So, this was our first time going to Greece Aghia Pelagia (Crete) We had a late night flight which was delayed so we basically arrived at the hotel past 1AM. We had booked a room with jacuzzi on the terrace. When we got to the hotel we were tiered and exhausted. Guess what? We had a unbelievable surprise from the lovely Bluebay resort reception staff member. They upgraded our room to privet pool suit called Heraklion with no extra charge as compliment from the hotel. It almost felt like winning a jackpot. Can't say thank you enough. That was the very first time experiencing such emotions. The staff were absolutely top notch. Very friedly, polite, professional, helpful. The hotel was gorgeous with lots of breathtaking views. The restaurants were clean, easy located, plenty of room, separate terrace for smoker guests. The food was very delicious and different every day. Lots to do in surrounding area and easy to rent a car for other city exploration. 110% Recommend this hotel and destination and 110% we will go again. :)

Hotel's Favourite
In this review I have tried to give some useful information, so it is quite lengthy. For those who like to cut to the chase – we simply loved this hotel. It’s clean, welcoming and the food is great. The staff are there if you need them, but they let you get on with your holiday. All the staff are very friendly, and it is not possible to name them all but suffice to say that they made our holiday special by looking after us so very well – Nothing is too much trouble. So, yes, I would really recommend this hotel and if you want more details read on. We travelled to this hotel as a family group of 9 people. 2 of us were retired, 3 in their forties and 4 young adults ranging from 11 to 16 years. We went for two weeks in August 2023. We booked with Jet2, and this hotel is amongst the first drops – Transfer time around 40 minutes. We arrived in the evening and were welcomed by Nicos, a very efficient front desk manager. The check-In was quick and smooth. Worth noting is the tourist tax at 3 euros per room per night. Other costs were the safe at 20 euros per week. Wi-Fi is free in all parts of the hotel and is surprisingly good – You are given a code which is unique to your room for as many devices as you have got. Signing into the Wi-Fi is easy. Our luggage was taken to our rooms by a porter and, because we had arrived midway through the evening mealtime, Nicos encouraged us to go straight to dinner. The restaurant was quite busy, and we could not get a table to accommodate 9 people, but the Maître De explained that there were large group tables around the corner and that if we got there early in future, we would be OK. We did so for the rest of the holiday and never failed to sit together. MAIN RESTAURANT The restaurant is buffet style serving a really good selection of food with a slant towards Greek cuisine. The quality of the food was great and at no time did any of us have difficulty in finding a choice – our party had a couple of fussy eaters and a couple of vegetarians, but everyone was happy. The restaurant has self service drinks. There are soft drinks and a choice of local wines (Red, Rose, and White). There is also local beer on tap. The restaurant time are – Breakfast 07.30 to 10.00. Lunch 12.30 to 14.00 and dinner 18.30 to 21.00. They don’t rush to kick you out at the end of service and the restaurant staff are really nice. Breakfast is a good choice of everything. Full English, Cereals, Toast, Fruit, Continental, Waffles, and Crepes etc. Lunch and Dinner is a full service of soups, salads, and a vast choice of cooked dishes both international and Greek. The food was a definite highlight even if we ate too many of the scrumptious sweets! ROOMS The rooms are clean and are serviced every day. The maid changes towels each day and makes up the beds daily and changes bed linen every couple of days. There is a very welcome fridge with a complimentary bottle of water. BTW there are free water stations throughout the hotel to refill your bottles. There is a hairdryer and a TV with very few English channels (Who cares – not here to watch Corrie!). You can’t take room towels to the sun loungers – you can get a towel from the spa upon payment of a ‘green tax’ of 2 euros and a further 2 euros each time you change them – or take your own. The aircon is a Godsend and works very well – You can also put it on timer at night if you want it to go off after you have nodded off. Most rooms have a lovely sea view in the main building but it’s worth checking when you book. Also, be aware that if you are in the annex, it is away from the main hotel and up the hill which is not ideal for those with walking difficulties. BARS There are 3 bars. One in the lobby which doesn’t open until 17.00. A main pool bar near the main swimming pools which opens at 10.00 and another in the Annex, up the hill on the left, which opens at 10.30. Here there is also a swimming pool. The two pool bars serve snacks as well as drinks. Be aware that the included all inclusive drinks are a good range of soft and hot drinks and a limited choice of ‘Alcoholic’ drinks – Beer, wine, sangria and a few ouzo or raiki based cocktails…. But the drinks are universally low alcohol especially the beer. It is understandable as the hotel don’t want a load of drunken guests at the end of the day. So, you can drink as much as you like and won’t feel ill! They stop the AI at 23.00 but you can then buy international brands until 01.00 if you want to… You can also buy international brands at any time. Both pool bars serve pizza, various filled rolls, cakes, and the like throughout the day. You can also get lovely ice-creams and they give out little cups of melon every afternoon. In our opinion the best bar was the quiet one in the annex up the hill. By day it was staffed by the lovely Evelina who was so nice. By night it was Antoni who is a great character. This bar is very cool as it has a pergola and there is a water station and a good swimming pool…... Many people totally overlook this little Gem – Check it out. ENTERTAINMENT By day there is a low-key entertainment program and by night there are various shows in the Amphitheatre next to the main block which begin around 21.30 – take a drink from the bar as there is no bar in the entertainment venue. STAFF All the staff at this hotel are very friendly, and it is not possible to name them all but suffice to say that they made our holiday by looking after us so very well – Nothing is too much trouble. LOCAL AREA The hotel runs a minibus down to the little local beach. They do so because the hill is an absolute killer – It is possible to walk down the hill, but you will be glad of the lift back. On that note it is worth saying that this hotel is a bit isolated, and this is nice but not really suited for those with walking difficulties. At this beach you will find a few shops and a supermarket as well as a couple of nice restaurants and bars. There are also pedaloes and jet skis and the snorkeling is great but be advised that the beach is rocky and water shoes are useful… Snorkeling masks and shoes are available at the shops at reasonable prices (Twenty euros for full face snorkel mask). The main local town is Agia Pelagia and it is possible to walk there and the older two of our party did so – It’s best to do it in the morning because of the heat. Turn left up the hill outside the hotel and keep walking. You get to another small beach where there is a small bar and some loungers and water sports and not much else. Get refreshed and continue walking! After around 30 to 40 minutes, total from the hotel, you get to the town and the beach area of Agia Pelagia – It’s nice. There are a lot of shops, restaurants, and bars. Our particular favourite bar was Café Del Mar run by owner George and his main man Mike – Very welcoming with great service and reasonable prices. And George and Mike are great guys! You can get a taxi back for 10 Euros using Tranfershop.GR – these guys are super friendly and highly efficient. The hotel reception will book it for you or ask at Georges bar and he will sort it. They are also on WhatsApp. LOCAL BUSES There is a bus stop right outside the hotel and anywhere you want to go is 3.50 euros…. Whether it be locally or to Heraklion it is a fixed price. Times available from reception.

The weeks stay I had with my daughter was really nice and relaxing. We went all inclusive and I couldn’t fault the food and the choices , although if you’re a vegan unfortunately not many choices to choose from . The only downside was the amount of steps that lead to the main part of the hotel if your apartment was at the bottom. Too many steps for me, but if you’re after a quiet relaxing hotel this is the place. All the staff were great and helpful and the entertainment was really good. Rooms cleaned daily , not many other amenities near by by if you’re happy to stay around the hotel then not a problem. I like to explore so wasn’t much to see locally. I enjoyed my stay overall.

Last year, I spent two days with my husband at The Blue Bay Resort and we had a wonderful time. Our room was located in the annex. It had its own swimming pool. We had hired a car but did not use it during our stay. The beach was within walking distance. Last October, we came for three days. It was simply amazing. The staff were welcoming and very caring. We will no doubt visit again as soon as possible.

We had an amazing stay at Blue Bay Resort Hotel. The hotel is so welcoming and extremely friendly. The staff were totally fantastic especially Ritsa she was so so helpful and her and all the staff couldn't do enough for you. Such a gorgeous place to stay. The food was very well presented (on occasions repetitive) but we couldn't fault the cleanliness and the amount. It was very good! The walk to the beach takes minutes albeit it very steep 🤪 but its worth it. The sea was warm and so inviting and the bars down by the beach were just brilliant. Great beer and fab food and even better staff. We will definitely be returning to this hotel. My only complaint is how most hotels seem to going now and that's the drinks on the all inclusive. You are limited to choice and served in such small amounts which means more visits to the bar. It was terrible just not what we expected. It will how ever make me think that maybe future holidays we will do B&B instead (where ever we go) and give our money the gorgeous restaurants and bars that so sadly have suffered since all inclusive became popular. It was worth it years ago but now I'm not so sure. Cheaper to eat out. Cant wait to return here X

We really enjoyed our 1 week holiday at Blue Bay. Friendly and helpful staff. Lovely massage at the spa. The pools were lovely but a bit cold due to the time of year we came but the sun still shone and we enjoyed sitting round the pool and relaxing. 2 beautiful beaches nearby within walking distance but be prepared for a steep walk back to the hotel (or take the shuttle instead) Our family room was OK. TV in main room didn’t work but it didn’t worry us enough as we hardly watched any TV! Balcony great for watching sunsets. Maybe the room could do with a little update. The food was AMAZING!!! Huge selection and gorgeous desserts. The views were outstanding. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. If we were to come back we would probably come back at a different time of the year to make the most of the hot weather and facilities. Thank you very much for having us! Jo, Kim, Luka and Noah

The hotel was clean and has beautiful views, staff are friendly and it is very child friendly. We were told upon arrival that our rooms had been upgraded to executive suits however, it seems that our rooms were downgraded as a matter of fact. After paying for sea view rooms, we were assigned ground floor rooms where people sitting by the pool can look into your room and a limited view of the sea past sun beds. Luckily, we got upgraded towards the end of our holiday to actual sea view rooms which were much brighter and we enjoyed sitting on this balcony. The food and drinks were very standard with a poor selection of cocktails and acidic wine. The buffet had a range of options but unfortunately does not cater well for allergies. For example, one ice cream scope is used for all ice cream and things such as chicken nuggets contain nuts. I told a member of staff about my allergies and whether I could have a dessert on my first night and they said there was nothing for me as everything contains nuts and no effort was made to sort anything separate for me. Overall, we enjoyed our trip but would hope the hotel takes on the above feedback for future.

Dear gemmacM4334GZ, Thank you for sharing your feedback with us, and we’re pleased to hear that you found our hotel clean with beautiful views and that you felt our staff was friendly. We appreciate your honest review as it helps us improve our services. We apologize for the confusion regarding your room assignment. We indeed offered an upgraded room category that come with stunning sea views, and it's great to hear that you were able to enjoy one of those rooms on a higher floor during the latter part of your stay. Our intention is to provide the best experience for our guests, and it's unfortunate that there was a misunderstanding initially. Regarding your feedback on the drinks selection, we appreciate your input. For your better understanding: in our all-inclusive program, we have recently included a selection of cocktails. We have also introduced extended catalogs of beverages, spirits and cocktails, but it's important to note that these extended offerings are available for an additional charge, and this is transparently published for our guests. We are sorry to hear about your dining experience during your stay. We take food allergies and dietary preferences very seriously, and it's essential to ensure the safety and satisfaction of all our guests. We would like to bring to attention that we do indeed cater to allergies and have information readily available for our guests. Inside the main restaurant and on information boards, you can find details about allergen information and dietary considerations. We have a dedicated team in place to assist with any special dietary requirements. To ensure the best dining experience, we kindly ask our guests, especially those with allergies, to inform our Maitre d'Hotel during their first visit in our main restaurant. Our Maitre d'Hotel will be more than happy to assist you throughout your stay, not only during the extensive buffets but also on a daily basis. We arrived at 2pm in the hotel reception with a very warm welcome and were asked if we would like to go straight to the restaurant as the lunch time was about to end as the reception staff who booked us in didn't want us to miss our meal. They showed us to the restaurant whilst looking after our luggage for us. After our meal we were taken to our room in a courtesy vehicle, as our room was a little way from reception carrying cases would have been a bit of a struggle. What a wonderful room!. When we booked we were told we were going to be in the annexe, which we had no idea where it was, but we were taken to a lovely 2 bedroomed room, with fridge, t.v in each room, aircon, and a fantastic balcony with sea view and fantastic sunrises and sunsets. There was even an ironing board, with iron and coat hangers in the wardrobes. Also plenty of storage space in the rooms. The beds were changed and made up every day and the cleanliness of the rooms was exceptional. The shower was hot with plenty of hot water. Around the main hotel there are three separate pools. One of these pools has 2 water slides. Also there are 2 annexes which have rooms and each have pools. One annexe is attached to the main hotel and the other is up a quite steep incline. This one has the pool and another bar. We did go here a number of times and it was quieter which was a nice retreat. The opening times and the all inclusive was the same here. Entertainment during the day was varied. If you want to join in it's there for you but without any pressure. Every day is different and there is an itinerary on boards displayed with the times in various locations around the pool. During our stay we tried Greek language lessons and a massive thank you to the wonderful Marina for her patience and kindness towards us in learning a few basic phrases, the alphabet and any other thing we wanted translated, which we wrote down and will bring back to Greece with us when we next visit. Marina also taught us basic Greek dancing around the pool which was so much fun. We received a certificate for both. Also Marina taught Uno. There was water polo, darts and pool Also on the timetable you will find authentic Greek cooking around the pool which Marina hosted along with the chefs. We would like to send a special thank you to the bar and restaurant staff , Maria during the day in the bar and Stelios on an evening in the bar for their hard work. Also the unseen staff that create the most wonderful variation of meals in the restaurant. Breakfast, lunch and evening meal were always plentiful and varied A massive thank you from us both for a most wonderful stay, we loved it so much we've rebooked for June 2024. Also on a cheeky note please could we have room 422 again as it was perfect xx

There are so many positives to this lovely hotel, the main one however, are the staff they are absolutely amazing! Every single member of staff we encountered were friendly, warm, helpful and went totally above and beyond to make our stay a wonderful experience. Nothing is too much trouble and even without asking your needs are met. We stayed in an Executive Double room with sea view. The view was truly amazing, the room although not what we class as executive was very clean, large and functional. The bathroom has all you need and the wardrobe space is more than adequate. There is a fridge in the room which we used for milk and water. We asked for a kettle and one was provided with a couple of mugs, milk, tea and coffee sachets. As I said previously, nothing is too much trouble. The room was cleaned everyday, bedding was changed at least 3 times during our 12 day stay. Towels changed every day. All areas of the hotel are kept very clean, cleaners are around all day cleaning areas that don’t even look as if they require cleaning again. The swimming pool areas are furnished with loungers, there were not always an adequate amount of loungers during our stay due to the hotel being fully booked and; despite requests not to do so; some selfish and inconsiderate guests went out early in the morning to “claim” a lounger by putting their towels on them. The pools themselves were quite cool but the pool area was very clean. We didn’t spend too much time around the pool as we were out and about all day most days exploring Crete. The restaurant is very well managed, we had an issue with some food being labelled as vegetarian when it contained fish! This was brought to the attention of the restaurant manager who rectified the situation and food was afterwards correctly labelled. There was a limited choice for vegetarians during dinner at times but we absolutely loved the freshness of the salads, breads, condiments. We particularly enjoyed the breakfast choices of fresh fruit, yogurt and cold offerings. We certainly didn’t go hungry and very much enjoyed the food we ate. The restaurant staff are truly wonderful, they work so hard, non stop but always with a smile on their faces. We hired a car for 6 of our 12 day stay and this enabled us to visit some of the wonderful sights, cities, towns and villages of Crete. If you do visit, may we suggest that hiring a car is a great way to get around. We had a really enjoyably holiday thanks to the staff at a Blue Bay and the people of Crete, you are amazing. Thank you.
