I came to visit Lake Como with my Nan last year. The views were absolutely stunning, we had a twin room with a balcony which was shared with other rooms. My nan had paid extra euros to get a view of the lake which we had, but would of preferred our own balcony, as on the third night there was toilet paper all over the patio on the balcony, and it was right next to the outdoor seating area of the restaurant. The room was big enough and the beds were comfy, although half way through our stay the air conditioning started leaking but we soon cleaned it up. The pool was brilliant and clean, the bar was excellent too!
The restaurants food was tasty, although the menu repeated a few times. Every night the desert was the same, either ice cream, fruit or this jelly sponge. Waiters were helpful.
Overall I found that our stay was what you would expect at a 3 star hotel. Was good but had a few downsides.

Room Tip: Try and get your own balcony with a lake view, otherwise your balcony will be a brick wall.

we stayed here for coupleof dayss, whilst we were on a road trip. The hotel reminded us of stepping back in time. Decent rooms,Ornately decorated.
Pros:
Great view of Lake Como.
Good food- great buffet
location is strategic- you get the views of bellagio and other side of lake

Cons:
Gives a vintage feel, they should look at a modern upgrade design
Parking- you need to walk 300M from the hotel, not a good idea in winter

The hotel is a bit dated but has some fabulous decor/fixtures and fittings.
my room was adequate as a base, balcony with fabulous views over the lake. Room cleaning basic and despite leaving sign to have room made up, sheets never changed in 10 days !!
The dining room was huge and crowded which meant crowds for the buffet, the food was nice but catered for an
English palate with a very tiny pasta/pizza counter. As italy has fabulous food it would be nice to see this in the hotel.
The bar area is way too small for number of guests using it.
All on the ground staff are a credit to the hotel.
nothing to do here at all out of season. a point to mention is the supermarket round the corner, stocks all you might need.

This hotel has got to be up there with one of the worst I have ever stayed in. How we ended up on this side of Lake Como, I don’t know. Not enough research from us!!
This hotel is an all inclusive. The food is terrible, the wine almost not drinkable. The pool area is dirty and the staff rude and unhelpful. When we arrived they didn’t even have a room for us and we were sent to a another hotel for the first night. Turns out, this one was better than the one we booked but who knew. Anyway we arrive at the hotel Brittania on the second night and the staff are just as unhelpful. We go to our room (not bad) but there is no hot water. When we reported this there was nothing they could do as they were fully booked. So cold showers it is. We go down for dinner, the dining room is at capacity, you couldn’t hear yourself speak for the noise, the staff here are also rude and their food and cutlery handling is less than hygienic! The tables were dirty, placemats stained and the buffet food very ordinary. We went to bed that night and decided to leave first thing next morning which is what we did. We didn’t even have breakfast before catching the bus into Como. We ended up staying at a beautiful little hotel, half the price and twice as nice. Do not stay in Cadenabbia - there is absolutely nothing there. Suggest you stay in Lake Como, Bellagio or Verenna.

We stayed here for New Year. Other than the bedroom the hotel was cold. The "free" bar was run by a reluctant elderly gentleman; in fact most of the staff were rude and unwelcoming. The hotel was more interested in the forthcoming winter closure, rather than the needs of the customers staying at that time. The hot food was cold and service was abrupt. Not a hotel we plan to return to.

Just returned from a week’s stay and overall was a good experience.
We got a welcome drink on arrival and our bags were put in our room while sipped our treat.
The hotel is right on the lake and the view across is stunning.
Breakfast was slick and varied apart from one day when there was an influx of new guests.
The pool was really good and a real sun trap.
The main town is only a short stroll from the hotel so again a tick in the box.
We didn’t pay the extra for a lake facing room but that doesn’t bother us.
No tea/coffee in the room but was kept clean daily
So as a hotel a recommendation is in order, staff always friendly.

Yes the hotel is showing its age in places but as it is right on the Lake,it not only has great views but is well situated for visiting the surrounding area. The food is good with a large choice of both hot and cold dishes. The Hotel is situated opposite the famous
Bellagio which is a must see.

I was staying at a nearby hotel. The Britannia is closed for refurbishment. There is considerable negligence by the new owners. The pool on the lake is breaking up and even though this was happening in June when I last visited, no effort has been made to repair or remove it in the last 6 months. While staying my sleep was disturbed every night by the creaking and banging of this feature as it finally gave up the ghost. It sounded like a couple of out of tune saxophones accompanied by an anvil being banged. When I left, the thing was looking more like the Titanic and the seating had presumably disappeared into the lake.

We stayed all inclusive and had a lovely week here. The food is lovely, with plenty of choices and you can eat as much as you want. The restaurant was clean and the staff very nice. There was a good choice of included drinks - all the times I've been to Italy I've never had aperol spritz before!

The room was small and the view was of the building next door - so not great. However, it was very clean and we didn't stop in the room much during the day.

March 2020 my partner and I paid alot of money to stay. The pandemic hit. We were given a voucher . Today I contacted the hotel to ask to use the voucher . I received an informal, rude reply "hotel close ,your voucher expired, sorry Francesca" . Firstly , there is a pandemic so how could we enter Italy? Secondly there was never an expiration date on the voucher because of Covid19. Why is this seen as an acceptable way to treat your customers who spend money to be denied their money back then just treat us this way ?

We stayed at the hotel last year and enjoyed the occasional meal at the Bazzoni sister hotel. Is this option still available?
Answer from Annie
1 contribution2 helpful votes
It was an option when I was there but someone staying at the Bazzoni told me that the Britannia Excelsior had a much better choice of food.
