This is my 3rd visit to Ourania Studios and every time I look at the reviews I thank those reviewers who write an honest one. Let's start with the rooms, I have always said they are Basic but they have comfortable beds and a shower that is piping hot, there are enough pots & pans & all you would need to survive. Now if you want to eat out at the onsite Restaurant there is no better, the food choice is Greek/Mediterranean. The size of the meals are big, so be warned. Christos the Chef makes some amazing food. The rest of the family-run business is run like clockwork. I have read that some people complained their towels were only changed twice a week, I beg to differ mine was three times a week and I wouldn't have thought they treat a room change any different, this included my bed sheets which were changed twice a week. Christos and his family are brilliant and if you request something they do their utmost to get it done. Hopefully, I have given you an honest review and answered some of the issues that others have put forward. Ourania is a brilliant place to have a good rest & relax, it is not a 5* hotel but if you want that, pay double or treble what you pay here. Oh, I forgot, the Pool is to die for. I highly recommend you give Ourania Studio a try, you won't be disappointed.

This place is old style small and friendly. The rooms are basic Greek which I like. What was so disappointing was that the mattresses on the beds were way beyond their best being thin, dirty, torn and collapsed in the middle, no good if you have any sort of back problems. This was just not in our room as I managed to see into other rooms during changeover and they all looked the same.
We arrived on a Thursday and the small bathroom bin was not emptied until Sunday and then again Tuesday and Thursday. This is the first Greek place that I have stayed in, in over 30 years, where the bins have not been emptied every day. Towels were changed 3 times during our 14 night stay and the bed sheets once.
Not sure how this accommodation was rated 3 star, personally I would generously rate it as a 2.
Can't rate the restaurant as when we went for a nightcap on our first night we were made to feel in the way so never bothered again.
Finally having asked for an upper floor room we were allocated ground floor although upper floor rooms were available. Felt that guests were an inconvenience and that the entire place was neglected.

After an enforced absence of 2 years due to the pandemic arriving back at the Ourania was just what I needed. The reception from the owner Christos and his family was fantastic and it truly felt that I had come home.
The room was spotless and Christos's food in the taverna was splendid and as his style - plentiful. If you are hungry, try his mixed grill, you won't be disappointed.
The Studios are situated in a quiet area on the edge of town, about a 10 minute walk away. It is also well situated on the well published walking and hiking routes into the hills, which is a must see. The views up there are fantastic.

No welcome on arrival. Our taxi driver had to go in search of someone to show us where to go. Our first impressions of the room were good at first, due to the fact we had paid extra for a 3 bedded room, so it was quite spacious.
We had purchased bottles of water on the way, so needed to get them in the fridge, on opening, it smelt musty, the door had no storage shelves, they were completely missing , so no water or milk carton could be stored. A shelf in the fridge had to be removed to be able to stand our milk carton upright. everything else had to be laid down, so no open bottles could be put back into the fridge. I will add, our next door neighbour bought super glue from the village to repair his fridge door shelves that were hanging off, nobody should have to do that.
The bathroom shower tray was badly stained, also the toilet bowl. Towels were only changed once a week, also the bedding twice in 3 weeks stay. Sheets were passed their best with cigarette burn holes.
Our front door had gaps down the panels, we could see daylight through them from the hallway.
The patio or terrace whatever you call it was badly cracked, and home to hundreds of ants nests.
This was a studio for 3 people, however, the 3rd bed, was not a bed, it was basically an old pine sofa with a very thin mattress if that's what it could even be called. It was thinner than a sun lounger mattress. Also as a 3 person studio, there were only 2 chairs to use on our patio/terrace, so should you have a family member come to visit, there isn't anywhere for them to sit, it says in the rules and tips notice in each room, no indoor furniture to be taken outside, this is however unavoidable if you want a 3rd chair!
This is not our first time to Greece, we have stayed on most of the islands also several parts of the mainland, but Lesvos had become our special island, and we have been visiting Petra for over 20 years, but never have we stayed with Greeks that were as unfriendly, as this family were.
Never a smile or hello, the daughter Meropi was quite rude.
I think everyone we spoke to said they would not return, as it was getting so run down.

Jet 2 took this establishment on, but I'm afraid it's not up to their usual standard and need to seriously reconsider advertising it as a 3 star. It doesn't merit 1 star in my opinion, and I think they would be better to discard it from their website.

If people visit Petra for the first time and stay at Ourania, I think they may never return, that would be such a pity because Petra is so beautiful, and the people so kind and friendly.

My advice would be to stay somewhere different in Petra, it has such a lot to offer.

This was our third visit to Ourania and we were very disappointed this time. (in the past I have always recommended this property but not any more)

First of all when we arrived we knew which room we were in so left our cases at the bottom of the steps and went to the restaurant/bar to get our keys and to say hello, as we walked towards Christos he just said “ the keys are in the door” No hello welcome back or it’s nice to see you again. We went to the room and dropped off the cases and went to get a drink, he did shake our hands but still No welcome back.

There never seemed to be anyone about to serve you with a drink when you were around the pool or come back after a day out, same when we came back in the evening as we wanted to support them and have a nightcap 9 times out of 10 the bar was in darkness (their loss as we just went to our room and had a drink there)

We know its basic but this year we noticed nothing had been done since we were last there in 2019 (we were booked to go 2020 but obviously it was cancelled) it really needs some TLC.

The room

The bedding was so thin you could see through it and was only changed once in our 2 weeks. The sheets also had holes in and there was no mattress protector.

Towels changed 3 times.

Bins not emptied very often as the room not cleaned very often either (lost the will to count how many times but not acceptable.

Smoke Alarm NON existent the base was there but no battery or cover again not acceptable.

Outside table & chairs very dirty I had to scrub them and use antibacterial cloth on them when we arrived.

Fridge – the part in the door to hold in bottles was broken and just on the self in the fridge.

The people that run this complex are absolutely vile. I have been to Greece over 150 times and I have never met Greek people like this before. Greek people are lovely, friendly and helpful. These people are not, they can't possibly be Greek. I asked to change rooms when I first arrived as they advertise wifi in your room but I couldn't get it. I was repeatedly told no ' that is your room'. I wasn't given a proper reason why I couldn't move. I was then told there were no rooms. I spoke to the rep who arranged for me to swap rooms and I was supposed to move today (after 3 days of begging) but the nasty woman said I can't move til tomorrow cos the room needs cleaning! It hasn't been cleaned since the last people moved out a week ago so why would it need cleaning again and why was I told there wasn't a room to move to when there was. Please do not stay here. I am so upset because of my experience I can not really put it into words, I am distraught at the way I have been treated, I know you will think this is over the top but it isn't, apparently the family are farmers not hoteliers, they know how to speak to sheep and cows but not human beings. People who know that they are like this just tolerate them, please don't let them spoil your holiday. Please choose somewhere else to stay.

Nice clean and modern studios in a quiet location ten minutes walk from the village centre. Air conditioning is available but the studios were cool enough without it, in June.

Excellent attention by the Family who own the property.

I've been coming back here for years now and it feels like I'm coming home. Ourania and Christos the owners never fail to make me welcome.
The rooms are functional and clean and within a 10 minute walk from the village. However, there is a great taverna on site. Christos's cooking is superb although portion sizes can be generous, far better value than in the village. His drinks are also cheaper. If you regularly holiday in Greece you won't regret coming here you will probably come back again. Can't wait to go back next year to meet up with all the other returners which adds to the family feeling. Pool is of a good size and great for that cooling dip after a long walk up into the hills.
Remember this is Greece and not the Costas, things are different, laid back and relaxing.

Firstly I would like to Echo the review written by Ann G .which is very well written.
We have just returned home after our 1st visit to The Ourania and what I wouldn't give to be back there now.
If you are looking for Greece of the past this is definitely for you.
Yes it is basic Greek accommodation and no the plates and cups don't match but who cares .our bedding and towels were clean and our beds were comfortable.
Christos , Ourania and family were great hosts and made our stay fantastic , the pool area is clean and theres pl
enty of sun loungers and umbrellas for everyone.
We met alot of lovely people that have stayed there many times over the last 20 + yrs and we were made to feel very welcome .
The family owned on site taverna Zygos is amazing, Christos is a chef and his food is all fresh and from the family farm , the portions are huge and the menu has so much to choose from , whether you want fish, steak , lamb chops or traditional dishes lamb kleftico , mousaka the food is freshly prepared and the flavours are great , we have returned home needing to go on diets 🤣 . Oh and not forgetting the homemade rice pudding with cinnamon made with the milk from the farm which we were given after our meal.
We Will definitely be back and would like to thank the family for their hospitality and wish them all well .
