Found Clondanagh Cottage here on Tripadvisor when looking for somewhere to stay in east Clare - and as soon as I'd spoken to Dorothy on the telephone, I knew I'd made the right choice.
The Cottage is located in peaceful countryside overlooking Clondanagh Lake, a short distance from Tulla, where you will find a choice of pubs - and a chinese restaurant! (Had a nice meal at the restaurant and recommend it; ask Dorothy for details). The cottage was designed by Dorothy's husband Michael, who is not only an accomplished musician at night, but is also an architect by day. There is a stunning room between the breakfast room and the kitchen, with full-height glass wall and ceiling, where Dorothy has set up a telescope for guests' use. What a delight it was to stand there on a clear starry night with Dorothy, Michael and the children, and see the craters on the moon in close-up!
There is a cosy sitting room for guests, with television and a variety of board games, books and dvds, and a pretty breakfast room that looks out onto fields where you'll see Dorothy's ducks, chickens and 14 donkeys.
My room was upstairs (there are a couple of ground floor rooms, too), and was a spacious and light room with a double bed and two singles, plus en-suite bathroom. There was a hairdryer, kettle etc, plus a nice selection of wash items in the bathroom. Oh! The peace at night: not a manmade sound to be heard: no planes, no traffic, no voices . . . . I slept so well!
Breakfast is taken around communal tables in the sunny breakfast room and comprises juice, choice of yoghurts and cereal, variety of breads and scones, and of course, full cooked breakfast with eggs from those happy chickens outside in the garden.
This is a lovely location if you wish to enjoy walks in the countryside (east Clare way), fishing on the Lake for Bream and Pike (Dorothy can provide equipment), leisurely drives exploring the little villages of east Clare (soo untouristy!), and boat trips on Lough Derg. It is also within easy drive of Limerick and Galway, and the fascinating Burren and Cliffs of Moher. If you're interested in traditional music, then a visit to Shortt's pub in Tulla (also known as "Lena's"), or Pepper's Bar in Feakle are a must! Check to see if Michael is playing in any of the pubs; I had the pleasure of listening to him play the guitar at Cobbler's Rest in Bodyke.
Now, my stay at Clondanagh coincided with the volcano in Iceland causing chaos to travel plans and Dorothy was so kind, helping me rearrange my trip, including an extra night at Clondanagh (thank goodness there was room!), booking me a room in a b&b at Rosslare which she found on Tripadvisor, and providing cups of tea when it all got too much for me! Honestly, I must have been one of Dorothy's more demanding guests, but she took it all in her stride, and was so good to me!
Stay at Clondanagh Cottage: if you're looking for a genuinely warm welcome in an "away-from-it-all" country location, and wish to experience all that is best about a family run Irish bed and breakfast.
Don't stay here: if you're looking for 24-hr room service, pool, and spa treatments, etc, and usually stay/want to stay in an anonymous chain hotel.
Many thanks Dorothy and Michael, for such a warm welcome and such an enjoyable stay! Very much look forward to staying at Clondanagh Cottage again!
Note: I always pay cash when staying at b&bs in Ireland.
Credit card companies charge small businesses hefty fees for the "privilege" of accepting payment by card, so as courtesy to the owner, I always ensure I have enough cash to pay my bill.

To all coarse anglers. For over 30 years I have travelled the length and breadth of Ireland, and have fished nearly every river and lake in the country. However in 2011 I stayed with Dorothy and her family at Clondanagh Cottage and was provided with the best fishing advice and guidance I have ever been given. Nothing was too much trouble for them, and I was given a comprehensive tour of several of the Clare lakes, and as a result enjoyed one of the most productive angling holidays I've had in years. Just take a look at the photographs!

My wife and I took this trip with two purposes in mind, first and foremost was to relax and get away from the stress of life, and secondly was to enjoy a spot of fishing.
We spent 7 nights at this wonderful location which is a short drive from Tulla centre, to which you then arrive at the tranquil Clondanagh Cottage which has the hint of subliminal isolation on the one hand coupled with the reality of a bustling town within a short distance, be it pubs (very friendly) restaurants, take-away’s etc etc on the other.
The front of house lake location is excellent, with all amenities, from sturdy purpose built platforms, (mobile platforms are also available) to fishing boats and kayaks (life vests included) and even sonar fish finder equipment all free of charge.
With a hearty breakfast served up every day at a time to suit ourselves we would head off on a fishing expedition, and I must say the fishing was excellent, with a bite or fish a cast, we did have a little hassle with a pike or two, but a few casts with a lure soon sorted that out, and boy do they fight!! All the time we were kept company by Dorothy’s lovely dogs Guinness and Sheila.
Dorothy and Michael are very attentive hosts, from lifts to and from the pub, to lake tours and advice on the local places to go and things to see. Whilst we took our own fishing equipment, Dorothy and Michael have all you need for hire at very reasonable prices, also the storage facilities for tackle and bait were first class, with ample room for preparation prior to a fishing expedition.
If its peace and quiet you want then this is the place, with only the song of the birds and the splash of a fighting fish to disturb the tranquillity of it all.
To say we chose well would be an understatement; we totally achieved the purpose of the trip on both fronts and will defiantly return again.
Many thanks to Dorothy and Michael for making our trip so pleasurable.

Reaching the cottage was an adventure in itself. We wanted to see and experience the Irish country side and this is what we got.
Located on the shores of a small lake in Clondanagh, the cottage sits on a farm with donkeys (must ask Dorothy why 12 female donkeys), horses, alpacas and chickens. We were met by the friendly Dorothy and her 3 dogs and in an instant made feel welcome. I cannot say enough about their hospitality. Over a tea and homemade jam we got to know better Dorothy and we met Michael a passionate musician. We followed his advice and we spent the evening in a traditional Irish pub in Feackle (Lena's - a must see during an Irish trip).
We used the cottage as a base to our discovery of Clare County: 45-50 min away from the Cliff of Moher, 20 minutes from Bunratty Castle, 15 min from Quin Abbey (in Quin), 1 hour away from Doolin or Limerick 30 min away from The Burren (the timings are approximate and depend on how fast one drives).
The Cottage is ideal for a family with kids or anybody who loves animals and mostly who loves nature and the Irish country side.
The breakfast was excellent. Dorothy cooked for us a very good omelet with bacon.
Great service but mostly a great feel of a home. We had the opportunity to experience an Irish family at home and meet great people (guest and owners).
They are the embodiment of perfect hospitality (very kind, helpful, attentive and full of advice and mostly warm). We made great friends and we will come back to visit Dorothy and Michael.

Wonderful! Can't say enough about this lovely b&b and the hosts. Adorable cottage set in gorgeous Irish countryside but close to Shannon airport and lots of worthwhile sightseeing, so you can stay put and enjoy the dogs and donkeys and take walks on the beautiful property or go out and see the sights. Very comfortable accomodations for our family of 5. The breakfast room was filled with sunlight and the big Irish breakfasts were phenomenal. Dorothy and Michael couldn't have been more helpful and friendly and guided us in our travels. The coast is not to be missed.
It is a music-filled area and they can advise how best to experience the Clare music scene, but in our opinion it is best experienced right at Clondanagh Cottage! Michael and their children are excellent musicians and we were lucky enough to share a tune with them before we left for home. We count them as friends and hope to return someday soon.
A true getaway and a great way to see and experience Ireland, whether for the first time or the twentieth!

Our first stay at Clondanagh Cottage, was simply: perfection. We knew the minute we stepped foot into Dorothy's charming home, (October 2011) that it wasn't going to be our one and only stay here. So we returned just this past November. And again, it was WONDERFUL. She makes her guests feel so at home, that you wonder if in another world this IS your home! It's a gem, and the hospitality you will experience here will warm your heart. It's the definition of the Irish-spirit; carefree and relaxed. The setting couldn't be any more beautiful, and the darling animals on the farm made our stay all the better! The rooms are supremely clean, spacious, and cozy. This place makes me want to move to Ireland. I promise, you will 100% fall in LOVE with this little corner in Clare County!

Enjoyed an wonderful break at Clondanagh Cottage with my children at Easter. The rooms, food, surroundings and most importantly the people were first class. Dorothy and her family were warm and welcoming. As with other reviewers, I cannot make one negative comment. Superb!

My husband and I stayed at Clondanaugh Cottage for 4 nights in Sept. 2011.Everything was wonderful! Dorothy and her family were the kindest, sweetest and warmest hosts that we have ever met. Dorothy spent lots of time with us; taking us on a tour of the farm; showing us all about the fishing equipment; and telling us great places to sightsee. She is a great cook and took the time to make us a special breakfast on our last morning! Michael even took us to a pub that he was playing at one night. Daniel(their son) played the concertina for us. He is a very talented young man. We enjoyed their daughter's dancing also. We enjoyed playing with the dogs and seeing the donkeys. It is by far; the BEST B&B I've ever seen. By the time we left; we felt like family! We will definately return!

My son and I have just returned from a long fishing week end in Ireland. Our base was Clondanagh Cottage in Clare run by Dorothy Minogue-Landers.
Tench were our main target and we had planned where we would fish well beforehand. We expected a fair amount of travelling to the various lakes but we were pleasantly surprised just how well placed Clondanagh Cottage was to all of the main, renowned lakes, travelling was in fact minimal and easy.
Our target lakes changed once we met Dorothy whose knowledge of the fishing within the area was priceless. She took us to two local lakes in particular that didn’t even appear on our radar and the fishing, well, quality Tench and Roach in abundance. We also had an additional bonus of being able to leave the room and be on the bankside in under 5 minutes!
As a base Clondanagh was perfect, the accommodation and food was spot on, the atmosphere very relaxed and the Owner ensured that we never missed a meal despite our early morning and late evening fishing sessions. One big plus was the availability of our own large, dedicated Tackle/Bait shed complete with fridge/freezer and plenty of room for drying tackle and clothes (unfortunately on a couple of days the weather put this to the test).
To anyone considering a fishing trip to the East Clare Lakes we would most certainly recommend Clondanagh Cottage.

We had originally planned only one night at Clondanagh Cottage but were anxious to spend more time in East Clare so we phoned and were accommodated a day early. Dorothy was wonderful and gave us good tips about where to eat and what to see. She met us in Tulla and we followed her out there in our car. It would have been difficult to find on our own. For those who have driven in Ireland, it can be tough to find your way around because the roads are not signed like we're used to. But it was truly worth the trip.
My husband and I were traveling with my 78 year-old father, who is 6'4" tall. The beds were very comfortable for all of us, and the rooms and bath were clean. Dorothy really spoiled us with her service. She is a wonderful cook and the breakfast had more than ample portions.
We live in the country so are used to the quiet and this location was very comfortable. We were fortunate in that the weather was nice and we could have the window open to listen to the birds.
I would highly recommend Clondanagh Cottage for those who are seeking a nice, quiet, extremely pleasant stay.
