The receptionist / manager was very friendly, but that is where it ends. First red flag was when asked to pay before even seeing the room, next red flag was tip soliciting while paying, I was duped here, I thought the friendly and accommodating manner in which I was treated during many phone calls I was expecting an exceptional visit, wrong! I would like my tip refunded. Upon viewing the room and its amenities, had there not been a very popular music fest happening, I would have asked for a refund and moved on. The room was small, barely enough room for a very comfortable double bed, a quarter circle attached to the wall for a desk, a kitchen chair, night tables with lamps,a small TV and a small luggage table and there is no window or door with outside ventilation. There was no pen or writing paper, no refrigerator or microwave, a small coffee maker and instant coffee and tea,two cardboard cups and two plastic glasses, no menus of places to eat, no telephone. On the second day there was no cardboard cups for our coffee and we had to reuse our plastic glasses. There is a small clothes closet with an ironing board which would have to be set up in the bathroom or foyer. The bathroom was very nice, jet tub, wheelchair accessible shower, pedestal sink and toilet, which would serve as a second seat. Aside from a silver dollar size of soap and a small bottle of shampoo there were no other standard bathroom amenities normally found in hotels, such as body wash, shower cap, one facecloth for two people.. There was one bath mat and sufficient towels. Lighting over the sink was barely adequate. In the bedroom there is a noisy window type a/c and ceiling fan. The French doors opened to a grungy alley way which led to the parking lot, which had no handicapped designated parking. Management left it incumbent upon the guests to lock the main entrance if leaving and she was not there. We ( a party of 11 attending a wedding) were not permitted guests in our room unless a guest of the hotel. There was no restaurant, which we were aware, and no breakfast. We wanted to gather in the restaurant area for family get together but we were not permitted alcohol, no exceptions. We are all over 75 so just how boisterous, noisy and late would we be. The hotel does have a nice sized swimming pool, a hot tub, ( first check of tub was cloudy water but clear following day), saunas and gym. Grounds are well kept. The room was clean. In my sixty years of travelling in Canada, the USA, Europe, the Caribbean, this has been my worst and most disappointing hotel experience ever. The Castle has great potential but needs major overall with innovative and flexible management. I was grossly overcharged for value received. A full refund is in order.…
