If there were an award for creative repurposing of existing historic buildings, then Ripley Creek Inn would be the hands-down winner. They have taken mining-era buildings and created a comfortable, modern interior that makes for a enjoyable stay. The Crow's Nest building, one of several,...More

I think Peter M has unrealistic expectations. I've stayed at the Ripley Creek Inn on five separate occasions (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015) and each occasion was a wonderful experience. The town of Stewart is a small town providing a perfect getaway for visitors who wish to escape from the hurried and stressful existence of a large city. Not having cellphone access, only limited television and internet makes this a haven from the invasive intrusions of so-called modern life. If it rains, a guest can always go for a scenic drive, use an umbrella to go for a walk and failing that, what is wrong with taking the time to read a book? As for the bird attack, that is a spiteful and irrelevant comment, people with enough sense know they should not approach animals and birds they are not familiar with. A "miniature Jurassic Park velociraptor" is just silly. I would suggest Peter M stays away from charming out of the way places and visit cosmopolitan cities with chain hotels in the future which would be a lot more suited to his expectations.
