We chose one of the cheapest "comfy" double rooms and this was perfectly adequate, being furnished with a king-size bed, two proper bedside tables with drawers and cupboards, wardrobe, a desk with drawers, a chair, stool and a stand for a suitcase. The bathroom was equipped with temperature-controlled, over the bath shower. This was very powerful and invigorating but, not being walk-in, might not suit people with mobility problems.
The room was at the back of the hotel, away from the main road. with beautiful views over the moors towards Emley Moor.
For dinner we had the following: button mushrooms in stilton sauce, and smoked salmon with a Bloody Mary dressing for starters. Lamb rump and duck breast for main courses. Apple and cinnamon compote and cheeseboard for desserts.
All the food was of the highest quality and the portions were generous.
For breakfast the next day we had cereals, juice, toast, croissants, tea, coffee, full English breakfast and Eggs Benedict.
Again the food was of very high quality and the service provided by the staff was friendly and efficient. Nothing was too much trouble.
Unfortunately the weather was terrible but it definitely didn’t spoil our stay at this cosy hotel. We stayed on a dine and duvet deal so that included £45 towards your evening meal and £18 towards a bottle of wine each night.
The breakfast was gorgeous, we had a full English and eggs benedict also toast cereals ,fruits, juices, tea, coffee and pastry’s all available to set you up for the day. We had a couple of good walks round the local reservoirs despite the weather.
The evening meals were delicious also, very high standards and perfect service, nothing is too much trouble for the staff, happy to chat with you and fuss our dog Winnie even though she was a bit grumpy at times, she even got a sausage for breakfast and a biscuit from the bar area.
We’ll definitely return for another weekend away hopefully when the sun is shining and we can make use of the lovely outside area and gardens.
Thanks again all staff at the Huntsman
I had the stilton mushrooms and then duck, both gorgeous. My friend opted for the lamb which she really enjoyed the week before, however on this occasion it was quite fatty. Apparently they have recently changed supplier.
Thank you
We booked an overnight stay on Saturday and met family for the first time since the COVID-19 travel restrictions were imposed. The Huntsman is arranged according to Government advice with safe distancing and hygiene of paramount importance. All staff were friendly and attentive and went out of their way to ensure our visit, with elderly family members venturing out for the first time, was thoroughly enjoyable. A great evening meal, a few drinks and then breakfast brought to your room the next morning, all in a stunning location.
Well played all, we will definitely be back soon.
We ate at the restaurant in the evening...the tables were much too close together. The food was good but a couple behind us in the restaurant was coughing through the entire meal and staff allowed them to stay in the restaurant - again NOT covid secure. We wanted to move but there were no free tables, we should have left the restaurant but we thought the coughing might stop and when you realise it's not going to, it is too late. I would definitely not visit again nor recommend it. If you want to be exposed to covid, visit the huntsman inn!!
