We arrived at around 9:30pm and the front desk was closed. After a call the owner came over immediately. The apartment is large, with small kitchen and all utensils. Bedroom and bed are cozy. The shower is small and the curtain couldn't cover it all, so there was unpleasant water spill. Also the water temperature was unstable, jumping between too hot and too cold. More trouble is the room door: it uses old-fashioned key and it's hard to lock and unlock.

Breakfast for 8 Euro was okay with eggs, pastry and coffee, though we expected more hot items. It's within 15 minutes driving distance from Hallstatt, and the drive itself was scenic.

Stayed in Seerose in Feb '12 with relatives. The location is as best as it can be! It's about 3 1/2 hrs by car from Vienna and maybe an hour form the "Mozart-town" - Salzburg.
There is not much to see in Obertraun but it's less crowdy than the world-famous Hallstatt which is practically the same town close-by on the lake. And the views are even better than in travel-guides! Must be really beautiful in summer. Also the Alpine skiing is right next to town. When we took a lift to the top of Dachstein plateau - 3000 meters - it was so magnificent I got speechless. The longest trail down was about 6 miles!
The hotel apts are quite simple - do not expect luxury items, but they had all the necessary stuff with the full kitchen and were spacious and very clean. Good for a family with kids. The most pleasant were the owners: Mark and his wife. We got unlucky with the broken heat one night and they went extra mile to accomodate us in comfort. I'm glad my money went into hard-working family business instead of some mass-produced faceless hotel chain.

My wife & I, independent travelers in our 60's, spent one
night at the Seerose in August 2010 as part of an
automobile road trip throughout Germany & Austria.
We stayed in room #6 that consisted of a large
bedroom, a sitting room with a couch, dining table &
chairs, and small refrigerator, a bathroom with
toilet, sink, & shower, and a balcony with stunning
views of the lake. The room also had
coffee/tea making facilities and a strong wifi (free)
signal. We drove to Hallstatt for dinner
at one of the places that Mark, the owner, had
recommended (Gasthof Zauner's). No problem sleeping:
it was a very quiet location. The breakfast,
included in the price, was great: cereal, juice, fruit,
yoghurt, bread/rolls, cheese, meat, coffee, eggs if you wanted
them. We also enjoyed the conversation with Mark/Jane
about their decision to move from England to Austria
to run a hotel and how that has affected their and their
kids lives.

1. Room was in poor condition and generally not maintained well. The carpet is old and has large iron burn marks visible. Room didn't even have a glass we that could drink from.

2. The whole room suffered an electrical power failure at around 22:00hrs leaving us using our phone torch to see things until we went to sleep.
( tip to owner ) the filthy and very noisy extractor fan in the bathroom is probably the cause.

3. There are NO staff on duty at night so we couldn't get somebody to rectify the electrical power outage. When I complained in the morning the lady pointed at a phone number on the wall which I could have called.. I replied I would have if I'd have had a signal .
Owners should make it very clear in communication with clients that no one is physically on duty at night at the hotel.
( not sure if that is a breach of law in Austria for this size of hotel ? )

4. Building is 4 stories high but has no lift so avoid if you have heavy bags

5. Our stay was 1 night and in low season so room rate is probly half of high season charges. I would be doubly disappointed if I'd paid high season prices

6. My opinion: Location good 👍 but unfortunately accommodation not so good 😕

The answer is yes. Our family of five was deposited from our train in the wonderful alpine village of Obertraun, easy walking distance to the Seerose. The magnificence of the surroundings is only surpassed by the friendliness of the hosts, Mark and Jane, along with their charming family. The apartments are well furnished, with views towards the mountains or the lake, and all the activities of the Hallstaettersee are within a stones throw. Grab a bicycle and feel the wind in your hair, perhaps for the first time in years! There is almost no motor traffic, and you will feel like singing "The Hills are Alive". Attractions such as the Dachstein Ice Caves and Hallstatt are easily reached via bus, boat, walking or train. Even our grumpy 11 year old son, tired of world travelling, took to the place like a fish to water. We wouldn't see him for hours as he explored the area with his new friends. Mark and Jane will ensure your stay is a joy, make sure you ask for a sample of "Stroh's", the delicious Austrian elixir available in the bar. We are all looking forward to our next visit.

Excellent skiing holiday in comfortable and well furnished apartments. We liked the warm and friendly welcome from the hosts, and have had a fantastic skiing holiday. Not having to prepare breakfast for ourselves was a big plus, given the usual rush to make it to ski school on time ! The ski bus stops outside the hotel, so its an effortless task to arrive at the slopes.
Would definitely return, and think it would make for a fantastic summer holiday as well- love the idea of going boating on the lake!

My wife and I and two sons stayed for 5 nightsin February. We were very happy with the comfortable accomodations and welcoming atmosphere. The owners, Mark and Jane, are extremely helpful. We skied at Dachstein and Krippenstein. You can drive over to Dachstein or take the ski bus which stops right next to the hotel and drops you at the ski resort in 40 minutes. Krippenstein is just minutes by car and offers fantastic scenery and more advanced skiiing. The town is very peaceful and we enjoyed walks along the lakefront, sledding and meeting the locals. There is a nice pizza restuarant and bowling alley adjacent to the hotel. A beautiful area and one that allows you to enjoy skiing and get away from the overly commercial atmosphere of many ski areas.

The nicest thing about this hotel is that it’s in Obertraun. From this point you can access miles of trails, enjoy a beautiful lake and visit the much more tourist impacted area of Hallstatt at your leisure on foot or by bike.
The rooms are modest but have everything you need for a comfortable stay. The price is fair but watch out for the “cleaning fee”. They never came in to clean our room (we stayed 2 nights) yet collected an additional 18 Euro on top of the 10 Euro shown on the booking information for the cleaning fee.
The town itself has only one grocery store, a bakery, train station and several places to dine. We found the prices in Obertraun to be higher than the resort areas of Slovenia, but there’s not much you can do about that, except be forewarned. This is a beautiful setting and worth a visit.

We had originally wanted to stay in Hallstatt but the only places we could find were well out of our price range and so we chose Obertraun. It was a sensible move because both places are lovely yet very different and it was a joy to explore and travel between the two by boat or by bus. The Seerose is in an ideal location only a minute's walk from the lake. The station is a three or four minute walk away and the main town centre (one supermarket and a bakery) is a ten minute walk away. The owners of the Seerose were helpful and friendly and the rooms were very pleasant. Internet was good. It was midwinter and many places were shut but next door there is a fantastic restaurant with a huge choice of appetising meals. The only thing lacking was coffee facilities which would have been helpful since most of the local cafes and bars were shut or closed early in mid winter.

Driving to Halstatt, living on the other side of the lake, very quiet. Hotel room is relatively simple, the space is not great, because there is no elevator, so the big baggage is not very convenient, but fortunately we drove over, luggage on the car. The hotel next door has a pizza shop is not rough, which actually also hidden a small family bowling, you can eat pizza play
