The New Bath Hotel and Spa re-opened in late summer 2016 to once again be Derbyshire's premier boutique hotel. The bedrooms are bright and spacious and provide travellers with high levels of comfort and complimentary wifi. The hotel's Brasserie restaurant serves modern food using the best local produce. We have recently opened our new Artistry restaurant which offer a tasting menu. Whether it be a wedding, dining or just simply to sleep here, the New Bath Hotel has it all. We also have a fantastic outside pool which is fed by natural spa water, and is open to residents. Non residents can also use the pool for the day or use the pool on a membership basis. This outside pool is one of a very few within the UK, and should be seen to be appreciated and enjoyed.

Lovely building from the front- we were room 65 at the back which is very tired looking. Nice view over the lido. The bed was very comfy/ the shower was powerful and the breakfast was just enough to choose from. I think it’s having done refurb work done at the moment. Handy location for Matlock.

** Review purely based on the spa within the hotel ** Overall a great disappointment, stressful and if it wasn’t for the amazing full body massage I had at the end I’d give the spa 1 star overall. Facilities were just dreadful. I was looking forward to 90mins using the facilities, a cream tea included in my package and a full body massage. Facilities - On arrival the lady on reception brought me through to the spa and quickly showed me around handing me a robe and towel. The lockers were either broken or didn’t have a key so you had to leave your personal things unattended. The majority of facilities were based in the most uninviting small space which would be crowded with 8 or more people combined (Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room). These were outside in a patio type area, grey plastic decking, some of which was damaged. The jacuzzi either had very poor pumps or they were weren’t working properly. The sauna was quite nice but very small in a hut. The steam room was very steamy but cold. You were sat in large cold puddles on tiles. You’d purely go in there if you didn’t want to see or to cool down. The cream tea? Never mentioned, never directed where to go. The best bit was the treatment. The lady I had was lovely, just the right amount of chatty and quiet when you’d want it, friendly, asked me about the pressure I’d like, gave recommendations and the massage itself was splendid. Overall, for purely a treatment, great. Facilities, rubbish. There is a lido as well which is refreshing in a different part of the hotel but those mentioned above were very poor. I felt like I was sat in a neighbours small grey back garden. No plants. Just sat in a hut at the end. In great need of renovation. Not luxury at all.

We stayed a couple of days at the new bath and I can’t not recommend this place enough the staff couldn’t do enough the breakfast was very filling and the rooms were comfortable. But I must say Jordan stood out for us always there with a happy smiley face in the morning and full of information about the surrounding areas as I told her manager she is a credit to the company keep her!!

Staff here very helpful and courteous. Special thanks to Amanda and the lady at the bar who served us at the dinner table. Dinner and hot breakfast was excellent. Although some parts of the hotel needs some decoration and also the carpet the hotel is generally clean. Our room was big and the sitting area was useful to leave bags etc. Carpets had some stains but overall it was clean. Will definately return again to stay if we go to Matlock.

The pool and pool staff are fantastic. Its brilliant for serious lane swimming - not your usual splash about hotel pool. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. However, the hotel itself is hugely disappointing. Its not just that it needs refurbishing: everything is done on the cheap so even some basics and details that would improve the place are missing. The heating in our corridor was off and a light wasn't working so it was cold and unwelcoming and hard to see the door numbers at night. There were only 2 tea bags, milks and coffee sachets (cheap nescafe decaff) so once we had a drink on arrival there wasn't anything in the morning. The toiletries were cheap, small single use plastic bottles and not really enough in them for 2. The bathroom pedal bin was broken. The bathroom was musty and old. The hairdryer was cheap and old - on its last legs with buttons that got stuck. I cannot recommend a stay here. There seems to be a complacency because of the location, as if the owners know people will come anyway so they can't be bothered to make your stay as good as it can be. This is not a reflection on the reception and cleaning staff who were trying to do their best I love the pool though, so next time we will stay somewhere else and buy day passes.

I tried to book a meal in the dining room for 75 people and had a terrible experience. The so called Events Manager was hopeless. I made my enquiry and was told the Events Manager would call me back but after a few days I had to chase. I was told how busy they were and to give it a few more days. Eventually I received a call back from the Events Manager, whom was going to look at prices and get back to me. I still have not even had the courtesy of a reply. I despair. You would have thought a meal for 75 people was serious business that the hotel would have been keen to secure. Alas not!

We stayed Wednesday to Saturday as a little getaway. The hotel was absolutely lovely, all staff were very nice. Very convenient for local restaurants and attractions. Our room was extremely comfortable with plenty of storage space. Had a brilliant time.

We were hoping for a Fairy Tale hen party and booked a Renew and Revitalise Spa experience at the New Bath Hotel for 6 people - what we got was Grim. The experience includes a cream tea, we asked for 2 vegan options - they confirmed 2 gluten free, we again requested 2 vegan options, they confirmed. When we arrived we were served tea, we waited and waited no food arrived, getting close to our spa treatment times we asked what was happening. The spa treatments were pushed back half an hour. Eventually the non vegan cream teas arrived consisting of barely defrosted mass produced scones, cream and jam. No vegan option. After much chasing a plate of 5 small vegan scones were placed on the table, 10 more minutes passed we asked where the vegan cream and jam was, after more delay some small pots of jam and vegan spread was placed on the table. After more chasing we were told there was no vegan cream. The Spa is tiny, our party of 6 overwhelmed the space, the changing room could fit 2 people at a time. The lockers had no keys, the jacuzzi is in a miserable atrium with some plastic ivy 'climbing' up one sad wall. We found out later that the outdoor pool was included in the experience but by the time we were told it was closed! None of the staff are properly trained, the waiting staff had no idea how to cope with the lack of food. The Spa staff didn't even observe the basic courtesy of knocking on treatment room doors before entering - barging in when I was midway through getting dressed. Communication was non existent On the plus side the massages and facials were good but every other aspect let the experience down. If you want a relaxing experience go somewhere else!!

The restaurant car park was almost empty, I should have took this as a sign of things to come. We were kept waiting for a set menu and when the starters finally arrived, the soups were cold. I was disappointed because this was meant to be a special treat. There seemed to be only one waitress on duty. I told her the soups were unacceptable and rather than replace them, could we quickly move on to the Mains. I asked her to check with the kitchen how much longer things were going to take, especially since the restaurant was not busy or full of people. She told me they had a new Chef who had been busy last night doing 55 dinners and he was not sure where things were. She offered that I could speak to the Manager if I wanted, I agreed. The waitress went away for another 15mins and returned to say there was no Manager on today but we didn’t have to pay. I asked why the kitchen didn’t know how long our food would be and she didn’t know, but said it would be “quite a while longer”. As we had now been there 75mins, we decided to leave, whilst we still had time to get something to eat somewhere else in a very busy Matlock Bath. So, extremely disappointing, very poor service and poor quality food. I wouldn’t even give it 1 out of 5 but I had to put a score. Rubbish!

Room Tip: Don’t go there to eat. Damp dining areas, one can only wonder what the rooms are like. I’m sure...
