A fantastic venue that offers peace and quiet in its beautiful house and surrounding gardens.
From the moment we arrived we were greeted with outstanding hospitality, friendly faces and a warm welcome.
Our room (Room 2) was immaculate and was given an extra birthday make-over, which was a surprise and added an extra touch of personal service.
The Spa, gym and treatment area is also immaculately presented in every way with refreshments available to ensure an enjoyable and relaxing experience.
The food blew us away, the choice and flavours along with the beautifully presented restaurant was nothing short of an experience to remember.
As for the service, it was beyond reproach. The staff and waiters were extremely knowledgeable and professional and on par with some of the best hotels in the UK.
I fully recommend a stay here or even try the afternoon tea…. It won’t disappoint.
Thank you to all the staff and especially to Max for a wonderful break.

John

Stayed for a romantic night away post valentines. My wife had no idea so was a bit surprised to say the least. Worst weather imaginable but never even noticed it, apparently the electric went down during the night, didn't notice and no dramas.. They gave us an upgrade room which was very nice and totally clean and well presented. Walls were covered in a padded material which was unusual. I had requested a bottle of wine to be there when we arrived.........attention to detail slipped as it was corked and no bottle opener, soon remedied with a quick call to reception. The spa was included in the price of the stay and i had dropped the wife off whilst i went home to pick up some more appropriate clothes and on return she had completed her massage which she said was fantastic. A couple of little niggles ref the spa.....It was quite busy and with limited locker space my clothes were put in a cupboard unlocked. The jacuzzi start stop function requires some attention to operate. I watched as even a member of staff struggled to get it going several times. I remedied this by literally having to sit on top of them much to some guests laughter, hey adapt and overcome! The pool area was spotless and the water comfortably warm and not too hot. The sauna was great for two but would be very cramped for any more. The evening meal was better than fantastic, well presented and very attentive staff but not over powering considering how busy it was. I would recommend pre-booking a table as i did tucked away in the corner. Be aware that although the meal could be included in the price of the room when booking, the tea/coffee for after the meal is not as i found out when checking out. £5 for a cup of tea on top of the evening meal was a bit of a surprise. Drinks wise £8 for a pint of coke with ice and lemon....attention to detail ordered but received coke and ice had to take back to get the lemon. Rum 35ml £6 and coke mixer bottle £3. £21 for two rhubarb gins and £3 lemonade mixer. However was expecting this so not bothered just for info for others. I had requested a wake up call at 07:15 so that we could have used the spa for a swim before breakfast however this didn't happen. I spoke to the duty manager who was very apologetic and stated this should not have been missed. For all the minor attention to details that were missed i wouldn't give it less than the excellent rating i have given it due to the friendliness of the staff and the quality of the room and food.

My husband and I, stayed at Summer Lodge country house hotel, restaurant and spa, before heading to Edinburgh.
The hotel is located near the picturesque country train station of Yeovil junction, a stones throw away from the hotel.
This was our third visit. And we will be sure to return. By far one of our favourite places to escape the city grind. Some may worry about heading to the british countryside during the colder months, but I really think people ought to think twice. Because it's well worth the trip from London even when its raining. This is perfect for people living in the capital wanting some serious downtime, but equally for tourists travelling to the UK, who wish to compliment their visit to the capital, with a trip to the countryside. To experience what I think is, a great place, that genuinely epitomizes the great british countryside!

Our room, which was it's own standalone cottage, complete with it's very own walled garden reminded me of the famous story, "The secret garden". Beyond the garden is an annex, reminiscent of a fairytale grotto, which houses a jacuzzi, fluffy bathrobes and a little cozy sitting area. The Perfect place to relax in. Even more romantic when its raining and you can admire the rain drops tapping against the glass ceiling!

The ivy cottage is set over two floors, with a grand bathroom with one of those old fashioned roll top clawed baths. We loved the fact that they also stock british made luxury ethical toiletries, made with local ingredients. Downstairs a beautiful lounge and dining room, and we made full use of the roaring fire place.

That said, we took advantage of both the drawing room and the cozy bar, as well as the country pub opposite. The acorn inn.

Foodwise, it is a gastronome's paradise. Whether you dine at the acorn or in summer lodge's restaurant both offer fantastic meals. The tasting menu with its adjoining wines is worth the ££. The dining experience is perfectly executed by the expert staff, who are so knowledgeable. Each course described in depth and each wines that came with each dish, illustrated by the sommelier. What I loved though, is that they were explained to us in a manner that was easy to understand and not in a stuffy way This form of culinary exploration should be experienced! It's an education, and a journey you'll not forget anytime soon.

All in all, this place remains one of our top favourite destinations, and we cannot wait to return!

Summer Lodge was a last minute booking to celebrate our 'special anniversary' as Covid ensured our original plans had to be cancelled (twice!) From our arrival to check out this really was a 5* experience. Our accommodated in one of the period cottages was superb and the large bathroom/shower had all the requisite facilities including a large free standing copper bath. Fantastic nights sleep in a most comfortable bed.
Dinner and service was first class, imaginative quality dishes full of flavour, well prepared, presented and served.
Our thanks to the whole Summer Lodge 'team' who all helped to make our special anniversary extra special. Our experience was 5* - all the way

We booked a 2 night stay with Secret Escapes for my birthday . The service from the time we arrived to the moment we departed was just faultless . We were met in the car park by a young man who directed us to a space and helped with our luggage , then showed us around the hotel before directing us to reception where we checked in .
All the staff were polite , helpful and friendly . All covid measures were explained and we were provided with a complimentary kit of handwash, mask etc.
Our room was a 'cosy double' but by no means tiny and very well equipped . The hotel is blissfully quiet at night and we slept well .
The food and service in the restaurant was just incredible and a lovely touch was the plate left in our room with 'Happy Birthday ' written in chocolate along with several handmade choccies !
I can honestly say I've never experienced service like this anywhere , the staff were amazing and a real credit to their management team . We are already planning our return .....

Booked 3 night stay via Secret Escapes including 1 evening meal, v friendly welcome, v COVID aware, hotel looked spotless, room on top floor was beautiful, large comfy bed, lots of teas and coffees plus v tasty shortbread, thoroughly enjoyed evening meal eating v tasty lamb and beef, well presented and good sized portions, super breakfasts with wide choice of cooked or cold items.
Grounds well kept, beautiful autumn colours, tennis court looked in v good condition and large indoor pool - we didn't use either as we were too busy.
The only negative was that the food + drinks were v expensive but they have a sister pub 100m away called The Acorn which serves excellent food but you do need to book.
So overall we really enjoyed our stay in this lovely hotel, we will certainly revisit.
Many thanks

We went for afternoon tea on the day that they were allowed to open to celebrate a birthday and we had a wonderful tea. The place looks great - the gardens have been well maintained and we enjoyed some fun games of croquet on the lawn after tea.

We had smoked salmon, ham, cucumber and egg sandwiches - all delicious and they brought some more of the wonderful egg ones when the boys had eaten them all and were looking for more! Tasty little pastries and yummy scones with clotted cream rounded off a lovely celebration. We were well looked after and all the staff were very warm and welcoming. Go if you have the chance! And go for a walk to admire the gardens - you will need to walk it off a bit afterwards!

My wife and I managed to get away to Summer Lodge at the beginning of March to celebrate my wife’s Birthday and our 20th Anniversary.
I searched high and low for a place with a consistency of very good reviews, hence our stay here.
Ok, this place might not be for everyone because its quiet, away from it all and, I accept, not cheap ( room price was£285) and probably/maybe not for young couples ( we looked like the youngest there ..we are 60 and 58)but.......

From the moment we arrived we had a really nice friendly welcome,we were shown around the hotel and grounds and our room which was a Superior Room( room 11).
The room was very nice, decent sized bed( big enough for my wife to escape LOL) and the bathroom quite modern but with shower in the bath.
You are provided with 2 bottles of water FOC in your room.
We did have a problem with the shower on our first morning when, as it turned out, the thermostat in the shower failed and the water came out blazing hot. The problem, once highlighted, was sorted out straightaway, as soon as they got the part.

We had a bit of a snack in the lounge area before our visit to the Spa and the service and quality of the food and drink was excellent. The Egg sandwich we had was the best, bar none, that we have ever tasted. During our stay, we also had pots of tea in the lounge, only so we could have a couple of their home made large cookies which were delicious!
The service throughout was excellent.

Breakfast gives you a choice of cooked English which very good or cold meats/continental and you can sit out in the conservatory or in the dining room.
We did not eat dinner here as it was all booked up and the choices were not wide enough for my wife’s tastes( not keen on seafood)

They have a bar which extensively stocked on spirits but there aren’t any beers/lagers on tap but with the pub a 5 minute walk away maybe thats not key.

We ate at the Acorn Inn , both nights, and the food here is really very good, in a nice atmosphere. The pub is owned by the owners of the Hotel( mind you so is most of the village of Evershot!) I had the fish and chips one night and the burger on the other.Prices for these 2 meals around the £16 mark which is pretty fair.
I did have a starter on one day of scallops which was absolutely lovely but in my opinion overpriced at £11 for 4 of them.
The homemade cheesecake is to die for and priced at £8.

The spa caters for 2 massages at the same time and has a decent enough sized indoor pool where if you fancy you can have a nice pot of afternoon tea.

The grounds are lovely and there are some great walks to be had, one round the Melbury Estate for which they have a leaflet and directions which are spot on and is about 5km.
Plenty of things to do not far away like going to West Bay or Lyme Regis, for example.

We would definitely go back....loved this oasis of calm and great service.

This was our first stay here and we will be back soon. Our room was very well set up. Classy decoration and very good bathroom. The public rooms were also all very classy. The stand out though is the service. From the stand in manager, Vince, to Max, Eric and everyone provided a very high class service which was friendly and not in any way over bearing. We were always made to feel very comfortable. The food was excellent. The grounds are very nice as well. The COVID measures were also very good and all guests respected the measures and kept masks on when moving in public areas. All in all highly recommended.

We have just had a most delightful 3 day stay at this beautiful country house hotel. From the moment we parked our car we were made to feel welcome and our luggage was whisked away by Ollie without us touching it...very much appreciated.

Check in was swift and efficient and Tom was very welcoming and showed us around the hotel. Ollie accompanied us to our room (number 5) and quickly noticed our less than enthusiastic reaction...(it was up a lot of stairs, small and the reality was not at all like the photo on the website although the two bathrooms were huge) as a result he went straight back to reception and found us a wonderful alternative room (number 23).

We were soon settled in to this lovely double aspect room and quickly realised that this 3 night break was going to be a special treat. Everything was perfect: the comfortable lounge, the pretty restaurant, the excellent food, the daily fresh shortbread in the bedroom, the gardens, the swimming pool and spa and each of the wonderful staff, from the gardeners up, were everything you could ask for...we felt spoilt.

The village of Evershot is delightful and the walk through the deer-park of Melbury House was a joy. We didn't need to use our car during our stay and left feeling utterly relaxed.

The only changes we would love to see were the positioning and size of the TV; a larger model, positioned lower on the wall and on an adjustable bracket would be better and also it would be helpful for oldies like us to have a higher grab rail to assist safe stepping in and out of the bath for a shower, but I make these two points only to be helpful, not criticise, and they did not spoil our stay in any way.

We can't wait to return!
