We stayed 2 nights at the picturesque Last Straw Cottage and found it to be practically perfect in every way. The hosts have thought of everything. Breakfast provisions are included, there are 3 stunning bedrooms upstairs, everything you'd need in the kitchen, a laundry, and stunning surrounds in a peaceful little corner of NZ. Thank you Lynne for having us, we loved the open fire (even though it was October we needed it!) and all the added touches were appreciated (fresh muffins, bathrobes, bottle of wine, chocolates, lovely toiletries etc). We recommend the Last Straw unreservedly, we loved it!
We stayed at the Last Straw Cottage for 4 nights in December 2018 and I can't describe how special this place was. It was our favourite accommodation on our trip and about half the price of the other luxury beach house we stayed in. As they say, it's all in the detail and everything has been thought of with loving care here. From the fresh produce to the fireplace, games and stunning garden full of birds. We have very high standards when it comes to accommodation and this place was so comfortable, welcoming and homely. The pictures don't do it justice. You will love it!
I’m hesitant to write a review for the Last Straw Cottage. Sometimes the finest things are best kept secret. But, as a compliment to the owners I will say that this property was by far our favorite stop on our vacation/work trip to New Zealand. This is a Peaceful, remote, clean and comfortable accommodation and the owners do a fantastic job making the place feel like a home away from home. The refrigerator had ample supplies upon arrival as well as fresh bread and muffins on the counter. There was a beautiful fireplace and the property allows you to either explore or just sit back and take in the view of the countryside. Grocery stores were a short drive away as well as some very nice local restaurants. During the day there are national parks in any direction to explore. Our whole family quickly decided this was by far the nicest and most memorable place we stayed during our trip to New Zealand and we would recommend it highly. …
What a gem! An incredibly built venue with quirky yet very stylish decor. The cottage has been very tastefully decorated and you spend hours looking at the thoughtfully chosen items within. It was sooooooo private and allowed for a very intimate stay. Yet could also suit families. The cottage is situated away from the main house and you feel like you are all alone in heaven. The scenic surrounding farmland allows for just sitting and enjoying or getting out on foot or on the bike. The hosts were lovely warm and welcoming but respected our privacy. There were thoughtful touches from the baked goods on arrival, the St Claire’s wine, the box of chocolates, fresh bread and farm eggs which added to the quality of the visit. Don’t forget the goods in the fridge and pantry. There are shops and restaurants only 5 minutes away, but why would you want to leave the cottage! Definite value for money and we can’t wait to go back again. …
