We have just returned from a fabulous stay in the beautiful Cairbre House. This Georgian home is ideal for family groups. The bedrooms boast really comfy beds and ensuites with decent showers. The children in our party loved that every bedroom had a television. The adults loved the antique furnishings and stunning views of the estuary. The house has a well appointed kitchen with a cozy aga.It has two large fridges, dishwasher and double electric oven.It also has a large utility room with washing machine and dryer.
The dining room was opulent and an atmospheric spot to enjoy takeaway from the gorgeous restaurants in Dungarvan.Brian the owner was so helpful. He had copies of the menus from nearly every takeaway and restaurant in town.He was great to give advice on local attractions too.The gardens surrounding the house are beautifully maintained. The enclsed back garden was an ideal space for children to play safely in.The garden has two huge outdoor tables.Perfect for alfresco dining. The house is a short walk from the centre of Dungarvan. We will definitely be returning to this absolute gem of a house. Brian made us feel so welcome and was a kind and gracious host.I really can't reccommend this house enough.

Our family of seven spent a week in November 2023 at Cairbre House which easily accommodated our gang. Brian, our host, was most welcoming on the rainy night we arrived and was responsive to our needs throughout our stay. The House itself met all our needs in terms of parking, bedrooms, bathrooms (plenty of those!), kitchen equipment, etc. We used the fireplace, and it worked well during our stay.
The House is a few minutes away from a pub and grocery store and a 10-15 minute walk into Dungarvan which is a good-sized town with all the amenities.

We had a great time here. Our extended Irish family came to visit and we enjoyed the location, garden etc. the weather was on our side and we utilised the facilities to the best of our ability. The owners left us to our own devices and we would return. Amazing history behind the house. Thank you for your hospitality. Brian, Pam and all our family Irish and Scottish 🇮🇪🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

This B&B is wonderful! Brian, the host, is a very friendly gentleman who really takes care of each guest. Our room was exceptionally modern, clean and comfortable with a bathroom in the room. Breakfast in the morning was delicious – he has many options depending on your mood. The house was built by the Duke of Devonshire in 1819, and has a lot of character. Highly recommend!

I cannot imagine why this B & B has so many recommendations. Yes, it is on a tidal lagoon. But on the other side of the lagoon is the main motorway into town, and it roars and thunders with traffic throughout the night. The house was an incoherent mess, and not very clean, and our room was just terrible. It was a twin-bedded room, so small that there was nowhere to put the suitcases, and the bathroom was a cubbyhole without a window. One of the beds stuck out halfway across the bathroom door, ensuring barked shins if you needed to get up in the night, and the carpeting was the sort that you feel sure has been chosen not to show the dirt. In fairness they did serve a good breakfast, with some of the much-vaunted fresh herbs from the garden on the scrambled eggs, but that was enough to compensate for the rest. Our host was not there when we arrived, and when he did pitch up we suspected he had been drinking. In short, we couldn't wait to leave. Avoid it.

We consider ourselves lucky, often stumbling upon hidden treasures while on vacation, often when we least expect it. Cairbre House is another hidden treasure. A feel of what old Ireland should be like. The look and feel of the house just make you comfortable. And when you meet Brian, you realize that you have found a gem! His attention and kindness make him the perfect host. He went above and beyond what we would have expected from a host and we are truely grateful for the experience!

Of all the B & B's we stayed in, The Cairbre House was my favorite. It was stepping back in time. The host Brian was fantastic and the breakfast and warm hospitality was great. I enjoyed it so much we plan to visit Dungarvin this year around the same time and stay at The Cairbre House.

This is a fantastic place. Great attention to detail. Fire lighting when we returned fro dinner in town (15 min walk to excellent restaurants). Gorgeous breakfast. Bedroom very comfortable. Fabulous gardens. Very close to the Greenway. Bike stored safely in the shed. And best of all the most friendly and informative host. Thanks Brian.

I stayed here with 2 friends on a Saturday night. We chose it because of its excellent location and on the recommendation of the restaurant we were going to. To say we were impressed would be an understatement. From the moment we walked in Brian was friendly and couldn't have been any more helpful, he even drove us the 5 minutes to the restaurant as we were not wearing walking shoes !
The room was cosy, well equipped and spotless.
Breakfast was the highlight. I had a Mediterranean omelette with vegetables from his own garden, home made soda bread, home made jam and fresh berries / muesli. We would most definitely return.

Brian was a most welcoming host , the house is a comfortable one in a remarkable Riverside setting , only a ten minute walk from from the town centre. We slept soundly and then enjoyed a really excellent breakfast (home made soda breads, jams and Marmalade, local smoked Salmon, dressed from the garden with freshly foraged greenery,) all complimented by the Simon Pearce tableware. I believe I saw a Merganser Duck bobbing around in the estuary from the bedroom window. All in all this was a special place and thank you Brian for making it so pleasant for us.Adrian Haythornthwaite
