We stayed at Rancho Pacifico for four nights and absolutely loved every minute. The staff goes above and beyond to not only look after your needs but anticipate them and make your stay totally worry free. The resort itself is picturesque, the room was well appointed and private. That soaker tub made for a lovely retreat on a rainy afternoon. We highly recommend the Mangrove Boat Tour and a massage at the spa on-site. The food was so tasty and fresh. A special shout out to Steven, Sharon, Andrey and Vianney. But truly, the whole staff makes for the most amazing stay. Thank you and we hope to come back for another stay!

From the moment we landed, every detail was managed for us by the gracious and humble owners of this unique luxury boutique resort. I was invited by a friend to join him with another couple. We stayed in an extremely spacious villa atop the mountain with views that were surreal. All of the villas have a complete indoor/outdoor feel, as if you truly are living within the jungle, just in the most luxurious way. We woke to sounds of monkeys and toucans and in the most lush green mountains with a perfect view of Whales Tale in the Pacific Ocean.
The living and dining ‘rooms’ are all open air and provide a lovely serene location to mingle with the other guests or quietly take in the views and sounds. And endless pool, cabana area, jacuzzi hot tub, and a grassy landing with Adirondack chairs await you as you walk up the beautifully lit path to the reception desk area. These areas are the ‘living room’ as we called it and the ‘dining room’ which was just to the left of the path that separates the living area from dining area and leads down to the fitness facility and another villa tucked below.
A well stocked bar is perfectly located in between the 2 communal spaces and a special drink is featured nightly from 5-6pm during happy hour. This was the perfect gathering spot where most guests converged after a day excursion or hiking or simply lounging poolside. The intimate boutique experience was new to me and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Dinner was always a 4 course meal with options of protein and a surprise dessert. The food is prepared fresh daily and expertly combined to showcase local flavors that compliment every course. Breakfast and lunches are menu ordered and there are several scrumptious options along with freshly prepared juices daily.
I think the greatest part of my trip was the intimate interaction with the very pleasant staff and resort owners. It felt like you were truly visiting in someone’s incredible luxury home. I never felt bombarded yet I always felt welcomed, quietly attended to by the staff, and authentically engaged by the sweet friendly resort owners, Mark and Marlo.

If you are looking for an incredible boutique vacation experience that caters to luxury and eco-minded travelers, RANCHO PACIFICA is the premier Costa Rican destination.

I spent a week in late sept/early october in the villa romantica with my wife on our honeymoon. It was a great experience. We were a little nervous as it was rainy season, but it actually turned out great. We had a few clear days and a few days with rain mixed in, but the setting on the side of the mountain with a view of the water was great, rain or shine. On rainy days, it was relaxing listening to the sound of the rain while enjoying great views. Most mornings were clear and we took the opportunity to go on excursions and the concierge staff (Daniela and Steven) did a great job of making our lives easy and helping to set up everything.

The service was second to none, the team made sure our room was clean and we always had anything we needed (they would clean the room multiple times a day, which is great when you are going to the beach, pool, hiking through dirt etc).

The food was also great. We had breakfast there everyday, which was included with the room and it was always fresh. While their definition of avocado toast was kind of amusing to my wife, the food was still always good. The dinner was a daily custom menu 4 course meal designed by their chefs, reasonably priced (always $49 per person) for the quality and freshness. We ate most of our dinners at the beautiful restaurant area as it got dark.

Overall, it was a great experience and we hope to come back. One of the owners was on site at the time and was very friendly (Mark), while the other owner (Marlo) helped coordinate everything for us beforehand and was extremely responsive via email. The service was second to none and made us fall in love with Costa Rica.

My wife and I stayed at Rancho Pacifico during April and could not be more pleased with our trip. The positives of staying there are numerous, the most notable being the grounds the resort is on. Perched on the mountain over Uvita, the vistas are breathtaking, with modern and clean open-air facilities abound. Each room/bungalow feels secluded from others, offering a sense of privacy and a feeling you’re the only ones there. The gym is small and hot, but there’s enough there to get a good sweat in. What’s particularly cool is they have their own hiking trails right off the facilities, with no transport needed. The chefs do a bang-up job with breakfast, lunch, and dinner based on your dietary needs with fresh ingredients and exquisite recipes.

What we appreciated the most was the attention and care the staff gave us. Since it has a smaller capacity (20 people max or so), each staff member caters to your needs and is very friendly to interact with. We didn’t have any activities planned and didn’t know what to expect, but RP makes it quite easy to plan your trip on the fly with a preset list of activities (fishing, waterfall repelling, etc.) to choose from. This really took the out the stress of planning and transportation.

It is a bit of a hike to get there (~3.5 hours from San Jose airport) and the 15 minute drive up and down the mountain is bumpy and expensive as you’re charged for the taxi service each time. However, the location, the facilities, the service, and the staff make it worth it 10/10 times.

We are still talking about the trip and couldn’t recommend it highly enough for adults (no <18 kids allowed) who want to find the perfect balance of relaxation and adventure without the stress.

Regardless of whether you’re considering a trip to Rancho Pacifico as something you can afford anytime, only once every few years or maybe it's a once in lifetime trip for you-- Do it! You’ll have no regrets. Great for couples. Would make an amazing girls trip. If we could rewind time and have a destination wedding, Rancho Pacifico would be perfect. It's surreal in natural beauty, architecture, location and most of all quality of service.

Location. Property aesthetic. Views. Service. Everything came with high expectations and all were exceeded. Daniella & Steven were an amazing concierge duo. Coffee question at midnight or excursion interest at 7am; they're on top of it. Most of all, they're genuine and engaging. Vianney at the bar pours a strong drink and is an equally good listening ear. Andrey, Jerson and the rest of the staff were made our week stay a very memorable one.

Far from the crowds of San Jose, Rancho Pacifico is just up the mountain from any number of natural activities Costa Rica offers. Horseback riding on the beach (Rancho La Merced), Whitewater Rafting (Amigos Del Río), ATV tour (Jungle ATV) or Kayaking/Snorkeling & surfing (Ballena Bahia Kayak Tours), it’s all a quick drive away. The staff at RP is most than happy to research and schedule whatever you may need. Endulge in a spa service, the view of the sunrise or sunset as you're being worked on quite literally in the middle of the forest is straight out of a movie.

We watched every youtube video and review for Rancho Pacifico we could find prior to our trip and we were still blown away by everything at RP.

Whether you stay at the property enjoying the food, spa and on property waterfall, or go out daily for an adventure elsewhere, RP is the perfect compliment to a trip to Costa Rica.

Strongly encourage folks to read the "Before You Book" portion of RP's website. We enjoyed everything about our stay. That said, if you're looking for big tv's, golfing and are afraid of bugs, you may wish to look somewhere else. You're in the rainforest waking up to hear howler monkeys from bed and watching Toucans from your shower. There's nothing on a tv better than that. Bugs are a part of the rainforest. That said, the facilities are spotless, the bugs are simply due to location, not lack of care.

Rancho Pacifico has been the best hotel we’ve been to thus far. The food and drinks were amazing. The avocado toast was absolutely delicious and I highly recommend the pineapple basil martini. All the staff were attentive to everything and really focused on ensuring all the guests received optimal service. Noelia, Steven, Andrey, Jerson, and Vianney, were great. From the minute you arrive, everyone addresses you by your name. They ask you about your food preferences once you arrive and from then on cater all your meals around it. The room had an amazing view of the forest and ocean and every time you leave your room for a meal or excursion, you come back to a newly cleaned room. The staff’s attention to detail is out of this world. I also recommend getting a massage while there. The ambiance of the spa is amazing as it is in a tree house. It was so tranquil and romantic. Everything was taken care of for you. Any trips off the hotel grounds for either shopping or excursions was planned and coordinated by the staff on your behave. This was amazing because it allowed us to just sit back and enjoy every aspect of our trip without worrying about anything. We will definitely be returning in the future.

We love to travel and see new places but Rancho Pacifico has changed our mindset. This is by far our favorite place we've ever visited, so much that when we had a rare opportunity to travel without our kids twice in a year, we chose to return to RP. What brought us back: we loved that we could be as active or lazy as we wanted on any given day. On our first visit, we did several excursions and loved them all! This visit, we wanted a more 'relaxed' trip and didn't leave the 'mountain'. We spent our mornings hiking on the nearby trails and our afternoons lounging on the balcony listening to the toucans sing. After visit #1, we dreamed of the delicious meals and handcrafted cocktails that cannot be replicated at home! Neither disappointed on this visit. The staff and owners show genuine passion for what they do and everyone goes above and beyond to give guests an amazing experience. RP is truly paradise. Our one and only complaint is that RP has spoiled us!! :) Looking forward to visit #3!

You fly to San Jose. After landing and getting through customs, a comfortable and clean SUV picks you up with no issues and the friendly driver even stops to show you the biggest crocodiles in Costa Rica. You drive up a steep hill/mountain, higher than other resorts in the area. Rancho Pacifico is situated on this mountain, overlooking the jungle through the clouds. Noelia or Steven greets you, shows you the grounds, and tells you everything you need to know. Welcome to tropical paradise!
There aren't many rooms and only about 20 adult guests, and you have plenty of privacy. While waking up to howler monkeys and Toucans, the property is quiet and serene. The meals are exquisite, personalized and gourmet. Locally sourced and environmentally conscious, but also delicious and generous portions. We went for our honeymoon and it was absolutely perfect. We'll see you in a few years Mark and Marlo!

Rancho Pacifico is set high above Uvita on Costa Rica's Pacific coast. We were traveling with another couple and when we arrived at the registration desk the four us reflexively walked out to a lawn area that opened up to a view of the ocean and the famous Uvita Whale's Tail beach. It took several minutes for Noelia, the patient concierge, to gently gather us so we could check-in. We later learned that this is a common reaction for first time guests. I cannot overstate how stunning the views are from this amazing hotel.

We booked the large Whale's Tail villa which is a short walk, or even shorter shuttle, up the hill from the main RP dining and pool area. Our villa had three bedrooms, a large open sitting area and a small kitchen. We also enjoyed the heated plunge pool. We were surrounded by trees and felt as if we were floating above the Pacific.

Beyond the physical setting, the most memorable part of our stay was the staff. The owners, Mark and Marlo, have created a work family. Many of the staff have worked with them for several years or more and the cohesiveness, efficiency, attention to detail and professionalism of the team all stood out. Yet, although RP is undeniably a 5-star luxury hotel, the staff and the owners make it feel as if you are a part of a community.

I also have to emphasize the quality and inventiveness of the food. We ate all of our dinners on-site during our 4 day stay. The chef went out of his way to address personal food preferences and each meal was especially creative and offered refined combinations of fish, meat and vegetarian options.

A final note. We traveled in early January of 2022. We needed to do a COVID test the day before our flight back to the US. The RP staff and owners went out of their way to be helpful and reassuring as we navigated an online testing protocol.

This is one of the nicest places I've ever stayed in. You will be amazed.

We recently vacationed with family at Rancho Pacifico and could not have chosen a better place to stay. The Whales Tail Villa is a beautiful 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom private villa with amazing views of the forest and Whale's Tail beach. From our balcony, bedroom and even bathroom windows we were able to see toucans, coatis and other birds and animals in the wild.

The resort is fantastic, with a beautiful pool, hot tub. covered and uncovered lounging areas, a lovely bar and wonderful dining area overlooking the trees and ocean. They even have a fitness room if the hiking trails near the property or your other outdoor adventures don't wear you out.

The owners, Mark and Marlo, were extremely welcoming, as were the incredible staff. Each and every staff member was engaging, addressed us by name and took care of our every need and answered all of our questions. Steven, Sharon and Noelia handled booking all of our excursions, recommending the best guides and activities to fit what we wanted to do, and also offered valuable Information about the area. They provided beach chairs, towels and a beach umbrella to take with us on our day at Uvita Beach where we walked the Whale's Tail during low tide.

Vianney, Jerson, Andrey, and the fabulous chefs made sure we had the best drinks and meals, all served flawlessly. Breakfast , which begins with a special juice of the day is delicious, and the 4 course chef's whim dinners were incredible . It was fun to hear Jerson and Andrey describe what we would be having each night, and the menu never disappointed.

Marlo took care of arrangements for transportation to the resort from the airport and also had our rental car delivered to the resort for us, which was a great convenience.
We found that a rental car was necessary to get to activities (Zip Line, Waterfall Rappelling, ATV's, Mangrove tour, beach).

We had a wonderful stay and highly recommend Rancho Pacifico!

Hi stacyb993 - Thanks for your message! Rancho Pacifico is perfect for both relaxation and adventure. The dining package includes unlimited non-alcoholic beverages including specialty coffees and smoothies. It does not include alcoholic beverages. As you may have read in some of our reviews, we make some pretty amazing craft cocktails including our famous pineapple basil martini. Regarding transportation, if you plan to be out exploring and doing a lot of excursions, then we would recommend a rental car. One of the most convenient options is to let us arrange private transportation for you to the hotel from the airport, and then we can bring a rental car to the hotel for you the following day. If you plan to spend more time here at the hotel, then local taxis may be your best option - they can take you to all area destinations. If you have any more questions or would like to inquire about availability, please send us an email or call us at 1-800-460-2383. We hope to see you soon! - Mark

Hi landladyw - I see some of our previous guests have already answered your questions. I can confirm that the beach is about 15 minutes down the mountain. We offer a free daily shuttle to the beach that leaves RP mid-morning and returns early afternoon. If you need more flexibility, local taxis are available or we can arrange to have a rental car delivered to you at the hotel. Please let us know if we can help you further as you plan your trip! - Mark

Hi Melissa, I see that several of our previous guests have already answered your questions, but I can confirm the responses for you. We have very few mosquitos here. I don't know why but they aren't a problem. At 2,000 feet elevation, the air temperatures are ideal - comfortably warm in the day time and comfortably cool at night. Three of our accommodations have AC, but it is really not necessary here. The treehouses are very private, and our staff never walks up to any room where guests are present. The walk to the common areas from the treehouses is about a minute or two. We are happy to accommodate any dietary needs or preferences. Please feel free to contact us directly if you have further questions! We are looking forward to helping you celebrate your anniversary! - Mark

Sunniekate - Although your question was posted a while back, we are posting a new answer now to update future guests on some exciting changes at RP. We are now offering yoga retreats featuring our new ocean-view yoga deck in the rainforest. It is a truly special experience. As for your question about surfing - this is a surfer's paradise with breaks for all skill levels and warm water. It's about a 15 minute drive down the mountain to the beach. There are several surf shops renting boards and accessories.
