Hostel was cheap and that's about it. Our room did not lock, though we had a key it could not lock from the outside. One night I woke oh to find the front door wide open (onto a busy main road) and the back door was open also. Effectively the whole place was open to the public. Inside the room... More

We stayed here on a RTW trip and found probably the best hospitality of anywhere we went. The owners were both lovely and very helpful and the facilities were good. It is a short walk to the CBD but past parks & the MCG so an enjoyable walk...otherwise the tram stops quite close. (Stay was a couple of years ago)

The Freeman Lodge is about a 20 minute walk into the CBD but the area is a bit scary at night. Bob is great and provides really useful information and help renting cars. The hostel has a very friendly atmosphere. The hostel is located on a busy street so it can get very loud at night.

This is one of the nicest, friendliest, and considerate hostels I have stayed at.....and I have stayed at many! Bob and Christine go above and beyond to make you feel welcomed and help you in any way possible; whether it be booking a tour/trip, hiring a car, or even recommending a place to eat. I stayed there for 6 weeks... More

Freeman Lodge is a smallish hostel/pension near the Cricket Grounds in Melbourne. The owners are fantastic - very helpful and informative. It feels less like a hostel and more like a home away from home, complete with Keith the cat, homemade goodies and friendly living areas. We loved this place and stayed much longer than we'd initially planned. It's not... More
