I met two friends in another pousada in Lencois and followed them to dos Duendes to have a look, since Mowgli from Duendes had given me a flyer for the place the night before and had even carried my heavy bag to the other pousada. Duendes is up a hill on the northwest corner of the main town, but it is incredibly relaxing to chill out there on one of the hammocks or to play chess in the outdoor lounge off of the kitchen. They also have wifi that is a bit slow but seemed to work most of the time. The staff was incredibly friendly, especially Sebastian, who can also give you a tattoo, if you are interested. Mstly, it was the incredible people that I met at Duendes that I hung out with for the rest of my week in Lencois that truly made my experience at the pousada.

I loved the dorm room where I stayed because each bed had a plug! It was the first place that I had seen that in my time in Brazil. There was also an ensuite shower for each dorm room and another shower out in the main room that made things easier when more people arrived. The kitchen near our dorm room was a little small for cooking but did have a decent sized refrigerator.

I recommend booking a capoeira class from reception. I tried it and it was a lot of fun!

There is also a restaurant run by an Austrian down the street called Ba Cana and it was also a favorite of the Duendes guests.

One tip: The roosters do start crowing at what seems like 3am and the windows didn't fully shut in our room. Keep the ear plugs handy if you are a light sleeper.

I didn't try the tours, but there were several on offer and I've heard that the guides are very good.

Stay at Duendes! I loved it and can't wait until I return one day!

From many angles, this seems to be the perfect hostel. A great outside common area with hammocks, a pool table, wifi and a book exchange. Helpful staff that speak good english, know a lot about the surroundings and are very helpful in planning your stay.

Our double room and the shared bathroom were clean, so no complaints here. Did not use the common kitchen, but it exists, which is a plus, especially if you stay longer.

Breakfast was great. Most things are freshly made, among which were things like fried bananas, cakes, something that tasted like a sort of quiche, awesome mini-rolls and fruit, plus the obligatory coffee, milk, water and juice. Tip: Rise early. Many guests do tours that start early, and if you are not one of those, the best things might be gone when you finally get up.

The hostel seems to be directly connected with H2O-Tours, which is extremely convenient for organizing tours into chapada. However, I strongly recommend to also check with the local agencies (e.g. Chapada Adventure Daniel). Although the tours are generally similar, you might save some money.

Friendly and helpful staff. Very chill hostel/pousada. Great common areas with hammocks and fruit trees. A little way from the centre of town but worth it. Large lockers in the dorm, with a light and power socket beside each bed. Great breakfast. Would def recommend this place

Having read the enthusiastic reviews in advance, I have to admit that I was rather disappointed when confronted with the reality:
- The ensuite room was really, really basic (the same goes for the bathroom) and rather small, whilst the rate was not exactly cheap (you will get much, much more for the same money in Lencois)
- It was noisy. Yes, a place for backpackers has to be noisy - in the evening, but not a 0630am (preparations undertaken by the staff for the breakfast in the adjacent kitchen).
- The breakfast was - for Brazilian standards - below average, both when it came to the quantity of the dishes, as well as the quality...
- The organization of the tours was, to put it mildly, sub-optimal. The staff undertook no initiative to try to bundle the people for the tours, in the end one would have undergone the risk of paying the - very ambitious - price for a "single person"-tour, if no other persons had signed up. In the end most of the people booked excursions with the agencies in the city centre in order to avoid this risk...

I stayed here as it was the highest rated 'hostel' on a hostel booking site. It was certainly nice here, but it wasn't unbelievably great.

Positives - free breakfast is always good. The pousada is located on a big property so there is plenty of space. And the bunks were comfy. A small 'common' area for meeting others. And hot showers. Its not bad.

Negatives - No kitchen (so no chance to cook up a good feed after hiking or prepare lunch for your treks). Yes they provide 'day lunches' but some people want their own choice. The bed sheets just didn't seem to fit the bed properly. I'd wake up in a tangle of sheets. The breakfast provided was either really good or really bad. Its hard to work that out. And perhaps staff can be a little more helpful with planning activities (they seemed to want sell their tours more than anything else). Its also a little far from the centre of town (that can be a positive too).

Its overall, rather good but needs a bit of improving (maybe a nicer chill out area with a tv for movies or providing a kitchen to guests for dinner.

This place was just fine for what we were looking for in Lencois- an ecenomically priced jumping off point for treks - but my camera and kindle were stolen out of my room the last day I was there. Based on a purchase that was made on my kindle by the thief before I had a chance to lock it, it's clear the thief was a fellow traveler and nobody from the pousada or surrounding community but I found the pousada's reaction to the theft pretty frustrating- they didn't believe me at first, the woman at reception just sat there responding to emails on her computer apparently under the assumption that I'd lost the stuff. When it became clear that that wasn't the case and I started asking about filing a police report and talking to other guests about the theft, she got up and went to double-check the room and showed a bit more empathy, but continuously reiterated that this had never happened before and asked if i'd maybe lost them somewhere else. The security is lax - the keys hang on the wall in the office at the entrance and you grab your own key (or someone else's, apparently) when the office is empty, which was the case 2-3 times during my stay. I've seen this system in other pousadas in brazil but will avoid places that operate that way in the future.

One thing that this person was very helpful with was helping us arrange a group and guide for a trek- I really appreciated that aspect of the hostel. The trek itself was spectacular but I reccomend avoiding Rao as a guide. He didn't bother learning anybody's name, never checked to see how we were doing, only stopped when someone asked to, just not very friendly. The last day I was sick on the hike (stomach) and he frankly didn't care. He is a great cook though!

We stayed at Pousada Dos Duendes for 3 nights, but would have booked at least one more night if we had the time. The pousada looks great and has the best hang out area to relax in hammocks or just meet up with the other guests and make plans for the excursions.

The rooms look really nice and the paintings of elfs and funny things make it special. Breakfast is very good, with a lot of homecooked bakery and fresh fruits.

The pousada has its own tour agency H2O with very friendly people, giving the best advice. We wanted to do the standard tour with Gruta Lapa Doce, but they advised us a different tour with an even better cave Gruta da Torrinha and this way we didn't see any other tourists and had the Diablo waterfall all to ourselves.

We also wanted to visit Poco Azul, but none of the agencies could organize the trip, since there were no other tourist for this excursion for that day. At H2O they organised a guide especially for us, who took us there and we had 3 amazing hours alone at the most magical place of Brazil.

Just wish we had more days to see all the highlights of Chapada Diamantina.

The hostel itself was rather nice, we had a hammock on the terrasse. And breakfast is really nice! lots of different cakes to eat! The best in Brazil.
However, I thought the pousada was a bit far from the center, which makes harder to organize trips.

Talking about tours (because that's why you come to Lencois), I think they were really unprofessional. So there are tons of different alternatives, but you need to be at least 3 or 4. You would think they would try to make effort to coordinate people! But no, you are supposed to do that job yourself!!!
As a result, I could not do anything on my last day there. We were supposed to do something, and the person at the reception did not make lots of effort, and after some time both the driver and the guide had cancelled on us!

Cleanliness was not amazing, we found a dead lizard in the room!

But the worst was the lady at the front desk (the wife of the boss as I understood). First she lied many times to clients in front of me, saying things about the tours that were incorrect. When I corrected her, she decided to hate me, and was very unpleasant with me. She gave a discount to people in front of me, and then told me that I "did not deserve it", for some reasons that did not make any sense. (I had booked 4 nights there, and all my trips with them). It was really shocking! What a total lack of professionalism!

Located near the city center offers simple accommodations for a reasonable price !
If you are staying in Lençóis doing the tours it is a good option!
Their breakfast is good and many things are made by themselves !
At least in my room there was no air conditioner, just a small fan!
No TV as well!
