in the room then ski, then have another break, then ski etc etc. It’s as easy to go back to your room as it is to have a coffee in another mountain restaurant.

If you want to access Chatel village after the Gondola has closed at about 5:30 pm this isn’t the place for you because you can’t. You are stuck up the mountain! But we loved that. We went to bed every evening early and enjoyed the peace and quiet.

On one day the weather was atrocious and the Gondola was closed all day for the first time in five years. We were worried about being stranded in the hotel all day with no option to ski. But no fear, the lovely people in the hotel arranged for us to get a piste basher down the mountain and then picked us up in a skidoo later in the day. This was exceptional, but we really appreciated the way we were looked after.

Food is excellent and plentiful. Would highly recommend and will definitely return.

I have added a photo taken out of our bedroom window so you can see just how close to the slopes we were. The photo was taken on the morning the piste bashers queued up to ferry the guests (at no cost) down the mountain when the Gondola was closed.

I stayed here for four nights with a group of friends. The hotel is right on the side of the slopes so excellent for both experienced and beginner skiers. The rooms are basic but comfortable with everything required for a good nights sleep. The breakfasts were lovely and plentiful. Evening dinner was delicious we couldn't have asked for more. Sarah, her team and ice the dog were extremely welcoming and couldn't have been better hosts. On the final day we were able to keep our rooms on at no extra cost until we finally left at 4 o'clock which was really helpful as we then got the full day skiing. We will definitely come back and bring more friends with us :)

This is the second lunchtime visit to the restaurant at L'Escale this season and both have been excellent. The restaurant is in a simple set of adjoining rooms with tables covered in faux cowhide tablecloths.
The restaurant's strengths can be summed up in two phrases - the friendliness of the staff and the delicious food!
Taking the latter first, they do the simple ski restaurant fare really well- spaghetti carbonara, pizzas, burgers, even steak tartare - done with care and presented beautifully.
The staff have been attentive and on our first visit, spontaneously moved us from the vicinity of a draughty door.
The building is a modern wood-clad block, but try the restaurant. We will undoubtedly go back!

we spent a week skiing in Chatel, and being well looked after by Sarah and her team. This property is the only one in the area that is up on the ski slopes rather than in the village
I chose it because we love to stay where we can ski in/ski out
You must be back in the lodge before the Super Chatel Gondola closes for the night
As we are not interested in night life and entertainment etc this lovely quiet property was perfect for us
each evening we were served classic local style meals which were often totally new to us at a very fair price, and hostess Sarah is doing a great job with her renovations of what was previously quite a rundown property.
currently there is no drying room but we were able to get all our gear dry overnight in our room. the storage room for our boots and skis always had a very wet floor which needs addressing. once putting your foot in a sock down was enough to make you beware. the drying room should also Help this
Rooms are pretty compact but everything we needed
we would definitely return here. it is a fabulous base for skiing the whole massive Portes du Soleil ski area

We ate here 2 days in a row for lunch as 1 family of 4 and with another family. The service is super friendly and they also don't bug you when you're trying to chat. The food is excellent!! The best in Chatel for us so far. The caramelised onion in the burgers is a very nice touch. Kids happy, adults happy & everyone is stuffed!!

Just returned from a 5 day ski break staying at L’Escale in Chatel. The hotel is situated at top of Super Chatel gondola so no descent after 5pm, but this is not a problem. The hotel is very charming, ski to and from hotel which is a dream. The staff were always around to help, very friendly and always made time for you. Our room was great, plenty of storage, lots of hooks which when skiing always great to see. Also the heater in the room we could regulate to suit our own needs. Very important was we could get good WiFi in your bedrooms, good enough to stream from Netflix. Being a french hotel, majority of information in french, there was always a member on staff to help translate and this was all part of the charm of the hotel, we felt we were experiencing a French holiday in a french hotel. The food, once menu translated offered a choice from two options, each meal tasty and varied, great pride taken in explaining all the homemade and locally sourced products. The homemade bread served with each meal and breakfast was amazing. There is a bar in the hotel which is open all day and into the evening. There is a decent sized boot room leading straight onto terrace. This hotel has everything you need for the perfect ski holiday, great location, friendly staff, good rooms and fantastic food. We would love to return one day.

Hi there, no you can bot go up there by car. There is a not to expencive parking down in the village where you can buy a week ticket to go in and out. On fridays the hotel arrenges a down at 7pm and up at 11 pm. There rest of the nights you are stuck up there. But for us it was no problem at all the food is good and people are very friendly. Which you cannot say for al of the resteaurants downtown. Hope this helps your choice :-)
