Breakfast was served at Olive tree restaurant with fantastic service from Sofia. She really deserves attention. Omelettes and eggs on request, coffee and juice served on the tables and a good selection of bread, snacks and fruit.
When we arrived we were greeted by Stella who runs the family business and is a credit to the hotel and is always on hand.
The rooms are very very clean and towels and linen changed on a regular basis.
Our room was big and a lovely balcony over looking the sea.
The hotel is within walking distance of many bars and restaurants and so you have the variety.
Can't wait to come back next year.
thanks Stella for a wonderful holiday
picking a frontal seaside appartment proved to be great.
The Olive Tree open air restaurant just with feets nearly in the sea is a modern approach to Greek cuisine; congrats.
Location: Rania Hotel is located on the beach in the lively resort of Platanias, 300 meters from the center of the village and 9 km west of the city of Chania. It’s build really on the beach, so you don’t even have to cross the road to swim. If you don’t have a car, there are many buses to the city of Chania.
Beach: The beach of Platanias is a long sandy beach. The sea is clear but you have to be careful, as in frond of the hotel lays an underwater rock, so getting in the sea is really difficult, especially when there are beachcombers. This is not a serious problem as there is a place with no rocks just 100 meters from the hotel, so everybody used this passage / lane to enter the sea. There are sun-beds and umbrellas for rent on the beach (2 sun-beds and 1 umbrella costs 5 euros per day).
Facilities: There is a clean, large pool with a separate section for children, a pool bar, free sun-beds on the grass around the pool, a children playground, a PC with internet connection, a large parking area and a restaurant – beach bar.
Restaurant: The “Olive Tree Restaurant” is located on the beach and it’s one of the best things in the hotel. Delicious food, low prices and always some free fruits and “tsikoudia” drinks for the end.
Rooms: Rooms are very clean, as the whole of the hotel. They clean the room every day and they change the linens 3 times every week. All of the 31 rooms have a balcony and most of them a view to the sea. All of them have a kitchen and a refrigerator, a TV, free air-condition and a safe for your valuables.
Staff: Its owners operate the hotel and the whole staff is very friendly, polite and helpful.
Rania Hotel is a family friendly hotel and you will see many babies and children around. Most of its customers are from Scandinavia. It is absolutely recommended to everyone who wants a comfort and clean hotel on the beach, near Chania at a really good price (we paid 50 euros per night for September).
Our studio had an ocean view, balcony next to the Olive Tree restaurant, but we didn't mind. Restaurant had a nice lunch and dinner and we ate there few times. We didn't have breakfast bought beforehand but if You wanted to buy it, You should order it day before from the Olive Tree restaurant and it costed about 10euros. Also the hotel's pool bar had a little snack/lunch.
The hotel room had almost everything, towels, hairdryer, little shampoos, slips and bathrobes, beach/pool towels, ok kichenette, aircon, free wifi and the welcoming basket with fruits and wine. Only minuses were hard beds and the shower, little small and the handle was little broken. Not a five star room, but very clean and nice for 3+ star hotel. Staff was also welcoming and kind, and the hotel was most of all vefy quiet. Not so suitable maybe for families (had a small kids pool, but the main pool was over 2 meters deep at the deepest), but very nice for people who like it quiet. The centre of Platanias was nearby if you wanted to see more nightlife. We were overall very satisfied and will definitely consider coming back here and recommed this hotel!
The rooms are super clean and big enough with daily cleaning, hair dryer, safe deposit box and airconditioning as a bonus.
When the wind is strong, you can hide by the pool. There are free sunbeds and Stela will definitely offer you some delicious refreshment.
There are sunbeds and umbrellas for EUR 5 per day on the beach and usually they serve some fruits for free. The sea is crystal clear but there are many rocks on the shore so you have to enter the sea about one hundred meters to the right.
There is a bus stop just few meters oposite the hotel and some shops, bars, restaurants and Inka supermarket nearby.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel as very nice and friendly place where you can spend your holidays.
The staff was friendly and helpfull.
We had a two-room apartment, and it was ok. The only negative with it was that it had been smoked in, and smelled of old sigarettesmoke.
The pool was fine, with a children-section.
When I was there, it was mostly old people and familys with children who was there.
Near very good restaurants, Pirgos, Cugini, Almera.
Rent a car and investigate the island.
