The Moorings Guesthouse is widely celebrated for its exceptional cleanliness and stylish atmosphere, complete with hospitable touches such as complimentary whiskey. Guests have called out the inviting service and convenient amenities that enhance the coziness of their stay.
Nestled in a picturesque location with scenic harbour views, the hotel offers well-appointed rooms that many find comfortable, although there was an isolated mention of a radiator issue. While some travelers feel the guesthouse provides good value, others have had differing opinions regarding accessibility and past experiences.

Detailed Reviews
Mallaig has a working harbour, boats come and go all day and there are small boats and yachts moored. At night the lights are magical and if it’s a clear day the view over to Skye, Eigg and Rum are superb. The Moorings overlooks all this.
The Moorings itself is welcoming, the public areas, including a guest lounge which overlooks the harbour, tastefully decorated. We had a spacious, beautifully decorated room at the front of the house, the hospitality tray, which included a small decanter of whisky, was well stocked. Each room is individually decorated with a Scottish theme, but not overwhelmingly so. Ours was Highland cattle, our daughter’s was a thistle theme. The bathroom is large enough not feel cramped and has good supplies, with a powerful shower.
Breakfasts are not the traditional fry-ups, and none the worse for that, and show a bit of ingenuity. Wi-Fi was very good and a special shout out to Heather for tumble drying our washing.
We really liked the Moorings and would be happy to stay here again.

Went up to Mallaig for an overnight stay so we could travel on the Jacobite Railway journey the Mooring was absolutely spotless the room was perfect especially the wee dram o whiskey in the room these small touches highlights the care taken to make you feel welcome. The proprietors could not have been more welcoming and I wish them every success. I liked everything about the Moorings what I didn't like the second day it was raining but that cant be helped.

We stayed 2 nights at The Moorings and wished it could have been longer! Heather and Donald could not do enough for us to make our stay in Mallaig fantastic! The hygiene steps in place made us feel very safe! The house itself is just our cup of tea, recently re-furbished, classy and to a very high standard. The room was spotless with beautiful white linen and towels, additional.comfort features such as hot water bottle, bottled water and whisky in a neat little decanter and nip glasses. The complementary toiletries are from Tub and smell amazing! Plenty space in the front facing double room with a fantastic view! Breakfast itself could not have been easier and the fruit platter I received was a work of art! Picture to come. Cannot recommend highly enough this experience, certainly 5 star service and facilities. Thankyou Heather and Donald and we will bring our family back!

The Moorings is a homely guest house very handy for using if going or returning from Skye. Helen who owns The Moorings is welcoming and very amenable, the room we had overlooked the harbour and suited our needs, it was clean and had a very nice shower. Breakfast is continental and you can have either a meat/cheese platter or a fruit/yogurt/nut platter. There is a breakfast bar to help yourself to pastries/fruit juice/milk/yogurt to help with covid you are asked to clean your hands before touching any of these items. Toast, tea/coffee is served at the table. There is a guest lounge at the front and a small area outside for sitting, we ate our takeaway fish and chips there. This is a good value B&B for exploring the area or if you are travelling through.

Very welcoming, comfortable guesthouse in Mallaig with a grand view of the harbour. Heather and Donald are kind and caring hosts. The room was very comfortable with black out curtains and a very comfortable bed ensuring a good night's sleep. Everything was spotlessly clean. The healthy breakfasts were a good start to the day and sitting in the sun lounge with a dram watching the boats was a good end to it. Mallaig is a handy location for exploring Moidart and Ardnamurchan with good services to hand, the best fish and chips in Britain, and plenty to see and do.

A lovely warm and friendly welcome awaits you at The Moorings as the landlady, Heather, goes out of her way to ensure you feel relaxed and 'at home'.
Barely a five minute stroll from the railway station and all the village centre shops and eatieries, The Moorings is perfectly situated. Our room overlooked the harbour so there's always something to look at as the boats come and go constantly.
A choice of continental style breakfast platters sets you up for the days sightseeing locally or a boat trip over to Skye, and returning in the evening the en-suite rooms are warm, comfortable, and spotlessly clean.
Only too pleased to recommend The Moorings, it's a terrific Guesthouse.

The Moorings is probably one of our favourite B&Bs in Scotland. The hospitality, cleanliness and professionalism are second to none and in these strange days of lockdown easing the standards have not dropped. We felt perfectly safe throughout our stay, the staff wear PPE, there is sanitiser available as soon as you walk in the door and social distancing is practiced.
Strange times indeed but we'll be back when the world has returned to normal.

We found this small guesthouse whilst browsing places to stay in Mallaig and booked it direct with the owners. From that first phone-call, I felt sure that we would have a very relaxing visit. Owners Heather and Donald do everything they possibly can to ensure your comfort, safety and that you have the best time.
Breakfast menus are put in your bedroom and you are asked to make your choice the evening before; continental platter of cold meats and cheeses or fresh fruit. The other things on display in the breakfast room are plentiful, from cereals, fresh and dried fruit, fruit juices, milk, yoghurt and pastries - this along with the platters are both delicious and very well presented.
We really liked the decor at The Moorings, everything was sparking clean and decorated to a high standard. Comfortable beds with lovely fresh cotton bedding, shower that actually worked well and all with those little Scottish touches in the soft furnishings. Beautiful.
Another thing we really enjoyed here was the lounge/conservatory at the front of the building, very welcome at the end of a days sightseeing and with beautiful views of the ever-changing harbour, watching the boats come and go with a cup of tea or coffee.
Would thoroughly recommend this little gem.

In 2019 I organised a group of five couples to take The Jacobite train to Mallaig, and then to take a Calmac cruise to the Small Isles. I looked at hotels in the area, but really wasn’t getting the right vibes, so I searched B&B’s and The Moorings jumped out of the page. We booked five rooms for two nights in May 2020, and then Covid arrived. Unable to travel, we postponed one year, and received a very understanding response from Heather, the owner. Regrettably, this year, only two of the five couples were fit to travel, and again Heather was very understanding with regard to the reduction in bookings. Finally the last two couples made it at the beginning of this week, and we were SO PLEASED we did! The Moorings occupies a wonderful position right by the harbour, and a mere three minutes from the shops, perhaps four minutes from the station, and five minutes from the Calmac ferry. It is a pretty dormer windowed house, and before you even enter the front door, you can tell it is ‘quality”. Inside the impressions only get better, this is the nicest, best maintained B&B we’ve visited in the UK. Our bedroom was lovely with a great view of the harbour and an immaculate en-suite. The bed was also very comfortable, and we slept like logs both nights. Breakfast was continental style, and not only plenty of it, but delicious and beautifully presented. There was a complimentary flask of whisky in the bedroom which made for a very enjoyable ‘wee clochan dichter’ in the resident’s lounge before bed whilst watching the sun set over the harbour. We were made to feel very welcome and valued by Heather, and we will certainly return next time we visit Mallaig. Covid restrictions were also well addressed with an excellent touchless antibacterial dispenser in the hall, track and trace with ‘Checkin Scotland’, and good spacing at breakfast time. Highly recommended.

Seriously, the best place we’ve stayed in the UK, and we’ve stayed in a lot of places!
My boyfriend and I were on route to cycle the outer Hebrides. We arrived in Mallaig and unfortunately missed our ferry due to cancellation. We had a hotel booked on Skye, of course this was paid for and we lost our money. Despite this and our having to find a second stay we were not at all upset as soon as we found The Moorings.
The home is absolutely beautiful and so well decorated/styled. Everything looked brand new or newly renovated. The host was absolutely lovely and I could tell as soon as I met her that she was a warm person. She truly appreciates what it takes to deliver a sterling service.
The room itself was beautiful, the bed was so comfy and the shower was good, too. The bathroom was equipped with a towel rail and local, top quality soaps/shower gels etc.
The room is kitted out with tea making facilities, water, delicious biscuits and even a little whiskey which was a lovely, and appreciated, touch.
Breakfast was a plentiful continental. If ever I am in Mallaig again I would stay here.
Our bikes were left outside, locked up and we felt they were very safe.
Truly, you will not find a better place to stay.
