My wife and I could not possibly dream up a more perfect honeymoon than our 7-day trip to Kura. It lived up to and exceeded all expectations on every level.

I'll break up my detailed review into certain categories below:

The Property: There are so many amazing things about Kura, but I should first highlight the beauty of the property itself. It is STUNNING. We could tell that every single thing was built with thought and careful intention. The looks on people's faces (including our own) when they first walk up the stairs to see the view for the first time say it all. We spent the majority of our time in the main infinity pool area because of the amazing view and the infinity pool. The main restaurant is right there as well, and the bar. I've traveled around to over 30 countries, and the open-air 360 view of the ocean right in front and the mountainous jungle behind is unrivaled anywhere in the world. The views from the rooms and spa are just as great. There are only 8 rooms total on the property so it always feels private. We even had the place basically to ourselves for several days as folks went out for excursions, which was just an added bonus. One additional part we really loved is that Kura organizes short on-site events and activities, such as ceviche class, mask painting, and tamale class. We really enjoyed the opportunity to learn about the local culture and took some of our new knowledge to use at home.

The Staff: I should next highlight the 5-star service provided by all the staff. We left having felt like we made new friends with everyone we met over the course of the week. They are all so friendly and such genuine people, and went above and beyond to make sure we were happy at all times. We don't want to leave anyone out, but because we interacted the most with them, a special shout out to Adrian (concierge) and Jairo (service), and of course to the rest of the entire Kura staff. You are all part of what makes Kura so special, and the reason why we will be back in the future.

The Food: We really enjoyed trying all of the local Costa Rican dishes, especially ceviche and chifrijo! All of the food is delicious, and my wife has celiac which the kitchen was able to accommodate easily. She never felt limited on options. We also loved the fresh fruit and warm bread with breakfast, and all of the dinner specials. You will definitely never go hungry here. They also organized a private romantic dinner for one of our nights paired with wines, which we very much enjoyed. The drink menu is creative and has something for everyone. I definitely made my down that menu!

The Spa: Spa Sha is Kura's on-site spa, which is also an open-air concept and beyond relaxing. I'm not even much of a massage person. We did two treatments (romantic treat and signature massage), both of which were incredible. We also loved the poolside complimentary massages in the mornings. A special thank you to the spa staff!

Our Room: Kura was kind enough to upgrade us for our honeymoon to the Master Suite, which we are incredibly thankful for. The room was absolutely stunning...the best we've ever seen anywhere in the world and better than any Four Seasons or other brand-name luxury property. The design is just incredible. We will be back to book this room in the future for sure! You have an iPad to communicate with the concierge if you ever need anything brought to your room, which is a convenient touch. We loved waking up each morning to the birds and monkeys outside, and having coffee in our plunge pool. You feel like at all times you are immersed in the jungle, but also with an ocean view in total and complete privacy.

Excursions: Kura has an excursion book you can look through to pick and choose from, and coordinates everything for you. We did the zipline canopy tour and ATV tour, both of which we highly recommend for anyone who loves adventure. There are tons of options for non-adventure folks too. Two outside excursions were perfect for us, as we wanted to (and did) spend most of our time enjoying the property, either at the main infinity pool or outside in our plunge pool. The best part of Kura is the property itself, but we definitely recommend getting out to do an excursion or two to explore the local area and mountains. We got to do some really fun waterfall slides and jumps out there.

Getting there: The road up and down is FUN...as long as you are not driving. Kura makes everything so easy for you. They will arrange local flights and drivers so you don't have to risk driving up the road yourself. So much fun as a passenger. Also a special shoutout to all the Kura drivers!

Other noteworthy mentions: Thankfully this happened on our last day, but my wife had a sudden ear infection and Kura was beyond helpful to us. We are very appreciative of this. The staff got her right to a local clinic and she had medication in her hand and we were back at the resort in under an hour (FAR better care than America!). Your mind can be at ease if medical care is a concern to you while traveling abroad. Also, we did a short trip to the beach down below to see the famous Whale's Tail. That was nice, but again, Kura's property is by far the highlight. We've never spent as much time and had as much fun as we did in Kura's infinity pool, and lounging with drinks in-hand poolside.

The beauty of Kura, 5-star friendly staff, the food, and total seclusion are all that makes Kura the perfect destination for a honeymoon, romantic getaway, or unique luxury trip with friends. We've never left a vacation feeling as relaxed and happy as this one. I also recognize this is not going to be in everyone's price range, but if it's in the range of what you typically spend on travel, it's worth every penny. And, for what it's worth, a 7-day trip to Kura would be better than a 14-day trip anywhere else in the world.

We can't wait to return, either on our own or with friends and family. Nos vemos pronto, y Pura Vida!

I almost don’t want to review Kura because I don’t want the secret to get out, but this place is just amazing. There are only 8 rooms (suites really) and it’s adults only so there’s no way to feel crowded. From the welcome drinks to the service staff remembering our names and favorite foods the experience was personal and as welcoming as humanly possible. In all directions there are epic views, abundant trees and wildlife. The rooms are modern and eco-conscious with stylish accents and huge windows. The food is wonderful and made on site with excellent attention to detail and dietary restrictions. I have Celiac Disease and the staff were all very careful with food preparation. I felt like I ate like a queen all week and didn’t get sick once. I really can’t say enough wonderful things about Kura and I hope you’ll stay here if you are able. It will make a lasting impression and you won’t be sorry. A week after we got home we had already made plans to return.

The Kura experience was nothing but extraordinary. Between making the reservation in January 2002 and our stay in March, we stayed in contact with the staff by email as we planned our trip. They provided just the right amount of information in a timely manner. Efficient and not overbearing. From the moment we entered the property, we were greeted by a warm, friendly staff who were able to anticipate our needs and knew our names and peccadilloes . We had all of meals on the property and never tired of the food selection. The breakfast juices were special. We had reserved a few activities (such as a jungle hike) on our own, but this was entirely unnecessary. All activities could be arranged beforehand by the Kura staff! When we learned that our guide for our tour that we arranged on our own had become ill and could not meet with us, the Kura staff jumped to action and were able to secure another guide. The activities that were arranged by the Kura staff were all fantastic! All of our travel off of the property was incredibly well-choreographed with comfortable rides arranged and a bottle of cold water at our side. An incredible respite in a time of spiking virus.

We booked the Kura Boutique Hotel for 2 nights at a very steep 1.400 USD a night. But given all the positive news and posts about it we expected a lot, maybe too much and conclude overall, a great place but certainly overpriced for what it is.
The rooms are spacious and private, nicely designed with the most amazing views one can dream of. Avoid room number 3 and 4 as they are next to the kitchen.
The staff is very kind, informal and some excel more than others.
Beverage selection, in particular the wines rather poor for this type of Hotel, they need to improve urgently. Food quality good and fairly priced.
Sergio the waiter, Lalo the driver and Maria José from reception were top.
The pool is nicely overlooking the hills running down to the Pacific and all is being looked after and maintained well. Owner is an architect and the Architect of the Hotel.
Clientele was a bit distanced, dont know why that is, maybe guests are intimidated somehow by the setting and arrangement, but except one couple nobody greets really in the morning or evening which I found somehow weird.
So overall 8 out of 10 points which can easily go to 9.

Thank you for your review and thank you for staying with us over this holiday season 2020/21. It meant a lot to us. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay and are especially thankful for all the personalized mentions of our staff. This means a lot to them. We are sorry that you did not find the other guests to be social. Typically, this is not the case, but with the Pandemic, everybody tends to keep a bit of a distance these days.. We are just about to implement a premium wine menu that we are sure you would be very pleased with. We will work hard to get from 8 to 10 soon. Please come back to Kura or the other Cayuga Collection Hotels and Lodges soon. Saludos.

Kura was a very memorable experience. Cindi was in touch before my arrival to deal with special requests, questions, and our tour itinerary. Communication was great and all of my questions were quickly answered. Cindi and her staff set up private transportation to and from San Jose, made arrangements for our activities, and even arranged for a special lobster dinner on our final evening, even though it was not listed on the menu.
Everything at Kura was convenient and well planned. Upon arrival we were given an iPad to use during our stay. It was linked to our room and could be used to message the staff with questions or requests. We used it to order room service, ask about the menu specials each evening, and even to request complementary laundry service. The front desk also sent reminders before our tours about pick up times and what to bring. Both the ATV tour and the kayak trip to the whale tail were awesome.
As other guests have mentioned, the scenery and layout of the property were beautiful and the staff was very friendly and professional. Everyone went out of their way to make us feel welcome and appreciated. The chef was also exceptional. My favorite things on the menu were the steak, the eggs Benedict for breakfast, and of course my special grilled lobster.
Kura was a warm and classy experience. Special thanks to Cindi, Sergio, Laura, and the entire staff. Great job and thanks for an unforgettable week!

My husband and I celebrated our 10th anniversary in Uvita and loved everything about our 5 nights at Kura! It’s a unique property that is made so special with its incredible views from every room. We splurged on the master suite, which has its own large private infinity pool that can be heated, and an oversized balcony overlooking the mountains down to the whale tale at Marino Ballena National Park. Every inch of the Kura property is beautiful and maximizes the view. The grounds are well maintained and clean, the rooms are very private & quiet, and the food and drinks are great.

The staff were wonderful. It’s easy to communicate with the concierge via an iPad. Whether it’s scheduling tours, a spa treatment, or ordering food to be delivered to the room, they were kind, quick to respond, and happy to help us with the logistics of our stay as much or as little as we needed. We enjoyed Sergio, Luis, Mike, Jairo, Daniel, and Adrian this week and how well they took care of us. We hope to be back!

Just WOW! From the moment we arrived to the moment we left. Kura was the perfect getaway for my boyfriend and I. Kura provides everything needed for a private/quiet getaway as well as a great location to the beach and many activities. Also, Kura will set up your own personal itinerary which is super helpful. The staff makes you feel like royalty! Shout out to Cindy, Sergio, and Luis. Can’t wait to return as it was the perfect paradise with the most incredible views.

As we made our way up the steep gravel and mud road my partner was starting to freak out, unaccumstomed to the unique roads of Costa rica.
By the time we reached Kura she was wondering what was going on and where we were staying.
Five minutes later our luggage had been taken to our room, the car parked and we were drinking a tasty cocktail, looking out at the whales tail without a care in the world.
This sums up Kura.
With sensational views, fantastic rooms and staff attentive to your every need, this is definitely the place to unwind, relax and enjoy time with your partner .

We stayed 3 nights and didn't leave the complex, as didn't want to waste the experience.

The pool is one of a kind, food exceptional and afternoon mini events, like rum tasting, cocktail making and cooking experiences were a great add on.

This is definitely for honeymooners, lovers and people who just want to get away from hustle and bustle. Tucons spotted daily, along with all the other unusual Insects and animals.

I think staying for too long might be too much and we were sorry to leave after 3 nights and could have stayed 4 or 5. Its definitely a destination versus a base for exploring the area

Recommended highly

My wife and I always wanted to go to Costa Rica and I came across Kura while looking at different options. A lot of people go up to the northern part of the country for the volcanoes and the cloud forest, which also look great. Kura looked so appealing from the reviews and photos that we decided to give the southern side a try first. We are SO glad that we did!

The 15 minute drive up the mountainside to the resort really primes you for the experience to come. The grounds are beautiful and really feel like they are part of the gorgeous scenery around it. I worked with the concierge prior to our arrival and they arranged our whole itinerary, which was pretty ambitious. They made sure everything was taken care of and I could not be more impressed. The food each day is great and we never got tired of the options despite staying there for a week. The food options are all locally sourced and healthy. The cocktails at the bar are all delicious as well.

The room was amazing with a huge suite and double rain shower, which can open out to your patio. The views from the room patio of the Whale's Tail are incredible. Everything just feels so luxurious with incredible attention to detail.

The staff might even be the best part. Every single member of the team from the desk to the bar to the kitchen to the spa were excellent, courteous and attentive. After a week we felt like we practically knew all of them and they really enhanced our stay to atmospheric levels. The local people of Uvita are just as great.

I could go on and on but the bottom line is that this is the best vacation we have ever taken. If you are considering a trip to Costa Rica and are looking for an adults-only experience, I can't imagine a better one.

Thank you for sharing your experience at Kura with us. We are very excited to know that we surpassed your expectations and really appreciate your comments, especially on the staff and service. We also congratulate you on "breaking out" of the same old itinerary in northern Costa Rica and exploring the south. And as you mention, you did not regret it. The rain forest, the mountains, the waterfalls and the untouched beaches are a big attraction. Please come back soon to Kura or to any of the other Cayuga Collection Sustainable Luxury Hotels and Lodges in Costa Rica and Panama. All the best.

I loved all about this hotel and we had an amazing experience. The staff is beyond friendly and they are very thoughtful. One thing I valued a lot is their vegetarian options and disposition to make dishes vegetarian upon request. Sometimes is difficult to find delicious non-animal meals and this hotel was great at that. I even had vegetarian sushi. I would give it more starts if I could.
