Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We knew this place was going to be beautiful from the photos but it’s only when you go there that you can fully appreciate just how special it is. From the colourful original tiles in the entrance porch to the individually designed bedrooms and thoughtfully curated public spaces, everything has the wow factor. Even though you’re in a large country house, the atmosphere is warm, cosy and welcoming so you immediately feel at home.
l stayed in the red room, which had the comfiest bed l’ve ever slept in and crisp cotton sheets that were hard to get out of in the morning. However, the effort was rewarded with the most delicious breakfast cooked to perfection. Everyone in the party had different preferences but that didn’t faze Jackie our breakfast chef, who surpassed everyone’s expectations.
Paul and Jackie were the perfect hosts, catering to our every need, always cheerful and relaxed yet never intrusive, and providing lots of useful information about the surrounding area.
Spean Lodge is ideally placed for all sorts of outdoor activities, as it’s surrounded by beautiful mountains, lochs, glens and waterfalls - Steall Falls are particularly impressive - and is just a few miles from Ben Nevis and Fort William.
Even if you’re not that active or outdoorsy, it’s a perfect place to relax, read, play board games or just chat with a drink before a roaring log fire. The spacious and artistically designed lounge is perfect for getting together, after a stroll around the gardens with their huge variety of trees and shrubs set against a backdrop of river and mountains.
My friends and l had an unforgettable few days at Spean Lodge and can’t wait to return - thanks for your incredibly warm hospitality, Paul and Jackie!

Amazing B&B. We had such a lovely stay as a family. The house is located in a stunning garden and the interior is just amazing as well. Very tastefully and new decorated with a gorgeous lounge to hang out at an open fireplace in the evenings. We were made very welcome by Paul right from the start. We slept in the blue room as a family of 4 and the beds were so comfy we almost overslept the grand breakfast served downstairs. It is the prefect base to explore the area and we would highly recommend Spean lodge! Thank you Paul for your hospitality!

Spean Lodge is a wonderful place, providing an excellent base for visiting the beautiful Scottish Highlands. We loved our stay in the Wee Apartment, which is ideal for a family with two children (or four adults) - luckily the days have started getting longer, so we could explore nature and still enjoy the cosiness of the place. Our daughter says "the place looks like it popped out of a fairy tale, while providing awesomely awesome accommodation and wifi - which you won't need for screen time because the place is great!"! Our son loved meeting sheep in the area and collected 40 pine cones. Thank you, Paul, we will be back! 😊

Where do we start! Our stay at the Lodge was magical. The house is incredible, comfy beds, beautiful spaces, peace and quiet and a huge, gorgeous garden. Paul, Jackie, and David are the dream team of hospitality! Breakfasts were delicious (I'm badly missing that porridge) and there’s love and attention to detail everywhere you look. DEFINITELY coming back, thank you again for a wonderful experience.

We have just returned from a weekend stay at Spean Lodge. The accommodation was beautiful throughout, full of character and charm, stunning location by the river with lovely gardens. Very comfortable room, with thoughtful extra touches to welcome guests. We had an amazing breakfast both mornings, very attentive service received. Would highly recommend, if looking for a peaceful place to unwind after busy day exploring the fantastic surroundings.
Many thanks Paul for your hospitality.

Wonderful host and hostess. Brother and sister have beautifully renovated this old estate. Many details and clear attention have been paid to the furnishings. The very extensive and well-prepared breakfast by the fireplace was fantastic. The welcome was like coming home.
A nice place to explore the area and then relax in the lounge.

We stayed in the River View house for three nights with our two daughters. The accommodation was bigger than ours! Cozy, very well decorated and equipped. We were under the spell. The master suite is really large and the bedding is of very good quality. Taking advantage of the good weather (yes yes), we also spent time in the beautiful garden, drinking coffee, reading, playing with the children. Big advantage when cooking: you just have to cross the street to find a mini market. The accommodation is ideally located, close to Glen Coe and Ben Nevis. We also recommend going to the Morar side, to the west. The white sand beaches are dazzling. We thank Paul for his welcome and his availability. We hope that Spean Lodge will be very successful.
