I do all sorts of traveling and have stayed in tents, $10 "pensions", hostels, true 5-star hotels, and luxury ecolodges. I can certainly appreciate the good things at any price point. This hotel was built with a whole lot of concrete + materials...it was not exactly a cheap development. IOW, with a bit of consciousness, something nice could have been...

This property is managed by Alejo, a warm Tico who is incredibly kind and accommodating. Alejo actually manages two properties: this one by the beach, and another one -- a restaurant and set of cabinas -- up the mountain about 15 minutes. Playa Luna is an attractive and well appointed, privately owned aparthotel, with elegant gardens, a large pool located in a secluded spot within 5 minutes walk of parque nacional marino ballena. My family and I stayed here for 5 days. We loved it! We had plenty of room and a full kitchen. The pool was big and had a nice shade to keep it from getting too hot. There was no daily service, but we liked it that way. The manager was very friendly, but did not speak much English, but...
