The Huntsman Inn is frequently lauded for its impeccable cleanliness and cozy, comfortable rooms that feature charming details and stunning views. Guests appreciate the relaxed atmosphere, often accentuated by a real fire, and the hotel's location near a picturesque village with scenic surroundings. Many visitors commend the friendly staff and make plans to return, drawn by amenities that include exceptional food and convenient parking. While the 'Wine, Dine & Duvet' package is popular for its value, some guests feel the food prices can be high. Service delays have been noted by a few, but overall, the hospitable staff contribute to the Inn's warm appeal.

We had an overnight stay on one of the hotel's "Dine and Duvet" deals to get way from the boredom of coronavirus restrictions.
We chose one of the cheapest "comfy" double rooms and this was perfectly adequate, being furnished with a king-size bed, two proper bedside tables with drawers and cupboards, wardrobe, a desk with drawers, a chair, stool and a stand for a suitcase. The bathroom was equipped with temperature-controlled, over the bath shower. This was very powerful and invigorating but, not being walk-in, might not suit people with mobility problems.
The room was at the back of the hotel, away from the main road. with beautiful views over the moors towards Emley Moor.
For dinner we had the following: button mushrooms in stilton sauce, and smoked salmon with a Bloody Mary dressing for starters. Lamb rump and duck breast for main courses. Apple and cinnamon compote and cheeseboard for desserts.
All the food was of the highest quality and the portions were generous.
For breakfast the next day we had cereals, juice, toast, croissants, tea, coffee, full English breakfast and Eggs Benedict.
Again the food was of very high quality and the service provided by the staff was friendly and efficient. Nothing was too much trouble.

Just spent 2 nights at this gorgeous hotel with our dog, we stayed in one of the dog friendly rooms which was on the ground floor so easy to pop outside when needed.
Unfortunately the weather was terrible but it definitely didn’t spoil our stay at this cosy hotel. We stayed on a dine and duvet deal so that included £45 towards your evening meal and £18 towards a bottle of wine each night.
The breakfast was gorgeous, we had a full English and eggs benedict also toast cereals ,fruits, juices, tea, coffee and pastry’s all available to set you up for the day. We had a couple of good walks round the local reservoirs despite the weather.
The evening meals were delicious also, very high standards and perfect service, nothing is too much trouble for the staff, happy to chat with you and fuss our dog Winnie even though she was a bit grumpy at times, she even got a sausage for breakfast and a biscuit from the bar area.
We’ll definitely return for another weekend away hopefully when the sun is shining and we can make use of the lovely outside area and gardens.
Thanks again all staff at the Huntsman

I do have to say that you are best served at this location if you drive/have a car; nevertheless the local taxi firm is very reliable and inexpensive; I was with friends who had all booked earlier than me and got into a place nearer Holmfirth which was fully booked up because of a Picturedrome event. So I was slightly isolated and taxi reliant as I don't drive, but if you do this is most definitely a lovely place. Also sadly I didn't experience the bar / restaurant as I had to meet up elsewhere (very beer-laden Six Nations rugby weekend); I'm sure if we had all stayed at the Huntsman we would have had a ball, as it's all here on-site oop in them there Pennines with extensive views into Red Rose Country. But I did have a meal sent up later as room service which was a seafood and chorizo risotto of exceptional quality. And the best New Zealand Sauvignon I think I have ever sampled.

Lovely welcome on arrival by reception, Covid19 precautions and masks were worn, giving you reassurance that all precautions were been taken. Staff were great, friendly and nothing too much trouble. Views across the moor were lovely, despite been on main road was fairly quiet. Holmfirth about 2 miles away. Room well proportioned and comfortable very clean with lovely Queen truss across, unfortunately they had no air conditioning working as had fire in Air Conditioning Room we had a room with a Porthole window which did not open but room was not too hot. Due to Virus breakfast was served in room, but good choice of yoghurts, fruit juice , bacon or sausage baps with Hash browns as well as toast was on offer. Had an evening meal each night food was great, well priced and good choice, nice selection of wines and beers. Was busy each night, so booking probably recommended. Had Sunday lunch of Roast Pork, plenty of meat and good choice of vegetables it was delicious. Staff were very stringent with the cleaning of tables and bringing of food. If you are looking for a peaceful break well worth a look. Already planning next visit.

My husband and I have just stayed at this beautiful hotel and it was faultless. We had such a fabulous time and we will definitely be back. Our room was lovely and very spacious with high ceilings and beams, bedding, mattress and pillows were amazingly comfortable, it was spotlessly clean, the view from the quirky round window was stunning and the toiletries and complimentary drinks, water, biscuits etc were of the highest quality and plentiful. The room even has air conditioning, which is a bonus. We also had our evening meal here last night and the whole ambience of the restaurant was warm, welcoming and very special. We both had the Sunday dinner and it was devine. Very tasty and proper home cooked. The wine was gorgeous and proper quality. The waiters were so pleasant, professional and efficient. One of them even called me Madame and it made you feel so special. This waiter was very highly organised and professional both at dinner and breakfast in the morning. I think he was Senior. I had the best nights sleep I have had in years! Breakfast was perfect, plentiful and again good quality, wholesome food. We could not have asked for anything more. The whole stay has been totally fabulous from start to finish and the hotel is amazing value, especially when it is located in such a stunning area, with exceptional views of the countryside and lovely walks. We cannot wait to stay again. It has been absolutely perfect from start to finish. Thank you to all the staff at The Huntsman for making our stay so special.

My first meal out and felt a bit apprehensive. We registered as we entered, we were seated a good distance away from the surrounding tables. Cutlery was brought on a plate so that you could lift it off yourself. Staff wore visors. I felt very safe.
I had the stilton mushrooms and then duck, both gorgeous. My friend opted for the lamb which she really enjoyed the week before, however on this occasion it was quite fatty. Apparently they have recently changed supplier.
Thank you

A big thank you to the whole team at The Huntsman, we had a fantastic weekend.
We booked an overnight stay on Saturday and met family for the first time since the COVID-19 travel restrictions were imposed. The Huntsman is arranged according to Government advice with safe distancing and hygiene of paramount importance. All staff were friendly and attentive and went out of their way to ensure our visit, with elderly family members venturing out for the first time, was thoroughly enjoyable. A great evening meal, a few drinks and then breakfast brought to your room the next morning, all in a stunning location.
Well played all, we will definitely be back soon.

Thank you to the staff or The Huntsman. I have been wary of going out following the lifting of restrictions, however, I needn’t have worried. The Huntsman have rigorously implemented all Covid guidelines whilst maintaining a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Separate entrance and exit, track and trace implemented, hand sanitiser available and guidance re table service and toilet facilities clearly explained. As always the food and service were excellent. The staff were friendly and attentive whilst maintaining social distancing at all times. I felt safe and can highly recommend a visit in these worrying times.

The hotel was set at the side of a main road over looking fields in both directions, our room was facing the main road but we did not suffer from any traffic noise. The steps the hotel went to for the Covid rules were the best of all the hotel we stayed in during the week. We had both evening meals and breakfast, there was a wide verity of choice and the meals were cooked to a high standard. All the staff members we dealt with from check in to check out were excellent.

The check in process was OK. The room clearly wasn't cleaned properly; the bed side tables were really dusty, the bathroom floor was dirty there were finger prints all over the TV, the table below the TV had horrible stains on it and so did the curtains. Also information about the hotel covid policies was sent before the booking which said "if your reservation is for a multiplenumber of nights, then we will only service the bedroom after the 4thnight, as too limit access to the bedroom, we can of course provide additional tea and coffee facilities, and give you a change of towels if required" we stayed 2 nights and got back to the room to find someone had been in, made the bed, opened the windows and replenished the tea and coffee. No cleaning had been done. Obviously this is not what was expected given the email before our stay and our belongings had been touched unnecessarily by the cleaner. Access was therefore not limited to the room. At breakfast the waitress kept leaning over us and not keeping her distance at all.
We ate at the restaurant in the evening...the tables were much too close together. The food was good but a couple behind us in the restaurant was coughing through the entire meal and staff allowed them to stay in the restaurant - again NOT covid secure. We wanted to move but there were no free tables, we should have left the restaurant but we thought the coughing might stop and when you realise it's not going to, it is too late. I would definitely not visit again nor recommend it. If you want to be exposed to covid, visit the huntsman inn!!
