We stayed in Les Cailloux for a week (minus two nights mid-week, spent at a refuge in the Spanish Pyrenees) for a family holiday in August 2018. The accommodation is clean and pleasant, and we were very well looked after by the chalet hosts, Robin and Laine, who were very

We had a lovely time in the Pyrenees staying at Les Cailloux. Hosts Laine and Robin were friendly and helpful and the food was outstanding. Rob was a great guide on our hikes, with extensive knowledge of the area and the ability to plan/replan according to the weather. An

Our week in the Pyrenees staying at Les Cailloux far exceeded our expectations. We were keen to go on some challenging hikes and Rob was an exceptional guide. He planned each day to make the most of the weather and scenery, sharing his wealth of knowledge along the way including

The owners were nice to work with and the facilities were very comfortable. The hiking was just OK but not super informative. Worst was the couple who staff the "chalet" who were HORRIBLE, as was the food they prepared. They were an older, unfit British couple who smoked

Hello, This is a surprising review for us, and we are very saddened to receive our first negative comments after 12 years in business here in France. The couple that you refer to were seasonal staff who worked for us over 2 years ago and have subsequently moved on. In their defense, other clients gave excellent reviews for their cooking - something that they performed which great care and attention. With regards to the cultural experience that we offer, it is indeed perplexing that you would choose to stay with a British company run by British people if you were seeking a French immersion experience. We make no secrets of the fact that we are English-speaking, and for many of our guests this is the main reason that they choose our company. We would emphasise, however, that we take much pride in the fact that we hold French qualifications as "Accompagnateurs en Montagne" (mountain hiking guides) and we are passionate about the local area. The very point of our guided tours is that we can share our expert knowledge about the culture, history, language, culture, geology, geography, flora and fauna of the beautiful Pyrenees with our clients, and we are 100% confident that our aim is fulfilled in this respect. Had you taken part in one of our guided hiking weeks, we are certain that your opinion would have been different. We are also deeply supportive of French traditions and go out of our way to support the local people. In particular, we make a point of serving as many local ingredients as possible, such as Bareges-Gavarnie lamb, fresh river trout from the valley, Pyrenean mountain cheeses and honey, charcuterie prepared by our neighbour Monsieur Sabathie in Bareges. I myself am a Sapeur Pompier (a volunteer fireman/paramedic) and as such support the community in a very fundamental way. We are fluent French speakers, and our goal is to provide a service as interlocutors, allowing our English-speaking clients to experience everything that the French Pyrenees have to offer without having to understand French themselves. We are sorry that our efforts fell short of your expectations, however we feel your comments are unfair considering you joined an existing, 100% English speaking group on just one day walk. If you would like to come again I would be happy to organise a private, tailor-made and fully French experience to correspond exactly to your requirements. Cordialement, Robert Mason Owner/guide

Hi Kay, Sugges you email owners Rob and Emma directly (see mountainbug web site) for full list and lowdown on activities. There are plenty of easy self guided walks in the area. There is also a lovely thermal spa in Bareges, and horse riding too. There are good rail/air links to Lourdes, which is about 23 miles away. There is a bus service to Bareges from Lourdes or you could take a taxi.
