Stayed here for two nights for work. The Double superior room was very spacious with room to work and the bathroom was also big although it's a shame about some poor quality tile work.
The bed and pillows were super comfortable and very quite away from the bar. The rear door giving access to the carpark also leads to the smoking area which was a bit loud on one night as my room was at the back.
The breakfast was excellent and if I hadn't had early starts I might have made even more of it.
The evening restaurant menu is very nice but the quality of cooking was a bit variable with a very overcooked sea bass while the accompanying seafood risotto was delicious and well cooked.
My favourite pudding is Creme Brulee which tasted delicious but wasn't set. It's good to see a nice local hotel really trying to do things well it just needs to be a little tighter to be even better.
A good stay

We went to Kings Arms for the weekend, it was our first time there so not sure what to expect.

When we arrived we ere given the key to our room, and we were delighted with it, the room was very clean, the furniture was good quality, and the room a good proportion. It was very comfortable and well maintained, the only 2 things we had issues with were small issues, the mini fridge did not get very cold and the shower could be more powerful, but minor worries. The best thing, as far as my partner is concerned, was that the air con unit is really good and efficient.

We had dinner there that night and the service was impeccable, the only problem we had was that we were told we could order onion rings then the chef said we couldn’t, it was not that busy so not sure why that was, other than that the food was very tasty and we enjoyed it.

The breakfast was in a league of its own, it was exceedingly tasty, large and well cooked, we loved it, the team kindly made a table up for us in the bar area as we have a small dog, the whole team were helpful and very friendly, we could not fault them at all, and the place and team were very dog friendly, which makes it even better.

All in all it was. Lovely stay and we would highly recommend Kings Arms to anyone.

We were lucky enough to have won a night here in a valentines competition, we are local to the area and have never been the rooms were lovely and the staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Dinner was really nice as was breakfast. The room was clean and although we didn’t use it there was tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits. Would fully recommend perfect if you are staying for a wedding or a party at any of the local venues. I had the best nights sleep the bed was so comfortable. Even though on the a120 you couldn’t really hear the traffic.

Stayed in the old rooms above the pub.

Found the room clean and comfortable if a little tired but I don't mind that as it adds to the character. Can't comment on the new rooms which are beside the main building.

The room does look out over the front of the pub which means the busy A120 is close by. There is some traffic noise but I did not find it effected my sleep.

The show produced a decent supply of hot water.

Breakfast was cooked to order and was decent.

Overall a decent venue for an overnight stay.

Where to start, what a find, beautiful intimate pub with a few very new annex rooms. Immaculately clean, and the team working here are lovely, chatty and very friendly. Thankfully during this very hot week I have a room with air con, now the Essex gold and country club is 2 minutes up the road… would I stay here again, over anywhere near by! I have yet to try the food, but if it’s anything the place it will be beautiful!

Lovely rooms, very well equipped.
Great breakfast, friendly staff, a lovely place with an excellent beer garden.
Would definitely recommend and would stay again.
Shame it was only for one night but it was a great location for a nearby wedding.

Great pub and smashing rooms. My room was spotlessly clean with a comfy bed and nice outlook onto open fields.
The food was also lovely and my steak was cooked perfectly. The full English the following morning was fabulous too.
The staff were warm and friendly and eager to help with anything.
10/10 and highly recommended if you need a stay in that part of Essex. Much preferable to the boring hotels dotted along the A12.

A disappointing stay - Checked into the twin room with my partner and within the first 5 minutes we had already found a number of things wrong with this room:
- dirty, used tissues in drawer of bedside table
- poor heating facilities (provided with an electric heater which made the whole room stink of burning)
- stained furniture
- wardrobe full of bin bags with spare bedding thus no room to hang anything up!
- unbearably noisy as located on a main road
- cleaning equipment left scattered in the bathroom
Unfortunately we didn't have time to log any complaints with the manager as we had a taxi waiting for us -and so endeavoured to put up with it for one night and provide some feedback in the morning.
Can safely say one of the worst night sleep I have ever experienced - the noise was non stop throughout the night, followed by a dog barking aggressively at around 5:30am.
We decided to skip breakfast (although we did hear from another guest who was staying at the time that it was not too bad).
Fortunately after my partner expressed our dissatisfaction to the manager she agreed to give us a reduced price on our room which was really very appreciated. The discount was generous but will definitely not be returning as I felt the place is very over priced for what you actually get.
