This is a wonderful hostel, the rooms, bathroom and kitchen are all very spacious and wonderfully clean. The kitchen is very well equipped and the communal areas were very inviting. They have a cosy fireplace which keeps the whole hostel warm and cosy. Very good value for money and very close to the springs.

A first class Backpackers. The facilities were sparkling clean and very well organised. The owners were very helpful in general and went beyond the call of duty and assisted me with scanning a signed document at no charge. This is suitable for all ages with three and 4 bed bunk rooms plus double rooms and one or two budget motel...

This place is perfectly located near the pools. Great if you haven't got a car, you can just wander into the little village or to the pools. Reasonable value too. When I go back to Hanmer I will be happy to stay there again :)

My wife and I plus 10 year old grandson stayed one night. Kakapo was better than many places we had in Europe last year. Family unit was excellent. Place was so clean and tidy. Lounge had games available for kids plus a nice log fire on a chilly night.

A well managed hostel that will appeal for all ages of budget concious traveller. The kitchen / dining room is well equipped and there is a book swap facility. It is an easy walk to the pools but if you are driving make sure you book off-street car parking ahead, although it is free it is limited. Having said that...

We booked this accommodation through booking.com and did not realise that it was a YHA until we got there. Our first thought before entering our room was, you get what you pay and being a YHA, it might not be very clean. We paid $95 NZ for the two of us in an ensuite room. On entering, we were greeted...

Everything was a bit topsy turvy due to a forest fire, with volunteers helping out from as far away as Christchurch. Some of the volunteers stayed at the hostel, so 5 people to a 3 bedroom & lots of people coming & going all hours couldn't be helped & must have been exceptional. Hostel lovely & clean but in 2...

We only stayed here for one night as part of a two week tour of the South Island. Our one regret is not staying here longer! In fact we investigated cancelling further plans to extend our stay! Clean, homely, well organised, comfortable rooms and beds. Probably the best hostel I have ever stayed in! If we are ever in the...
