Set in an area of designated natural beauty in the foothills of the Clwydian hills Pentre Mawr Country House has a lovely romantic feel to it...set as it is in nearly 200 acres of meadows, park and woodland. There are all the little extras that you would expect in a fine country house at Pentre but it is run on a much softer line. Meals are served either in the Oak room or the formal dining room but with none of the stuffiness. We are delighted to announce that we have received 5 Stars and a dining award from the AA There are two lovely sitting rooms all with comfy sofas and portraits of Graham's ancestors. The hidden walled garden is a lovely place to sit and read or just relax and smell the roses. We are more than happy to welcome guest dogs as we have two collies and two cats of our own here.

We were lucky enough to get married at Pentre Mawr this weekend and honestly couldn’t recommend the venue enough!

Bre, Graham, Abbey and Nina well and truly go out of their way to meet your every need as well as your guests. They truly open up their home to you and you really do feel as though you all become a part of their family.

There was never a request that was too much and they made each one of our guests feel as though they knew them personally which meant the world to us and our families and friends. We honestly felt as though ours was the only wedding that mattered to them and did everything they could to make sure our day ran as smoothly as possible.

The rooms the guests stayed in were amazing and were quick to change anything they could to make anyone’s stay that bit more comfortable.

If we could give them 10 stars we would!!!

We stayed in a safari lodge at Pentre Mawr as a surprise birthday treat for my partner who was to say the least absolutely blown away by the place. The grounds are spectacular and the location is stunning with the clwydian range right on the doorstep, the lodge was well equipped with a kitchen extra pillows and blankets and electric blanket and heater although we didn't need to use any. The jacuzzi was a definite winner we both left feeling refreshed and like we had spent a week at a spa. The lodge was clean with a huge bathroom with a bath and a shower, which came a a great surprise! We felt nothing was too much for Bre and Graham and you can tell instantly how much the care about the venue and the amount of work the have put into it. Thank you both for such a luxurious stay and transporting us to Africa!!

We arrived to the venue to be greeted by Abbie who I must say is a credit to the venue. She worked so hard and seemed to be everywhere tending to peoples needs and made the event special. After helping us set up she shown us to our room.

We stayed in a room in the main house which was bursting with character. We were impressed by the four poster bed and jacuzzi/bath in the room. We were given nice fluffy towels and robes. The only constructive criticisms was the room did need some TLC with the ceiling looking tired and the shower heads did not look very clean with scum.

We had a lovely evening meal the night before the wedding. Credit to the chef working and one again Abbie and a young gentleman who served us, as well as breakfast the following morning.
The self service breakfast was a lovely cooked full English with plenty to chose from if you didn’t want one.

The main wedding day and venue was lovely and all went well. They biggest disappointment however was a number of us found the owner/manager Bre extremely rude when speaking to guests. I personally found your attitude very unprofessional the way you spoke to me on the morning of the wedding regarding the farther of the bride and groomsmen. Also there was lots of negative comments from other guests and professionals regarding your abrupt attitude when conducting your photography. I feel you let your team down and the establishment by leaving a sour taste in a lot of Peoples mouths and that you need to work on your people skills.

To summarise, we had a lovely stay and felt that the large majority of staff worked extremely hard and was very accommodating. Well done to the team!

Firstly the venue is amazing! Absolutely beautiful grounds….food is ok, good selection.
That is unfortunately where it stops! We paid £300 for a safari tent, the sofa was ripped the decor was awful and the water was either too hot or too cold!
The tvs didn’t work in any of the rooms (we were part of bridal party) half the hot tubs weren’t working (Abbie did sort this, to add Abbie is amazing and probably the only saving Grace of this place!) the light at the back of out safari was not working.
The flooring in the marquee is uneven dangerously uneven with pins sticking out of the floor! I fell twisted my ankle in one of the ‘pot holes’ in the marquee.
I didn’t realise that for £300 the venue would NOT dispose of the rubbish (tea bags and food) from the tent…instead the bride and groom were left with it dumped next to their wedding cake!!!!
The management need to make people aware aswel when they are booking their weddings that you are literally getting the and I quote “brickwork” of the building for the eye watering sum EVERYTHING else is not included!! Not even table cloths! The evening before meal was £79 for two of us to eat….not worth then money we could have as a group gone to a local restaurant and had better!
Nina was extremely rude and hard to contact in the run upto the wedding and to be honest ruined the excitement of getting married for my friend!! Bre and graham are rude, totally rude! Shouting at people telling them “we have done weddings for 30 years” so what not everyone has the same type of wedding in mind! Ringing the bell to round us up like sheep!!It was pentre mawrs way or the highway down to every single last detail even how the photographs were taken! Would not ever go back which is a shame because under the right management and a decent refurb to bring into 2022 it could be a lovely place!

Response from , Owner at Pentre Mawr Country House
Responded 31 May 2022
First of all, thank you for reviewing Pentre Mawr and for your positive comments. I’m glad to have the opportunity to reply to them. I’ve got to say that if we get it wrong and we sometimes do we hold our hands up and sort it. I’m appalled that you should say that Nina was rude and unavailable. I’ve asked Nina not to give her number to our brides so they don’t bother her at home at all times. This morning I asked her to show me the text messages that passed between the bride and herself. They were buckets of them and to each very blunt message she got, she replied with care and attention. The bride didn’t reply to her phone calls and there were dozens of them too. Nina is not just polite, she fabulous and cares about every couple as if they were her own family. As far as myself and Graham being rude, I think having children running around wrecking our home had given some cause to be blunt. One child ended up in a raise trough in the walled garden, I’ve no idea how but we continuously had to take the children back to their parents. Even at 6 am the morning after the wedding we found a child wandering around the house unattended. There is a large pond here and we had fears that a child might have ended up in it. Our neighbours were disturbed at 2am by two teenage girls driving a car around the menage causing damage to the arena and their parent’s car so if my husband who had been woken by our neighbours after an 18 hour shift wasn’t polite, well all I can say is I’m sorry you were offended. Our neighbours were perfectly entitled to call the police as both girls were under age and driving without insurance or I suspect licence. My husband intervened and persuaded our neighbours not to take it any further. One hot tub out of 9 hadn’t heated up. We didn’t realise that the element had gone and have replace it. Every wedding someone retunes a TV, if our guests let us know we sort the TV’s for them. Of course we don’t ask our residents to take home all their rubbish but as we don‘t charge any corkage and allow our guests to bring their own drinks we do ask them to take their empties home with them. We’re on commercial bins and are charge by weight. We allow our couples bring in their own choice of caterer, it up to their caterer to supply and organise the table clothes. We use our own table clothes for dinner and breakfast. When a couple books their wedding with us they also book dinner the night before. The price was £39.50 per person for the wedding in 2020 and we haven’t put our prices up for any of the weddings that had to move due to covid. In fact, in order to try and make up for the move we included fizz cocktails, before dinner and wine with dinner. So Shouting!!! I’m sitting here trying to figure out how to reply to this. Yes, we use a bell, for fun and yes, we do call everyone together but shouting, if we didn’t then we’d never we able to get everyone together for the group shot and through to the marquee for the wedding breakfast. I can’t answer what the problem was with the marquee, it’s a temporary building and the floor does move but I truly haven’t found any potholes or pins. I’d like to say I have fond memories of this particular wedding but sadly I don’t, and I hope that anyone reading this will look at our other reviews and realise that we love our jobs, love doing weddings, love welcoming people, children and dogs to our home and will try very hard to move on from this review.

Myself, family and friends all stayed in the Safari lodges for two nights and it was nothing short of fantastic.

The Safari lodges were very spacious and warm, we had a kitchen area with a fridge and an oven. The bathroom was clean with a free standing bath and separate shower, with lots of towels provided. The hot tub was heated and ready on our arrival.

We also made use of the coffee machine in the kitchen area. Very handy in the morning after a few drinks the night before haha.

The owners were very welcoming and professional.

All in all a very enjoyable stay, we've already spoken about coming back in future!

Thank you Bree and Graham for hosting for all of us.

We have just come back after celebrating our long awaited wedding. We booked Pentre Mawr last minute having had two cancellations this last year. We are so glad we decided to book our special day/weekend at Pentre Mawr! From start to finish they have been exceptional. Communication was good in the lead up to the wedding and all questions were answered promptly! We arrived for our wedding weekend on a rainy Friday to set up. Following a busy day, we were then able to relax with a pre- wedding meal with our wedding party, we were well and truly looked after by Abbie and the team. After a restful night in the Bridal cottage we woke up to glorious sunshine for our wedding day!
The wedding party were treated to a full breakfast in the Hayloft dining room and the Bridal party were served in the Bridal cottage in between getting ready.
We decided to have our closest friend do the ceremony for us, having done the "legal" bit a few weeks earlier in Liverpool. I would highly recommend any couple to do this, our ceremony was absolutely perfect and personal to us. We managed to have a beautiful ceremony outside overlooking the Welsh countryside, we were unbelievably lucky with the weather!
We then partied the day and night away before ending up in a heap in our safari lodge. We were then treated to an additional night which was really nice to unwind after the day and open cards/presents.
The whole day was perfect from start to finish and we cant thank the whole team at Pentre Mawr enough for making our day so special. They really make an effort with the small touches to the day and there were a few surprises along the way!
Thank you!!
Jamie and Laura xx

We stayed at Pentre Mawr, the venue for our son's wedding, last weekend with a large group of family and friends. Staying for two nights, the Friday and Saturday, we had the most enjoyable time and would 100% recommend this venue. The hosts were excellent and couldn't do enough for you. The house, gardens and surrounding area is simply stunning (the weather helped, it's always sunny in N Wales!). The garden area was particularly in the most perfect condition and helped to produce what was an excellent week-end.

A huge thanks to Bre, Graham, Nina and Abbie along with all the Pentre Mawr team that contributed to our perfect wedding day. It had been delayed by 2 years, due to pandemic, but it was definitely worth the wait. The venue is fantastic. A hidden gem nestled at the foot of the Clwydian Hills range in Denbighshire. Great open spaces, converted barns and secret gardens make for a magical stay. The accommodation is conf, quirky and fun. The main house is an eclectic mix of family memorabilia and the safaris tents are magical whisking you off to the savannah plains once through the door. All with luxury furnishing to make for a memorable stay. The team were fantastic; professional and personable in their approach. Nina’s support and meticulous planning guided us through from day one of booking to the big day. Abbie coordinated the wedding from arrival on Friday, Bre’s homemade and sumptuous welcome meal, and the big day itself ensuring we were able to relax and fully enjoy the weekend. Bre and Graham were the perfect hosts. Nothing was too much trouble and using their experience, friendly and fun loving nature they ensured our special day was just perfect. Thank you everyone.

Excellent venue and the grounds are brilliant and extremely well kept. The staff and owners couldn't be more helpful and made the whole party feel welcome. The accomodation itself is great and staying in a safari style lodge in rural North Wales is a great idea!

We've just celebrated our eldest son's wedding at this most amazing of venues. If anyone is planning a wedding in the future then look no further than Pentre Mawr.

Arriving Friday afternoon, we checked into one of their fantastic safari lodges and just relaxed in the hot tub before the delicious pre wedding family meal. Then Saturday, the wedding, which was seamless. Abi the wedding planner was so professional and personable and made it all look so easy .

We were lucky with the weather so the ceremony was conducted outside with the fantastic views but never fear, if raining there's a beautiful marquee in the secret garden.

Bre and Graham, the owners, have a wonderful place and should be very proud with what they've achieved.

Big thank you to them and Abi.

I don’t know how much my daughter paid but I know it was much better value than hotel quotes in Betws y Coed, everything was clear, no hidden nasties and Pentre Mawr delivered all they promised and more. Strongly recommend speaking to them and if they are in your reach, use them.
